"You know, when you told me you wanted to do something as a couple this year, I wasn't expecting our thing to be cheerleading." Sonny mumbled as she and Moon headed into the school after they left the soccer field where they met the PE teacher who gave them their uniforms.
Moon smiled and stopped walking, pulling Sonnys arm so she turn to face her and in a quick instant, Moons hand went to the side of Sonnys face as she pulled her in for a long, sweet kiss. Sonny smiled into the kiss and after a few seconds, Moon slowly pulled away before leaning in for one more quick peck.
"I think cheerleading will be good for us. Plus, you'll look hot in the uniform." Moon said and Sonny immediately felt her cheeks burn as they started walking into the school again.
Sonny felt an arm wrap around her and Moon as a small laugh escaped from a person on the other side of Moon. Sonny turned to see who it was and smiled at Yasmine.
Moon squealed in excitement, hugging her friend and when they pulled away, Yasmine turned to Sonny, raising her eyebrows. Sonny rolled her eyes, a smile creeping on her face as she opened her arms out. "Bring it in, blondie." Yasmine smile wider, pulling Sonny into a tight hug as Moon watched the two with a huge smile at the fact that her best friend and girlfriend are getting along.
The three walked into the main hall of the school and Sonnys eyes landed on Demetri and Hawk who had their arms wrapped each other's shoulders before Counselor Blatt shooed them away. The two pushed each other off but still unintentionally headed in the same direction. Right towards the three girls.
Hawk was glaring at the ground, not noticing the three but Demetri did, his eyes immediately falling on the red and blue uniform in his best friends hands, he let out a loud laugh, making Hawk look up at Sonny who was sending a glare to Demetri.
"Wow! Never in my life would I think Sonny Thompson would join the cheer squad. Do you have the pom poms and everything?" Demetri asked as he walked toward the girls. As soon as he was close enough, Sonny punched his arm before linking it with hers that wasn't holding Moons hand.
"Hey, darling. I gotta get to class." Moon mumbled to Sonny and the girl smiled, quickly pecking Sonnys lips before splitting up; Moon walking with Yasmine to their class side by side while Sonny and Demetri walked to class together, arms linked as always.
Hawk trailed behind them, having the same class as his old friends, his eyes constantly falling on Sonny and Demetri's linked arms and he suddenly missed the feeling of Sonnys arm linked with his. He missed his best friends.
"I can't believe shes making me join the cheer squad." Sonny groaned, dramatically throwing her head on Demetri's shoulder as he used the hand that wasn't linked with her to pat her head. "It's gonna be okay." Demetri said as of he was talking to a baby, making Sonny laugh, lifting her head off his shoulder.
"Do you not want to be in cheerleading? Is that the problem?" Demetri asked and Sonny instantly shook her head. "No. I think... I think a part of me has always wanted to be a cheerleader like in the movies. I just never expected to ever actually be one."
Demetri sighed, turning to Sonny, not noticing the stares Hawk was sending the two. "Well, a lot can change. Think about it, a year ago today, we were just barely getting to know Miguel, you just started talking to Moon and there was another person you'd be linking your arm with on the other side of you."
Hawk eyes fell to the empty spot next to Sonny. His spot. The place where he'd always walk beside her, his arm linked with hers as he played with the bracelet on Sonnys wrist that he could see slightly popping out of her sweater sleeve.
Sonny sighed, resting her head on Demetri's shoulder again as they walked in silence for a few seconds but Sonny quickly grew tired of the quiet and spoke again. "You know, since Yasmine's friends with Moon and sort of me, she'll be sitting with us at lunch. If things really do change so much like you said, maybe you should try to make your move. She's gotten nicer since the... wedgie incident. I think if you tried to make a move, she wouldn't be too awful." Sonny said with a smirk as they turned into the classroom. Demetri let out a loud laugh. "Oh yeah. Amazing joke, Sonny. You know what? Screw being a cheerleader, you should do stand up."
Sonny rolled her eyes, unlinking her and Demetri's arms, turning to walk to her seat and out of the corner of her eye, she could see Hawk behind her. Sonny felt panic fill her, wondering if he had heard their whole conversation.
What she didn't know was that he did. He heard all of it.
...
When class ended, Sonny stared down at her phone as she walked towards the cafeteria in hopes that Brandon would text her about any news on Miguel.
The Thompson sisters have gotten relatively close to Brandon after the big school fight. Sonny having to come in to remove her stitches. He told the girls that his father was one of Miguel's doctors and promised to keep Sonny updated on anything with Miguel.
"You wanna say something, say it to my face!" A voice snapped a few feet away from Sonny, making her look up and stare wide eyed at Sam who was glaring at three girls. After the girls stayed silent. Sam let out a proud huff, going to walk away. "That's what I thought."
Sonny quickly started walking after Sam, the girl jumping at the feeling of someone coming up behind her but instantly calmed when she realized it was Sonny.
"You okay?" Sonny asked, looking at her worriedly. Sam sighed, slowly nodding her head. Sonny looked at her sadly, pulling her into a side hug as they continued to walk. "Just ignore them."
Sam nodded again, looking down the hall. "I need to talk to Mr. Smith but I'll meet you in the cafeteria." Sonny nodded, leaving Sam to go to the cafeteria. Sonny walked into the cafeteria and looked around for Moon, finding her sitting at a table with Yasmine.
She went to walk towards the table as an arm linked with hers. Sonny smiled, knowing it was Demetri. "You ready to talk to Yasmine?"
Demetri took a deep breath to calm himself down nodding his head. "I've been waiting for this moment since we were five years old and she told me to stop being a wimp and go down the slide already."
Sonny chuckled at the memory as they got to the table, Sonny sitting beside Moon and Demetri sitting beside Yasmine. The blonde girl looked at Demetri weirdly before turning to Sonny. "Who's he?"
Sonny smiled, moving her chair in towards the table and taking the chocolate milk from Demetri's tray. "Yasmine, you remember my friend Demetri." Yasmine scrunched her face slightly, turning to the boy beside her. "Vaguely."
Demetri turned around to face Yasmine giving her a big smile. Sonny felt Moon elbow her and she quickly turned to her, watching Moon nudge her head to the other side of the cafeteria. Sonny turned her head and instantly locked eyes with Hawk who was glaring at her, making Sonny suck in a breath of air.
"This will be a fun year." Sonny sarcastically mumbled, leaning towards Moon who let out an awkward chuckle, nodding her head. "Hell yeah it is." Moon whispered back, squeezing Sonny's hand and kissing her temple before the two looked back at Yasmine and Demetri bickering across the table from them.
