Chapter One

Ferris's pov ^^

I slowly eased my way through the large crowd of dancing people. The loud music and strobe lights that flashed wildly around me only added to the chaotic atmosphere. A woman nearly crushed my foot with her high heel but I nimbly dodged her mistep and continued through the mass of people.

I felt slightly out of place at the nightclub, Jim had somehow managed to somehow drag me in, claiming that I 'needed to let loose a little'. Needless to say, he said that after taking three shots and a tall shooter.

I found a seat at the bar and quickly ordered a drink. Cranberry vodkas were my go to. I turned in my swivel stool to look for Jim and found him talking to a very pretty brunette girl across the floor. She had strange yet beautiful purple designs on her face that went all the way down to her arms. A Haljor.

I watched with an amused expression as a male Haljor, presumably the female's boyfriend, abruptly interrupted their flirting and shoved Jim away. Jim wasn't phased by the male and walked off. He probably already got the girl's number and considered it a success regardless.

Jim then saunteted away before noticing me at the bar. He made his way towards my perch, looking mildly disappointed.

"Come on Jim, that one was pretty," I teased.

"Yeah, I was really feeling a connection you know?" He slurred and I scoffed. I loved my brother but for him, women were a pass time. "She could have been the one."

"Uh huh, sure," I said, taking a sip of my drink.

Jim then looked at me with narrow blue eyes. "No guys have been giving you trouble have they?" He said with that protective tone I was all too familiar with.

I shook my head. "Nothing I couldn't handle," I replied. I don't think any male, let alone person, other than Jim, knew I existed at this bar.

Jim nodded, deciding my answer was acceptable before getting distracted by a very pretty humam lady with long dark hair that was ordering a large amount of drinks. Jim never passed on such an easy opportunity and asked her name.

She knew his act instantly but played along for her own amusement. I only half listened as I watched the bartender, a Duveth with two extra arms, skillfully pour and measure out every drink. I pondered if whether or not I should ordered another vodka cranberry since I was starting to feel a nice buzz.

Before I could decide, a large man with a bald head and a face reminiscent of a bulldog walked up from behind Jim and placed a meaty hand on his shoulder. There were a few men, all wearing the StarFleet uniforms, standing behind him.

"Oh come on relax cupcake," Jim insisted in slur but the bald man, that I had come to name CupCake, wasn't amused. He said something else that I couldn't quite catch over the loudspeakers. Then, almost without warning, CupCake decided to take a swing at Jim who could barely react before a fist colided with his face.

I was on my feet in an instant, just as CupCake reared back for a second hit.

"Get off of him!" I yelled before launching myself at the bald male. I yanked his arm down so that he couldn't land the second punch. Jim took the opportunity and made a sharp swing at CupCake, knocking his face to the side.

Adrenaline spiked through my veins as the bald male flung me off and onto the ground. A series of surprised exclamations came from the gathering crowd around us. I got back to my feet and made an effort to attack but one of the other men blocked my path.

I promptly stomped on his foot and jabbed him in the throat while CupCake landed a mean punch on my brother's nose.

"Jim!" I yelled, just hardly louder than the surrounding noise. I pushed past the Star Fleet man blocking my way when a loud whistle hit the air.

A man with gray hair and a handsome face stood at the epicenter of the whistle. All eyes focused on him and the room went oddly quiet.

"All of you get out," He commanded with great authority. "Jim and Ferris Kirk you stay."

Jim and I shared a confused expression before complying. Everyone filed out as I reached over the bar counter for some ice and handed it to Jim since he was bruised and had a bloody nose. I had seen worse but that didn't make me feel much better.

Everyone else filed out of the room as I half guided my brother to an open table.. I sat down across from the man who watched us curiously.  He looked at me then at Jim who had little tissues up his nose to stop the bleeding.

"Hello, my name is Captain Pike of Starfleet," He began and I was instantly prepared to disregard him since we had been approached by dozens of Star Fleet representatives in the past. All with the same script and recruitment quota to meet. But a sudden giddy smile broke out upon his features that made me hesitate. "Look at you two, exactly like your Father!"

There was a certain genuineness to his words that kept me listening. I'd never met my father, as you probably assumed. My brows rose in surprise at his exclamation and I gestured for him to continued.

"Something I always admired about your father was that he didn't believe in no win scenarios" He said looking at us.

Jim was first to reply "He sure learned his lesson," He said quickly. My mouth twitch at his bluntness but I knew that deep down Jim just wished that dad had been there with us when we were kids. But that wasn't meant to be.

"Depends on how you define winning. You know that nature, to leap without looking, that was his instinct too. One of Star fleets last I think," He claimed.

"What are you trying to get at sir?" Jim asked quickly but to the point.

"Your two aptitude tests are off the charts. Don't you feel like you were meant for something better than hanging out in nightclubs and bars?" He asked, his blue eyes connecting intently with my pale green.

"What exactly are you promoting here?" I asked curiously.

"Well, I want you two to enroll into Starfleet. You can have your own ship in 4 years," He said. I had no interest in having my own ship but I had always been intrigued by starFleet. After all, it's something both my mother and father had been a part of.

Jim scoffed disbelievingly but said nothing.

"Look, your father was captain of the U.S.S. Bradbury for 14 minutes and he saved 800 lives," Pike said and I felt a twinge in my chest. I had heard that fact since the day of my birth. "I dare you to do better."

I quirked a brow.

A dare?

Jim and I shared a look.

We never passed up on dares.

"Four years? We'll do it in three."
