☼that's not important☾
Over time, the karate classes started to get better. Johnny and Daniel became more civil and began to let each man have a day to take over classes. After a while, Daniel came up with the idea of him taking the Eagle Fangs for a week while Johnny took the Miyagi-Do kids.
Sonny expected something big from Johnnys part but she didn't know what exactly he had planned. Right now, he had taken the kids to a random building in Reseda and had them walk up into tall flights of stairs.
The teens were getting tired of the walking and room a quick break; Sonny watching Johnny move up the stairs even faster than before while she stayed out of breath.
"Where is he taking us?" Sam asked as she and Sonny leaned back into the wall of the stairs, Sonny resting her head on Sam's shoulder tiredly as she shook her head. "Nowhere good." She breathed out and Demetri nodded, pointing at her. "I heard he drowned a kid in a pool trying to teach him how to kick, and that was before he sicced a rabid dog on Eli and Sonny."
Sonny pushed herself off the wall at the accusation. "Hey, he didnt..." Her words stopped as she remembers when Sensei Lawrence took her and the rest of Cobra Kai to an old junkyard and had them get chased by dogs. Sonny sighed at the memory, turning to Demetri and nodding. "Okay never mind, you're right."
"Let's go Miyagi's! Move your asses!" Johnny screamed from the top of the stairwell, making the Miyagi-Do's groan, pushing themselves off the railing and walls and walking up the stairs.
Sonny who was at the fun of the group, felt a lazy arm fall over her shoulders and suddenly felt a weight overcome her from Demetri leaning against her as they walked, putting almost all of his weight on her. Sonny rolled her eyes at the boy but continued walking, used to it from all the tears of P.E. the two had together.
When they reached the roof, Johnny was waiting for them, stan und a few feet away from the edge of the building with his arms crossed.
"Oh God, I'm tired of being right." Demetri muttered, pushing himself off of Sonny so all of the students could stand in a line across from Johnny.
"Sensei, why are we up here?" Sonny asked, still out of breath from the walk up the stairs. Johnny smiled at his old student, pointing at her. "Because Thompson. When an eagle's hungry, it doesn't hesitate. It'll dive down at a hundred miles to catch it's prey. Doesn't wait around for a fish to jump in it's feet."
"Talons." Demetri corrected, making Johnny turn to him with a confused look, shaking his head. "It's not talent. It's instinct." Johnny snapped at the boy.
Demetri looked at Johnny with a look of bewilderment, shocked the man was so clueless. Sonny snicker at the look on Demetri's face, leaning towards him while turning back to Sensei Lawrence. "Yeah, correcting him never helps." Sonny whispered to Demetri as Johnny continued his speech.
"An eagle knows it has to make the first move. If you want to beat Cobra Kai in the All Valley, you gotta break yourself of this wait-and-see crap."
"And how exactly are we gonna do that?" Demetri asked and Johnny smirked. "You're gonna jump from this roof..." He said, positioning under him before he turned around, pointing to the building across the alleyway. "To that one."
Sonny's eyes went wide as Sam looked at Johnny in shock. "What? Are you crazy?!" She yelled and Demetri let out a string of incoherent words.
"That building is like five Nates away and we're at least 14 Nates high!" Demetri yelled and Nate huffed, turning to look up at Demetri with an annoyed look. "Please don't use me as a system of measurement."
"Quiet!" Johnny yelled, making the teens all jump slightly. Sonny held back a smile, remembering how many times the man had yelled at her back when she was in Cobra Kai. When the class was quiet, Johnny nodded and started walking back and forth in front of the students, pointing at each and every one. "If you want to be an eagle, first you gotta learn how to fly. And you can't do that unless you jump."
"What if we fall?" Demetri asked and Johnny pulled his lips into a line, turning to Demetri's and nodding. "That's what the mattresses are for." Johnny said, pointing over the edge before putting his hands on his hips in a pose that reminded Sonny as a superhero. "And if we miss the mattresses?" Demetri asked and Johnny trilled his lips, shrugging. "Try not to." He said, making Demetri's jaw drop.
"All right, who's first?" Johnny asked. Sonny looked around at her friends, none of them looking too excited to jump, making Johnny groan.
"We're not leaving till someone jumps." Johnny said, looking over all the kids in front of him. Sonny's eyes fell just passed Johnny and onto the roof across the alley from them. She squinted for a few seconds before turning back to Johnny as Sam scoffed.
"Then I guess you'll be waiting a long time. Cause we're not jumping." Sam said and Sonny's face scrunched, turning to Sam as she shrugged. "I'll do it."
At Sonnys words, all the kids and Johnny all turned to her; the students watching her in shock while Johnny smiled, clapping. "There we go, Thompson! That's why I like you!"
"Sonny, are you crazy?!" Demetri yelled as Sonny too off her backpack. Sonny shrugged, a small hum passing through her lips. "Maybe. But my sisters dating a doctor. I'd get fixed. Plus, I did gymnastics when I was younger. I was good at jumping if I got a running start." She said before turning to Johnny, her eyebrows raised in worry. "I do get a running start, right?"
Johnny sighed, almost as if he were upset the question had come up as he waved Sonny off. "Yeah, yeah. Sure." Sonny smiled at the response, dropping her backpack at her feet and slowly walking back.
"You can't obviously be serious about this!" Demetri told Sonny as he watched her with wide eyes but Sonny's eyes never left the opposite roof.
When he didn't get an answer, Demetri tilted his head like an angered parent as he shook his head. "Sonny..." He warned just as Sonny stopped walking backwards. She closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths before she opened her eyes again.
"Listen to me! What are you–" Demetri's yells were cut off by Sonny running towards the edge of the roof. She ran up the mat and jumped off the building. She felt her stomach drop once she was about halfway across the alley.
When she felt her feet hit the roof, Sonny was still moving forward. She ran to catch her step before slowing down and stopping completely. She put her hands in her knees, trying to catch her breath after what she had just done before she smiled and let out a breathy laugh.
Sonny spun around in excitement, giving her teammates and Johnny two huge thumbs up. Johnny instantly started to cheered as Sam stared at Sonny in shock, a big smile on her face. Demetri's jaw dropped, looking at Sonny in shock. "Holy shit!" He yelled as Sam laughed. "Nice job, Sonny!" Sam screamed.
"There we go!" Johnny cheered, throwing his fist in the air in victory. Sonny let out a happy laugh, throwing her hands in the air as she let out a loud holler. Johnny laughed for a few seconds before turning to the rest of Miyagi-Do. "Now, someone else go."
"What?!" Sonny could hear Demetri yell from across the alley and Sonny's face scrunched. "Sensei, you said if someone did it, we'd go!" Sonny yelled as she leaned over the banister of the roof. Johnny turned to Sonny, waving her off. "Yeah, but I knew you could do it. I wanted one of these pussies to try!" Johnny yelled to Sonny before turning back to the Miyagi-Dos on the roof with him.
...
An hour.
Sonny had been on the other roof for an hour. No one else from Miyagi-Do jumped.
Johnny told Sonny to stay on that roof until someone else jumped and Sonny was bored so she called Moon.
"Why are you calling me? Shouldn't you be at karate?" Moon asked as soon as she answered the phone, not even saying hi from all the times they call each other throughout the day. From the looks of it, Moon was at the store, walking down one of the aisle, her phone in the children's seat of the shopping cart.
Sonny was sitting on the floor, her back leaned up against the edge of the roof as she shrugged. "I have nothing to do, Senseis yelling at the other students." Sonny said before raising her phone over her head so Moon could see Johnny standing over all the other Miyagi-Dos, yelling at them.
"Are they on a roof? Wait! Where are you?" Moo asked and Sonny's eyes widened, turning the camera back to her as she cleared her throat. "That's not important." She said, making Moon look down at the camera with a frown before turning back to the shelves. "Well, how is it going today with just Mr, Lawrence?"
Sonny sighed, letting her head fall back and hit the wall she was leaning on. "Sensei LaRusso definitely wouldn't approve."
Moons eyes widened slightly, her eyes still on the shelves. "That worries me but at least I know you know your limit. I mean, if Mr. Lawrence told you to jump off a bridge, you wouldn't." Moon said, shrugging as she put something in her cart. Sonny's eyes went wide, a tight smile taking over her face as she nodded. "Exactly. Yes." She said, holding back her laughs.
"Fine! You guys win!" Johnny suddenly yelled, making Sonny's eyes instantly widened, turning to her phone to look at Moon. "I gotta go." She whispered and Moon laughed, nodding her head. "Okay. See you after practice." She said, blowing a kiss to Sonny before hanging up.
As soon as Moon was off the screen, Sonny put her phone in her pocket and pushed herself off the ground to look at the roof across from her.
"You can bore Cobra Kai into submission. You all failed except that one!" Johnny yelled, pointing at Sonny when he said "that one". "So just grab your crap and lets go!" Johnny yelled angrily before turning to Sonny.
"Thompson! Meet us downstairs!" Johnny yelled and Sonny gave him a thumbs up. With that, Johnny nodded, him and Miyagi-Do walking towards the exit of the roof.
Just as Sonny was about to walk towards the roof exit, she noticed Sam stop. Sam turned to Sonny, giving her a nod before she dropped her bag. Sonny smiled as Sam ran backwards to get a head start before she ran towards the edge of the roof.
"Woohoo! Yes!" Sonny yelled, pulling Sam into a tight hug. Sam let out a happy laugh as she hugged Sonny back, proud of the two of them as Johnny let out a cheer. "Nice move, LaRusso! Now both of you, meet us downstairs!" Johnny yelled before walking towards the stairs.
Sam smiled, wrapping a lazy arm across Sonny's shoulders. "We did good, Sonny." Sam said and Sonny turned to her, smiling as she wrapped her arm around Sam. "Hell yeah, we did." She said before walking towards the roof exit.
