Distance

Now and then I see a castle in the distance when I'm out flying. I've always wondered what it is, but Zuriel keeps telling me we must not go near it, so I always keep a safe distance.
But still, it fascinates me.
Sometimes I wander closer than I should and see dark figures in the windows and on the path in front of the building. None have ever seen me, of course, but the first time Zuriel found out about my wanderings he banned me from flying for a week.
The war will start soon, I'm sure. Tensions are high, and we've stockpiled at least three months worth of food along with over two hundred guns and tons of ammunition.
I got to go flying again on the day before the war started.
I saw the dark figures loading munitions into trucks and onto trains and taking them inside the castle. They've also been testing some incendiary bombs, and that worries me as well as everyone else, especially Reuben.
It's been seven days since Zuriel and I have seen anyone outside the castle.
It's the eighth day since someone's been outside. They dropped incendiary bombs near the tavern today. I'm getting really worried now that the war has apparently started.
We sent out five bombers with Zuriel today and they're dropping napalm on the castle.
I watched from the tavern door as huge walls of fire flared up in the distance.
And I watched.
