~claudia and the phantom phone calls!~

"Did he ask you to the dance or not?" Kristy asked Claudia at the meeting.

Katara rolled her eyes and went back to reading Failure Is Not an Option, a book about the Apollo missions.

"Well?"

"He asked me if I was going and said he'd see me there! So he basically asked me." Claudia explained. We'll be there together! Basically."

"Here's the thing. A guy like Trevor Sandbourne isn't gonna, like, show up at your door with a corsage. That's just not the way things are done in his kind of circles." Stacey explained.

"Which are what, exactly?" Kristy asked, confused about why the girls were obsessing over a boy that's not even cute.

"Sophisticated circles. Artistic circles." Stacey told Kristy.

Kristy got off her chair and walked over to Katara who was on the floor, bored of the conversation and sat down next to her. "The boys in our town aren't even cute, they're ugly."

"I know right? Like, boys are overrated." Katara closed her book to look at Kristy, the two finally agreeing on something.

"Exactly!" Kristy threw her hands in the air.

The other three were watching the two talk and Claudia whispered something to Stacey, and the blonde gave her ten dollars and shook her hand.

"Are you gonna wear a costume?" Mary Anne looked over at Claudia.

"I was gonna be a Troll doll, but for Trevor, I might have to think of something a little more soigné." Claudia smiled as Stacey nodded.

"Bro, you're kidding, right?" Katara asked, Kristy still sitting next to her on the floor. "Boys don't deserve you changing up your costume for them."

"Yeah, you're gonna get all dressed up for some dude who couldn't even be bothered to ask you out for real? Like, if I were to ask someone out like Kat or someone, I would be a troll doll with them!" Kristy said, realizing what she had said.

"Uh, I mean, not that I would ask Kat out, I can't stand her." Kristy got up from the floor and went back to her chair.

"Wow, thanks, Kris, love you too." Katara smiled. "This makes me feel loved but hated at the same time."

"Told you, Stace." Claudia sang.

"What about you, Mary Anne? That cute boy Logan might be there. The one you're always staring at who volunteers at the library?" Stacey smiled.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Mary Anne said nervously. "Anyway, there's no way my dad would ever let me go. He's been spinning out enough lately about the Phantom Caller."

Kristy went and sat down next to Katara again.

"What's that?" Stacey wondered.

"Some weirdo home invader that was on the news. Apparently, you get these creepy anonymous phone calls. Then, you realize that the calls were coming from inside the house." Mary Anne said as if she were telling a creepy camp story.

The phone started ringing and the girls jumped, and Kristy hugged Katara.

"Oh god, cue the Jaws music. Steven Speilberg, get out from under the desk! We have a movie idea for you!" She joked. "Dude, let go of me."

Katara got up and answered the phone.

"Hey there, Babysitters club! This is Katara Coyle, secretary of state speaking."

She looked at Kristy and everyone automatically knew that it was either Watson or Elizabeth.

"Hold please, thank you." She muted the phone.

"Watson needs a sitter on Friday. Well, Elizabeth called, but you know." Katara explained, sitting in Kristy's chair.

"But that's the night of the dance," Claudia said.

"Yeah yeah we know, you two are out of the question, got it." Kristy scoffed.

"I can sit for them if you want!" Katara said. She liked the Brewers, she and Karen both had a love for horror and creepy things, and Andrew was adorable.

"Katara, you've babysat for them practically every time. Kristy, this is, like, the seventh time since the club has started that your mom or Watson has called in with a job. You're the only one who hasn't gone,  and you're the only one they actually want." Mary Anne exclaimed.

Kristy took the phone from Katara.

"Hello, this is Kristy Thomas. Mary Anne Spier will be your sitter on Friday, have a wonderful day!"

"So, does that mean you're asking Blue girl to go to the Halloween Hop after all?" Claudia smiled.

"No offence to you Kat, but I'd rather have head lice. Again." Kristy bit a Twizzler, making sure that Katara didn't take it from her.

"You get head lice a lot," Claudia said. "What about you, Kat?"

"Oh, I'm gonna be watching the last two episodes of Avatar with my friend from California." She smiled.

"Ooh, math! I hate math!" Katara smiled as she skipped over to Claudia and Stacey. "I can help, though!"

She was ignored by Claudia who looked back at Trevor, but Stacy smiled at her as the brunette started eating her mac and cheese and reading her book.

"Oh my god, he's coming over here!" Claudia fangirled over the boy with Stacey.

"Holy poop, he's a mediocre wannabe skater kid!" Katara pretended to squeal with them, having the two girls roll their eyes jokingly.

"Go on, tell them!" A pissed off Kristy said.

"I can't babysit for the Brewer's tomorrow night." Mary Anne looked like crying.

"It's okay Anne! We're not gonna fire you." Katara joked as Kristy sat next to her.

"Anne?" Mary Anne questioned.

"Sorry, I like to have nicknames for people. Is Anne okay?" Katara asked.

"Yeah, but only you can call me that." She told the girls.

"Nice." Katara kept reading.

"She was 20 minutes and last night and her dad grounded her. Now I'm the one who's gonna have to sit for stupid Watson's stupid kids. Unless one of you decides not to go to the dance." Kristy asked Claudia and Stacey.

"Absolutely not. What about Blue girl? She isn't doing anything but watching some show with her friend." Stacey shook her head.

"She's sat for them enough. No one should sit for them for the seventh time." Kristy reasoned.

"First, you're mad at her for sitting for Karen and Andrew, and now you're mad at her that she can't? You're crazy." Claudia scoffed.

"Excuse me, I'm trying to run a business here, It's not crazy to be mad when someone behaves unprofessionally." Kristy shot back. "You know who is crazy? Richard Spier."

"Oh, shut up Kristy. Mary Anne didn't do anything wrong and her dad is just worried about her! He's a good person who means well, what did he ever do to you?" Katara slammed her book shut.

"Kat, stay out of this. He's a psycho! Even my mom thinks so! He's not normal." Kristy said to Mary Anne.

"No, Kristoffer Amanda Thomas, I am not going to stay out of this! Mary Anne is my friend and she is the sweetest person on the planet! You, on the other hand, are the spawn of Satan! So shut up!" Katara yelled.

"Oh, shut up Katara! And why did you call me Kristoffer? Also, how would you know about this, huh? Isn't your dad a drug addict? Wait, aren't both your parents' drug addicts?" Kristy stood up.

Katara got up and sat next to Claudia.

"Kristy, what would you know about having a normal dad?" Mary Anne screamed, sick of Kristy being mean to her. "Kristy, I mean... I-"

Kristy grabbed her lunch and stood up, flicking Katara on her head as she ran away from the table.

"I'm a horrible person!" Mary Anne cried, running after Kristy.

"Bye Dawn! Can't wait to see you when I come to Cali!" Katara hung up her call with Dawn, turning her phone off. They had just finished watching Avatar and now Katara was planning to go and get ice cream when she got a text.
