☼sparks fly☾

Karate was back on for Miyagi-Fang. Today, they were working with Sensei LaRusso's friend, Chozen. Sonny stood in the shade with Miguel, Hawk, and Demetri to stretch.

"So, you and Sam back in the dojo. Game on, right?" Hawk asked, a small smirk on his face as he attempted to elbow Miguel's side jokingly. Miguel huffed, pushing Hawk away from him. Since Hawk was standing on one foot to stretch his leg, he stumbled into Sonny. Before either two could hit the ground, Demetri, who was standing beside Sonny, grabbed the two of them and helped them stay balanced.

As Sonny muttered a small thank you to Demetri, Miguel sighed in defeat at Hawk's question. "Yeah, game on for karate." He muttered looking down to the grass. Hawk smirked, elbowing Miguel again as he nodded his head towards Sam. "Come on. I see you staring at her."

Sonny's brows furrowed as she turned to Sam. All Sam was doing was stretching with Anthony but as s far as Sonny was concerned, Sam and Miguel were still staying just friends. It was mutual. Sonny looked back to Miguel and frowned.

"I thought you decided to keep things platonic?" Sonny asked and Miguel looked down almost guiltily. Hawk chuckled, letting out a jokingly-awkward breath of air. "Yeah, well, she did. He didn't." He muttered through his teeth.

Demetri sighed as he, Sonny, and Hawk finished stretching. He walked over to Miguel and lazily wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "Well, uh, you know what they say, 'Put a box of matches near some fireworks, soon enough..." Demetri imitated an explosion before smirking at Miguel. "Sparks will fly."

Miguel rolled his eyes, an unamused smile plastered on his face. "Is that what they say?" Miguel muttered under his breath. He looked to Sonny and raised his eyebrows. "What do you say?" He asked considering Sonny was friends with both him and Sam.

Sonny smiled widely at the question. "Sparks fly is a great Taylor Swift song." She hummed as she ran a hand through her hair. Miguel rolled his eyes, part of him mad at himself for not expecting this answer for her.

Demetri winced, making his three friends all turn to him. They watched as he looked at someone on the other side of the dojo. "Something tells me it's about to be the Fourth of July."

Sonny and Hawk turned her head to see who Demetri was looking at and her shoulders dropped at the sight of Robby walking towards Sam. Hawk scoffed at the sight of the boy, shaking his head as he turned back to Miguel. "Can't believe that piece of shit's on our team." He muttered.

Sonny snickered at Hawks anger, whacking the boys arm. "Oh, relax." She said, earning a glare from the boy. Miguel nodded in agreement with Sonny, his eyes glued on Robby laughing with Sam. "He wants exactly what we want. It's gonna be okay."

Before Hawk could fight them, Chozen whistled from the fighting deck. The four stopped their stretching and walked towards the man.

"Line up!" He yelled and the students complied, Hawk, Miguel, Sonny, and Sam in the very front of their class. Sams brows furrowed when she realized her father and Johnny weren't there. She shook her head before she looked up at Chozen who was towering over the students on the deck. "So where are my dad and Johnny?"

"Not here. Today, you train with me." Chozen said and Sonny smiled, nodding her head just enough for the man not to notice. "Sweet." She muttered under her breath.

"Bow." Chozen instructed and immediately the students listened, all bowing to the man. "Cobra Kai gaining ground. We must prepare. Now, we learn about Yanbaru Kuina." He said and Chris chuckled from behind Sonny.

"What is that? Like, some top-secret karate move? Like a throat rip?" He asked, imitating the move he described. Chozen didn't even crack a smile at the boy, only hold his chin higher. "No. It is bird. In English called Okinawa rail. Endangered. Cannot fly."

"Hence, endangered." Sonny heard Demetri mutter somewhere behind her.

Sonny watched as Chozen walked towards the edge of the fighting deck. Her eyes widened as he grabbed a carton of eggs. "So these are the real eggs?" She asked, her voice shaking a little at the thought of using an endangered species eggs for fighting.

Chozen shook his head at the girl, opening the carton and holding it out for all of them to take. "No. Trader Joe's. $3.29." He reassured as the whole front row grabbed an egg.

Once everyone had an egg, Hawk's brows furrowed, looking down at the egg in his hands before looking up at Chozen. "So what do we do with them?"

"Yanbaru Kuina must protect egg. From Kume Shima habu. Poison snake. You must do same. Begin your preparation." He explained and Sonny squinted, part of it because of Chozen's words and the other because of the sun in her eyes. "What are we protecting them from?"

"From me." Chozen answered, reaching behind his back and pulling out nunchucks Sonny didn't even know he had on him.

Immediately, Sonny bolted away from the man, all of the students following after her to hide their own eggs.

...

Sonny and Sam wandered around the backyard of the dojo, searching for places to hide their eggs. As they circled the koi pond, an idea popped into Sonny's head.

Sonny looked around the backyard to make sure Chozens eyes weren't on her. She watched as Chozen threw a knife across the backyard, the weapon lodging itself into Demetri's egg. A small chuckle left her lips as she turned back to the koi pond and crouched down.

Sam watched Sonny with furrowed eyebrows as the Thompson girl dipped her hand and egg into the water and let go. The two girls watched as the egg slowly started to sink before it gently hit the bottom. It blended in with all the rocks in the water. Unless Chozen was really looking in the water, his eyes would just brush past it.

Sonny let a triumphant smile grow on her face as she stood up and wiped her hand onto her pant leg. She turned to Sam beside her who had a smile on her face. "Nice." Sam said with a nod and Sonny's smile grew. "Thanks."

"Hey."

The two girls turned around at the voice behind them. They smiled at Robby nervous standing across them, his hands nervously in his pockets.

"Hey." Sam said back as Sonny laughed. "Déjà vu having you back here." Sonny said, smiling at the memories of when Robby used to be in Miyagi-Do with her.

Robby smiled, his nervousness slowly slipping away as he looked around the dojo. "Like what you guys have done." Robby said before his eyes fell in the sparring deck Demetri stood at since his egg was broken. Robby chuckled, turning back to the girls. "How many times did Mr. LaRusso make you guys sand that deck?"

"Zero, actually." Sam said and Sonny laughed. "Gratefully." She added, looking at Sam before she turned to Robby with raised eyebrows and a big smile. "Cause your dad brought a power sander."

Robbys head fell back as a loud laugh left his mouth, making the girls laugh with him. He looked back down to the girls and shook his head. "Sounds like him." He said through his laughs.

As their laughter died down, small smiles settled on their faces. Sonny tilted her head at the boy in front of her and made her smile a little bigger. "It's good to have you back, Robby."

Robby's smile widened at Sonny's. He looked back and forth between the two girls, both of them looking happy to have him back. He gave Sonny a small nod of gratitude. "Good to be back."

...

Sam decided to hide inside the dojo while Robby continued to look for a spot to hide his egg. Sonny sat against the tree by the koi pond, making sure Chozen didn't get too close to it and have him catch her egg.

With her eyes on the koi pond, Sonny didn't noticed Eli coming over until he sat beside her. Sonny turned her head at the feeling of someone brush her side and smiled at the boy. "Hey." She said as she looked down at his hands and noticed he was still holding his egg. Her eyebrows furrowed before she looked up at Hawk.

"Why haven't you hidden your egg yet?" Sonny asked and Eli chuckled. His eyes drifted to the kids on the sparring deck who were already out and shook his head. "No one else has had any luck hiding their eggs. Figured I'd just fight the guy for it." Eli said.

Sonny held back laughing in her friends face. She hasn't seen Chozen fight yet, but she was sure Eli could not take him. Although she was hiding her laugh pretty well, Sonny struggled hiding the smile on her face. When Eli turned to look back at her, Sonny pulled her lips together into a line, hiding her smile as best as she could.

"Where did you hide yours?" Hawk asked. Sonny looked back to the other side of the dojo where Chozen was. Once she knew he wasn't around to hear her, Sonny leaned closer to Hawks ear and looked to the koi pond where Bert and Nate now where, balancing on the balance board. "In the water." She whispered.

Hawk looked to the koi pond and chuckled at the girls idea. He bumped her shoulder with his and started to stand up. "Well, good luck." He said and Sonny smiled up at him. "You too." She said and once Hawk was far enough away, she cleared her throat. "You're gonna need it." She muttered to the retreating boy, but he couldn't hear her.

As Hawk walked away, Sonny turned back into the direction Chozen once stood. Her eyes widened and she immediately sat up in worry when she couldn't find Chozen anywhere in the backyard. She turned to the koi pond and watched Nate and Bert, who were sitting on the balance board, spin their eggs.

Suddenly, Chozen's head rose from the water, his eyes glued on the two younger boys, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Even though there wasn't much she could do, Sonny jumped off the ground and ran towards the edge of the pond just as Chozen tipped the board, making Nate and Bert fall onto their own eggs and then into the water.

Sonny let out a small gasp, her hands going to her face as she squinted to try and find her egg in the water. A relieved breath left her lips as she noticed the faint white oval at the bottom of the pond.

Chozen looked up when he noticed someone standing on the edge of the pond out of the corner of his eyes. When he saw Sonny was watching something in the water, his eyes followed hers and he smirked when he saw the egg.

He took slow steps towards the egg and Sonny's heart dropped when he looked up  at her and smirked. Chozen kept his eyes glued on Sonny as he raised his foot and smashed it on top of the egg. Sonny's shoulders slumped, a small huff leaving her mouth as she turned and walked towards the losers area in defeat.

Demetri and Robby waited for her at the sparring deck; Robby watching her sympathetically and Demetri having a big grin on her face. As Sonny stood beside Robby, Demetri raised his eyebrows. "I must say, you did a lot better than I thought you would with the hiding spot." Demetri taunted.

Sonny's brows furrowed. She leaned forward so she could see Demetri from over Robby and gave the boy a fake glare. "Weren't you the first one out?" She asked and immediately, Demetri's joking demeanor fell.

Not long after Sonny joined the sparring deck, Eli and Anthony came over from the parking lot. Sonny gave a playful frown to the boy, wanting to taunt him just like Demetri had done with her. "Aw... Didn't win your fight?" She asked as Hawk walked up to stand beside her, the boy responding with a grumbled huff.

Robby's brows furrowed at the interaction. Since Hawk and Anthony came from the front of the dojo, he didn't see how Chozen eliminated the two. "How'd he take you out?" He asked and Hawk, still angry, turned to glare at Robby from over Sonny.

"Shut up. Don't talk to me." Hawk snapped and Sonny's eyes widened. At the same time, her and Demetri both leaned back so they could see each other from over Robby. "Oh, he's moody." Sonny mouthed and Demetri immediately nodded in agreement.

"If this is about the mohawk, I'm sorry. If anybody knows how Cobra Kai can turn you into an asshole, it's you." Robby defended. Hawk scoffed out a laugh, turning his whole body to face Robby as he gently reached out to touch Sonny's shoulder, moving her out of the way so he could get closer to Robby.

"So I'm an asshole?" Hawk asked and Robby pursed his lips and looked off into the distance as if he were thinking. "Yeah, well, let's see. Uh, you attacked me, Demetri, Sonny and Sam at the mall. You broke Demetri's arm. You trashed this entire dojo." Robby said, putting up a finger every time he listed something.

Hawks face grew red in anger, taking another step towards Robby, making Sonny and Demetri's eyes widen. "Guys! Enough!" Sonny yelled, putting a hand on Hawk and Robby's chest and pushing them apart and Demetri squeezed in beside her,

"Enough! All right? You're both ex-assholes now. Great. Very proud of you." Demetri said, making both boys ease off of each other. As all eyes turned to Demetri, they noticed the panicked look on his face. "Can we focus on the issue at hand? There is a madman out thereusing weapons on us." Demetri shrieked.

Sonny rolled her eyes, shaking her head reassuringly. "Oh, he is not a madman." Sonny said and Demetri's head whipped to her, his eyes wide. Just as he was about to open his mouth to counter the girls words, Robby spoke up.

"Who's even left?"

...

After breaking all of the kids eggs, the students all watched as Chozen sat on the floor of the deck, making a fried egg with the leftover eggs. Sonny shook her head, her arms crossed over her chest. "Now this is just making me hungry." She said muttered.

Chozen looked up from his egg and to the students. "You are not good Yanbaru Kuina. Snakes will take you down one by one. I have tried to tell you what you must do. But you do not listen. You must learn to adapt or soon, you will be extinct." He said before he stood up, pointing at the new carton of eggs at his feet. "Take new eggs. Try again."

The students all lined up and grabbed their eggs. They crowded around the pond as Chris shook his head and scoffed. "Sensei Toguchi's real cryptic, like Mr. LaRusso, but aggressive like Sensei Lawrence." He said, making Mitch nod his head in agreement. "It's like the hardest part of both styles."

"Can't wait to get our asses kicked again." Demetri muttered under his breath as the big huddle of students slowly started to disperse.

"No, um... G-Guys, uh, wait!" Anthony yelled, making all of the students stop and turn back to him. "He said that the snakes will take us down one by one. Right? Just like he took us down one by one, but... But what if we weren't a bunch of ones? Like, what if we were..."

"Together." Sam interrupted, immediately catching onto Anthony's plan. The boy smiled at his sister, nodding his head. "Yeah, exactly. Like, um, a raiding party in Dungeon Lords."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah! Even if you're a level 85, you can't mount an attack on the grand realm alone." Demetri said and Eli smirked, hitting Demetri's arm, agreeing with him. "You need a team. Everybody has a special role. The only way we win is if we work together. As one."

All of the students started to walk back to the sparring deck. Sonny noticed the empty egg carton and grabbed it. One by one, the kids dropped their eggs in. Once the carton was filled again, she set it down and they all lined up in front of it, blocking Chozen from getting to it.

"So we're sure we want to put all our eggs in one basket? You're specifically not supposed to do that." Demetri asked and Anthony looked up at him, nodding his head. "This is gonna work."

A loud whistle made everyone turn to Chozen, but he wasn't there.

"Shit!" Sonny muttered under her breath, looking around the backyard as Sam asked, "Has anyone seen him?" Suddenly, Chozen came out from the side of the home, running at them with a bo in hand. Eli's eyes widened at the man's speed, getting into fighting position. "Ready!" He yelled, everyone getting into their fighting stance as well.

Since Anthony was in the very center of the line of teens, Chozen ran at him first. He raised his bo and started to throwing it back down at him, but Demetri and Sonny, who stood on either side of Anthony, blocked it with their forearms.

Sonny hissed in pain at the bo hitting her as Hawk got out of formation, kicking Chozen in the stomach to get him away from the students. Sonny didn't waste a second to jump in, trying to throw a punch at the man, but Chozen grabbed Sonny's hand and threw her back. Sonny stumbled and started to fall backwards, right over the eggs.

Miguel ran towards Sonny, catching her just before she could fall back on the eggs as Hawk tried to kick Chozen, but it was quickly blocked by Chozen's bo.

"Grab the bō!" Eli yelled, he and Robby jumping towards Chozen and grabbing his bo. Soon, over half of the students grabbed into the bo while the other half tried to fight Chozen.

Once they got the bo out of his hands, Sonny turned to Eli on her right. The two made eye contact and nodded. At the same time, the two ran to Chozen, spinning around, and kicking him in the chest.

Chozen stumbled back, groaning as the all of the students stopped fighting, waiting to see his next move. Chozen stood up straight and scanned his eyes over all of the teens.

"Snake concede." Chozen breathed out in defeat. Sonny and Sam's jaw dropped and turned into a smile. Sam grabbed Sonny's shoulders, shaking them widely as Eli turned to face the youngest LaRusso.

"Dude, it worked!" Eli screamed, running to Anthony to hug him. Sonny cheered as they all ran towards Eli and Anthony to create a group hug.

Chozen smiled at the students, nodding his head in a proud. "This is what we have that Cobra Kai does not. Their movement mile wide, but only inch deep. But our movement, inch wide, but mile deep. Now that you have learned to work together, I will teach you how to master your defense." Chozen said and all the students smiled, turning to give the undivided attention to him as they bowed.
