Sonny and Moon watched Sam impatiently as she sipped the smoothie, the two holding hands excitedly, waiting to see how Sam liked the smoothie. Sam slowly pulled away from the straw, nodding her head. "It's good."
The two girls nodded happily at Sams words. "It has fresh acai, organic kale, and free trade hemp oil." Sams eyes immediately went to the size of saucers at Moons list, looking down at the drink. "Hemp oil? I mean, this isn't gonna get me high, is it?"
Sonny laughed, shaking her head. "No, no. Don't worry. It's just supposed to balance your kinetic energy." Sam sighed, sitting across the two with a small smile. "I'm really glad you called." Sam turned to Moon and smiled. "I missed hanging out with you." She turned to Sonny and gave her the same smile. "And I want to get to know you better."
Sonny let out a breathy laugh, nodding her head as Sam sighed, touching the two shirts she sat on her bed. "So, which one do you like better? I've been wearing the white top a lot."
Sonnys face scrunched, looking up to Sam. "Well, why does it matter? We're just gonna get all sweaty." Moon caught onto why Sam asked, a smirk growing on her face. "Wait... Do you have a crush?"
"I don't have a crush." Sam quickly denied and Sonnys jaw dropped, a huge smile growing on her face. "Is it Robby?" Sams face flushed, she quickly closed her bedroom door, making Sonny laugh. "Oh, my God!"
"How long have you guys been-" "We haven't. We almost." Sam interrupted Moon and suddenly Sonny felt her heart drop slightly as she turned to Sam. "Does Miguel know?"
Sam turned to Sonny sadly, knowing the girl was still friends with him. "There's nothing to know. It's crazy. After last year, I got back into karate to get away from all the drama."
Moon sighed, making Sam turn to her. "Well, my mom's therapist always says, you can't hide from your heart."
Sonny looked down at the clothes and pointed at the blue shirt. "I think you should wear the blue one. It goes with your eyes."
Sam smiled at her, nodding her head as Moon chuckled. "All right. Now, shoes."
...
After helping Sam pick an outfit, Moon drove them to Miyagi-Do where everyone waited under a tree in the backyard to hide from the heat.
Demetri groaned, his head roughly falling on Sonny's shoulder. "Oh, God! It's so hot out. I'm sweating in places I didn't even know I had pores." The boy groaned, wiping his sweat on Sonny's shoulder.
Sonny looked down at her shoulder with wide eyes, pushing his head off of her and wiping her shoulder on his shirt.
"All right, guys. Get out from under that tree. It's time to get to work." Daniel cheered, walking up to the kids. Robby groaned, slowly standing up. "Hey, Mr. LaRusso, it's like 100 degrees out. Can we take it easy today?"
Daniel scoffed as the rest of the kids started to stand up. "Are you kidding? This heatwave is a gift. Today, you are going to experience Shochu-Geiko."
Sonny's face scrunched as she pulled her hair into a ponytail. "Like the car insurance?" Daniel chuckled, shaking his head. "Shochu-Geiko is a Japanese exercise where you train during the hottest days of the year. It's about pushing yourself to your limit. The fight isn't always going to come when it's 75 degrees and breezy."
"Aren't we supposed to avoid fighting?" Sam asked. Daniel sighed at her words. "Sometimes, you can't. Someday, the fight may come to you. And I wanna make sure you're ready. So, today, we're gonna see what Miyagi-Do is made of."
...
Sonny stood in the middle of the group in her fighting stance, waiting for Daniel to call out a number.
"Two!" Daniel screamed.
Sonny spun around to where Robby was running at her. He went to punch her but she quickly caught his fist and kicked him in the stomach, knocking him down. Sonny quickly stuck her arm out to help him up, he sent her a small smile and a nod before she got back in position.
"Five."
Sonny turned to face Sam. The LaRusso girl sent a punch to Sonny but she quickly blocked it but wasn't quick enough to block Sam's foot. Sam kicked Sonny in the chest, making her grunt and let go off Sam's wrist. "Got you." Sam chuckled out.
"All right, Demetri's turn. Come on." Daniel said, clapping his hands. Sonny went to take Demetri's place in the circle, doing their handshake as he passed for good luck.
"Three."
Chris went running to Demetri, not even giving him time to prepare before punching him in the stomach. "Sorry, Meat. You gotta block that."
"Six."
The kid beside Sonny ran to Demetri, sweeping his legs out from under him. Demetri groaned from the ground. "I hate this."
Sonny turned to look at Daniel who was getting slightly annoyed."All right, come on, get up."
"Can we please take a break? This heat is brutal." Sam said and all the kids begged along, everyone sweating through their shirts, Sonny just about ready to take hers off and practice in her sports bra.
Daniel smirked, nodding his head at Sam's question. "You guys wanna cool off? All right. I think I can accommodate that."
...
The kids and Daniel now stood in a freezer, their sweat all gone and they now were cold.
"So, you couldn't take the heat of Shochu-Geiko, perhaps, you'll find Kangeiko more to your liking." Daniel said and Sonny rolled her eyes. "We didn't think you'd stick us in a freezer." Sam nodded in agreement with Sonny. "Yeah. Are there are no "geikos" that takes place in a spa?"
Sonny gasped, turning to Sam. "A spa sounds nice, us and Moon should go to a spa some time." Sam turned to Sonny, laughing and nodding in agreement. "Oh, yes!"
"Girls!" Daniel screamed, drawing Sonny and Sam out of their conversation. "It's not about the heat or the cold. It's about adapting to the environment around you and using that to your advantage. Look around, what do you see?"
"Frozen London broil." Chris said and Daniel sighed. "No, not the meat, look past that." Sonny scoffed. "The metal wall behind the broil."
Daniel turned to Sonny with a slight glare as Demetri stepped up. "She gets cranky in the cold."
Daniel nodded, looking back to Sonny. "What do you see?" Sonny sighed, looking around. As her eyes passed Nate, he was in the middle of exhaling, the air coming out of his mouth fogging. "I see the exhalation of breath." Sonny answered, looking back to Daniel who nodded proudly.
"Exactly. I see... The twitch of a muscle. The shift of a stance. If you lean into the cold, it will heighten your senses. And then you'll anticipate the moment before your opponent strikes. And you'll always be ready."
Daniel phone rang and he quickly pulled it out, looking at the caller ID before declining and looking back to the students. "All right, circle up. Let's get Demetri in there."
Demetri sighed as he walked into the middle of the circle, his hands stuffed in his pockets. " All right, here goes nothing... Literally." Sonny sighed at his words as Daniel shook his head. "Set."
Demetri got into a fighting stance, waiting for Daniel to call out a number.
"Six."
Sonny sighed, running up to Demetri, sending a kick to his stomach that he didn't even try to block. Sonny bit her lips anxiously, taking her spot back in the circle as Daniel sighed. "Come on, Demetri. Look for the signs. Anticipate, you can do this. All right, focus. Come on, Demetri."
"I can't do it, Mr. LaRusso. Between the cold and the shouting and the hole in my sock... I'm not sure when that happened, but it's real uncomfortable." Demetri yelled.
Daniel sighed, walking up to the boy. "Demetri, you are the most neurotic person that I know." Sonny put her hand to her face to hide her snicker at his words as he continued. "You always expect the worst. But you could use that to your advantage. It means you anticipate."
Sonny's eyes widened in realization as she tooka step towards Demetri and Daniel. "Demi, think of it Spider-Sense. Like Peter Parker." Daniel pointed at Sonny, glad for her analogy as he continued. "Look, Demetri, this isn't about who's fastest and who's strongest. This is about instincts. It's about using what's in here." Daniel said, pointing at Demetri's head. "You think you could do that?"
Demetri looked back and forth between Daniel and Sonny before nodding, making the two smile. Sonny went back to her spot in the circle as Daniel stood outside of it. "All right. Let's try it again. Remember, anticipate."
"Six."
Sonny ran to Demetri, throwing punches to his side that he blocked everytime. Demetri grabbed her wrist on her third punch. He quickly looked up into Sonny's eyes and punched her in the stomach.
Sonny let out an airy laugh as Demetri threw his hands in the air in victory. "Wohoo! I did it!"
Daniel chuckled, nodding his head. "Five."
Chris ran to Demetri who was still celebrating and kicked him in the stomach, making his cheers stop. Sonny winced, nodding her head. "Hey, Demi... It okay, that's okay. Baby steps."
Demetri nodded, giving her a thumbs up as she came up to hug him in congratulations, the rest of the team coming and joining the hug.
...
"Oh my God! Sonny... darling, you're freezing!" Moon screeched when she picked up Sonny from karate. Sonny immediately going in for a hug.
"We practice in a freezer..." Sonny mumbled into Moon's shoulder. Moons jaw practically dropped as she hugged onto Sonny. "A freezer?" Sonny nodded into Moons shoulder. Moon slowly started to loosen her grip to look down at Sonny.
"No, no, no. Keep hugging me. I need body heat." Sonny said when she felt Moon start to let go. Moon sighed, hugging Sonny more into her.
