Chapter Fifteen
Small Time skip ---------------------------------->>>
Spock, Jim, and I walked swiftly down to the transporting room where Scotty awaited. Jim quickly got to talking with Scotty who was obviously surprised that we were deciding to beam on to an enemy ship.
I was busy attaching a blaster to my hip when Spock approached.
"Ms.Kirk, I would like to apologize, again, for my actions on the bridge. It was never my intention to hurt you," Spock said evenly.
I noticed he hadn't bothered to try apologizing for hitting Jim. I didn't expect him to either. Jim had been baiting Spock and went too far. Jim knew this.
I waved it off. "No worries Mr.Spock, it was just an accident," I replied kindly, looking up at him genially.
A flash of relief flitted across his brown eyes. "You are not hurt then?" He asked.
I shook my head. His blow had stunned me a little but hardly hurt. However, I had felt the power behind it. I could only imagine how Jim and felt when Spock had punched him.
"Nope. It's ok Spock. It was an accident and I forgive you," I said simply and Spock nodded once, as if surprised that it had been so easy.
"And, I am also starting to forgive you for deporting my brother to an ice plant but if you ever do something like that again," I began before pointing at him. "I will get you".
I tried to say it seriously but an undertone of humor was unmistakable. He looked puzzled, as if he should take the warning with caution or worry.
I did mean it though. Next person to launch my brother off the Enterprise was going to get sent to the hospital by me.
Jim appeared next to me suddenly.
"Ready to go kids?" He asked even though I was older than him by seven minutes.
"Absolutely," I said confidently and Spock nodded in kind.
"Well, if there is any common sense on that ship I will be beaming you into the cargo bay where there shouldn't be a soul in sight," Scotty explained as we took position on the beaming pad.
Tiny beams of light started to circle us and we soon materialized onto the Narada. But the cargo bay was not empty, in fact, we ended up landing right in the middle of six surprised looking Romulans.
I ducked as one of the Romulans swung a wrench towards my face and then socked the Romulan in the stomach before making a cheap jab to his throat. I finished him off my ramming his head against a nearby metal outpost.
Spock, on the other hand, took down four Romulans by himself with ease while Jim struggled with his one guy who he finally took down after a little struggle. Jim stood back up, out of breath, and Spock just looked at him with the Vulcan equivalent of smug.
"What? Mine had a gun," Jim pointed out and I just rolled my eyes.
"Men," I muttered to myself.
Spock kneeled down to one of the unconscious Romulans and put two fingers on his forehead and his thumb on his cheek. He was performing a Vulcan mind meld. He stayed silent for a few moments as we waited.
Spock abruptly stood up.
"Did you find where the weapon is?" I asked curiously.
"Yes, as well as Captain Pike's location," Spock answered and I felt my heart leap. Pike was close.
Spock began to lead us through the ship quietly and efficiently. We exited the cargo bay and now came across a smaller space craft with a rotating inhibitor and an oval build that would make it ideal for speed.
Spock led us onto the small ship and I quickly realized that all the technology within it was unfamiliar and especially technological. It seemed almost too sophisticated to be from the same time as us.
"This is a far more advanced ship than I had initially anticipated," Spock noted, taking the words right from my mouth.
"Voice recognition confirmed, welcome back Ambassador Spock," A female voice sounded. It was the ship that spoke, recognizing Spock automatically as if he were the owner.
I quirked a brow and shared a puzzled exchange with Spock.
"That's weird," Jim claimed dismissively as if he knew something.
Spock turned to him as he appeared to have an epiphany.
"It seems you have been keeping something from us Captain Kirk," Spock said and I nodded.
"Look you can fly this thing right?" Jim asked, ignoring Spock's question.
"Something tells me I already have," Spock claimed.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"Look, you guys just need to trust me. I have a plan," Jim said forthcomingly, and Spock decided to leave it at that.
I went to the cockpit with Spock attempting to prep the ship. Which proved a little more difficult than normal considering the complexity of the technology.
"Got it," I said with a grin as the small ship hummed to life.
"Hey, I'm going to go get Pike," Jim announced. "Ferris, you stay with Spock."
"What? No. We shouldn't split up," I insisted, grabbing Jim's wrist before he could leave.
He turned and held me gently by the shoulders. "Ferris, it'll be ok. I'll grab Pike, you guys escape, and the Enterprise will beam us back. "
I inhaled deeply. "Be safe," I told him, and he nodded with a grin before letting me go.
Jim turned to Spock. "Take care of her," Jim ordered.
"I will," Spock answered.
"Don't you mean I should be the one taking care of him?" I asked as Jim took off. He didn't say anything but I could hear faint laughter.
"What's your plan?" I asked Spock as I took a seat in the cockpit.
"Once we activate the ship, we will fly down to the drill that has been lowered into the Earth's atmosphere. Then we will shoot it down and disengage it," Spock explained and I nodded.
Spock found the weapon controls and started firing at the massive hangar doors that led out into space and soon they gave way. We immediately zoomed out and down toward the drill.
I hit the switch that would send a torpedo and a grey blur went directly towards the drill and it exploded on contact. The drill shuddered violently as it ripped a part and then collapsed onto the Earth.
Hopefully not causing too much damage below.
"We need to get out of here!" I said and I prepped the ship for warp with the flick of multiple switches. But the Narada had followed us out as we went towards deeper space.
Suddenly we were hailed and Spock put it on screen.
Nero's pissed off face appeared on screen. "Spock! I should have killed you when I had the chance, " Nero yelled.
"Indeed you should. Under authority granted me by the Europa convention I confiscated this illegally obtained ship and order you to surrender your vessel. No terms. No deals," Spock told him coldly.
"You can't cheat me again Spock. I know you better than you know yourself! I'm going to kill you and your precious Ferris?" Nero sneered, his predatory eyes glancing at me. I glared back, wanting dearly to launch him into space with no capsule.
"Last warning. Surrender your ship," Spock inisted.
"Fire!" Nero yelled loudly.
"But sir if we fire we might detonate the red matter!" A crew member explained off screen said.
"I don't care! Fire! I want Spock dead!" Nero screamed and immediately missiles started coming at us.
Flashes of jagged green approached us with haste. We did our best to evade the missiles and at first I thought maybe we could do this as we maintained a steady approach. Due to the small size of the ship, the missiles had difficulty hitting their mark.
We just had to live long enough for the Enterprise to get to us.
Suddenly, a lucky missile grazed the side of the ship and tore a gash in the side. I was knocked to the side, almost falling out of my seat from the impact.
"We're hit!" I exclaimed as Spock held on to the steering.
"The Enterprise has not yet arrived. We must evade and regroup," Spock said, thinking logically.
"No! Nero will just escape again," I replied. "We have to finish it here and now before he kills anyone else."
The only way to stop Nero and his destruction was by destroying him and his ship. That meant we had to ignite the red matter. And the only way to do that was by crashing into the Narada.
Spock's expression turned grim. "Everyone on board will perish. As will we," Spock said. "Are you sure?"
I nodded, a tear sliding down my cheek. I had agreed to do this. I had agreed to avenge my father.
"It's the only way we can ensure he doesn't destroy Earth," I said quickly. My heart pounded and my mind raced.
"But your brother?" Spock asked, while simultausly manuvering the ship to dodge another green missile.
"I'll see Jim again, Spock." I said as an odd sense of calm came over me. "It'll be ok."
Spock nodded once.
"Computer, please set a collision self destruct course."
"Trajectory affirmed."
I looked at Spock who looked back at me.
For the first time, I truly saw Spock. Not just a flicker or flash of him. Everything underneath was brought to the surface. It lasted for only a few seconds but it was all I needed.
"Collision Imminent."
I shut my eyes and grasped his hand.
