Chapter Sixteen
I waited for the impact. Waited for a bright light to appear.
But it never came.
I reopened my eyes to see familar golden lights circling me. Then the bright lights of the beaming pad came into focus. I looked around and saw both Jim and Pike were already being ushered off the pad. I looked to Spock who appeared just as surprised as I was. A stupid grin spread across my face and even the corner of Spock's mouth turned up just a little.
I could have almost laughed.
I had been prepared to die just seconds ago. Now I was standing safely with my brother and favortie commander aboard the Enterprise.
Miracles.
I only realized I was still holding Spock's hand when we stepped off the beaming platform. I let go to give Jim a hug as several nurses swarmed around Pike.
Checkov reported that the Enterpise had just taken off into warp. The ship and crew had shown up just in time to beam the four of us aboard at the very last second. The futuristic ship Spock and I had just been aboard mere minutes ago was now consuming the Narada in a massive black hole.
The nurses soon set Pike into a wheelchair and were quickly checking his vitals before ushering him out of the room.
"I'm going to go help Pike," I told Jim and Spock before following the nurses. Spock and Jim hustled to the bridge instead where they ensured the destruction of the Narada and Nero.
Upon arrival to the medical wing, we quickly hooked Pike up to an IV and set to scanning his internal organs for possible damage. Aside from some bruising, dehydration, and trauma, he was fine. He still seemed a bit dazed as the medical professionals swarmed around him like so many bees.
His spirits lifted as I told him all about how Spock, Jim, and the whole crew had come together to defeat Nero.
I finished bandaging a deep cut on Pike's finger just as began to drift off into sleep. I gave his hand a quick pat before leaving to check on Jim who was still ecstatic after the victory. He had no idea about the sacrifice Spock and I had been prepared to make but I think he was better off not knowing.
I was just thankful that Jim and Pike and even Spock were all safe.
We soon returned to the Earth docking station. Seeing the familiar green and blue planet outside the window put me at ease.
We had orders to return back to the StarFleet academy. The welcome back was incredible as the whole crew was celebrsted like heros. And thankfully, Jim's trial had been determined null as Spock lifted the charges.
Speaking of Spock, I ended up running into him in the shuttle bay of the Enterprise right before returning to the Earth's surface.
I noticed him speaking to what looked to be a Vulcan elder near a shuttle but upon closer inspection, the Vulcan elder bore a remarkable resemblance to Spock. They even had the same eyes. I would have thought the Vulcan to be his father if it weren't for the fact that I'd already seen his father while on the Enterprise.
I approached them curiously. "Hey Spock?" I greeted, unsure of what to say to his elder doppelganger.
Spock turned, his eyes meeting mine. "Greetings," Spock said politely as he turned to face me.
The elderly Vulcan fixed me with a warm gaze. He look at me with astute recognition and there was even a small twinkle in his eyes. As if he were greeting an old friend he hadn't seen in a while and not a stranger.
"Hello Ferris, it is good to see you again," the older Vulcan said. His voice was gravely and coarse but not dissimilar to Spock's montone.
My brows furrowed for a second, slightly confused. I tilted my head curiously and hesitated for just a second.
"I'm sorry, but do I know you?" I asked curiously.
"I am Spock Prime," He claimed, as if it was obvious.
"Are you like cousins or something?" I asked, growing more puzzled by the second.
"No, I am Spock," He reiterated politely.
I looked to the Spock I knew whose expression betrayed nothing.
"But he is Spock," I said with an obvious tone gesturing towards Spock.
"This may be difficult to comprehend but 25 years ago I was given the task of stopping a supernova with a substance called 'Red Matter," Spock Prime began, "However, I was too late and the planet Romulus was destroyed. Nero blamed me for the destruction of his planet and in an attempt to escape, I created a black hole that consumed his ship but my own vessel was also caught by the gravitational pull of the black hole. Twenty-five years passed and both Nero and I reappeared. He caught my vessel and marooned me to Delta Vega, where I met your brother."
Well, that wasn't hopelessly confusing at all.
I could only nod in dull recognition as I tried to process the new information.
So that was what Jim had been hiding.
Even if it helped tie up loose ends and explained why Jim had purposefully provoked Spock, I still found it mind boggling that there were two Spocks.
"And this isn't a prank?" I asked, my eyes narrowing.
Young Spock shook his head. "Vulcan's do not partake in human pranks."
I nodded slowly again. "Not to say it isn't confusing, because it is, but I do feel a headache coming on, so thank you for telling me," I said and Spock Prime offered a genial head dip of his head.
"If you are experiencing headaches I would recomend ibuprofen or a venture to the medical wing," younger Spock suggested.
"I am a nurse Spock," I said. "And I dont think all the advil on Earth could help me,"
My communicator suddenly chimed loudly and I checked it to see that Bones was texting up a storm since the nurse shuttles were taking off and I was one of the only one who was missing.
"Oh boy, I have to get going before Bone's eats me," I told them and offered a parting grin to Spock Prime whose brown eyes still looked at me warmly. "It was nice meeting you."
Spock Pov
A childish part of Spock didn't want Ferris to leave. Of all people, he enjoyed her presence. There was something so care free yet kind hearted about her.
He watched her speed walk away to the medical transport before turning back to Spock Prime.
"She was always such a fascinating creature," Spock Prime with a hint of longing in his wordz.
"Agreed," Spock replied.
"We led a grand life together," Spock Prime claimed but then hesitated for just a split second before realizing what he had just said.
Spock rose a brow. "Are you suggesting that Ferris and I are to be- Spock I have said too much," Spock Prime interrupted. "It is your choice to make, not mine."
Spock nodded in thoughtful understanding.
"I do not object to that possible future," Spock announced as Ferris disappeared onto her designated shuttle.
Spock Prime hummed thoughtfully.
"I theorize your future will be eventual Spock," Spock Prime said. "A "And that you won't be alone."
