The Confession

Three months have passed had finally passed from the day they won the space trip ticket. It was the day of the take off. Miu walked silently to the space center with Miyako. Just after 5 hours, Miyako would stop breathing. Miyako's heart would slowly stop beating. Miyako would not exist in this world. Miu couldn't bear it. Yet, she couldn't tell her what she saw. There has to be another way to warn Miyako. There has to be. However, Miu can't bring herself to say it. She couldn't walk up to Miyako and say she has psychic abilities and foresaw her death. It was very distressing. They approached the entrance counter.

"Welcome to the Space center. What ticket would you like to buy?" a young lady asked. She waved at the wall behind her, which had all kinds of tickets and prices labeled on it.

"We already have our tickets." Miyako said, passing the tickets. The lady at the counter (who was called Bess) looked at their tickets, and exclaimed; "You must be Miyako and Miu! Please go down that corridor! It says 'Staff Only' but ignore that. You'll see Professor Kumahira in there. Have fun!". She smiled brightly at them. Miyako smiled back. "Thanks!" she said brightly. Pulling Miu with her, they headed towards the corridor. Like what Bess had said, when they got inside they saw a heavy metal door, clearly marked with:

STAFF ONLY. ALL TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED.

"Well, that's one sign thats easy to ignore." Miyako stated. Miu looked down at the handle. There was a key hole at the top of it. "Do you think it's locked?" Miu asked nervously. Could this be some sort of trap?

"Only one way to find out." Miyako replied. She opened the door easily. Miu let a sigh of relief. They entered a long, dark metal hallway. Is this a trap? The door clicked as it closed shut. They both turned around. It can't possibly be locked. "Is...it locked?" Miu asked, frightened.

"Don't think so." Miyako replied, who was trying to convince herself as well. Both uneasy, they turned back around again and started walking. Footsteps that wasn't theirs echoed in the dim corridor. It was Professor Kumahira. He waved cheerfully at them.

"Hello, Miyako and Miu. Hope you had a good time. Sorry about the dimness. This corridor is fairly new, and the lighting isn't working quite right." Professor Kumahira said, shaking hands. "Now, this corridor leads to Star Straight's take off area, so if you walk straight down, you can explore the spaceship. Take off will be commencing in an hour, so take your time. Remember to have a snack, take a drink and go to the toilet. I'll be going on Star Straight with you, but I'll be joining you only when it's time for take off. Have fun!". He then took off into the darkness and vanished. Miu winced at the thought of take off, and carried on walking silently.

What's wrong with Miu? I thought she was just as excited as I was, but she looks so miserable right now.

Miyako's thought flooded into Miu's brain.

After that day, Miu hasn't been the same. She keeps finding excuses not to come. She keeps coming up to me to say something, yet hesitate and backs away.

Miu's heart jumped.

Maybe she doesn't want to be my friend anymore. Maybe, she was never my friend in the first place...NO! Miu isn't like that. Or is she...?

Miu gasped. Did Miyako really think that? She must of been so horrible to her! Except, how could she tell this to her? Another metal door loomed in front of them. They have reached the end of the corridor.

Miyako opened it, and bright light flooded in. Miu cowered, the light was eye scorching. When she finally recovered, she saw a huge dry and sandy area, and there it was. Star Straight. It was the most magnificent thing she ever saw. The sheer size of it all. The sleek elegance of the jet black metal, spotted with flecks of white and blue. Yet, no matter how grand and fancy it was, it couldn't take her despair away.

"Miu, lets go and explore the spaceship...!" Miyako said, trying to sound cheerful.

"Sure. Lets go." Miu replied flatly. She couldn't change the tone. They walked silently together to the spaceship, both feeling the tension between them.

As soon as Miyako entered the spaceship, she slammed the door behind them. Miu stifled a gasp. Miyako was rarely aggressive, but the feelings Miu was picking up was anger, sadness, frustration, and... was that... loneliness?

"Why have you been avoiding me?! Why are you coming with excuses not to come, time and time again?! What secrets are you keeping hidden away from me?! Why aren't you telling me all this? Are you even my friend?!" she shouted, her voice rising in volume by every second. Miu shrank into a corner. "Miyako..." but Miyako wasn't listening.

"You've been ignoring me for the past ten weeks! You have been keeping secrets behind my back! I told you all my secrets! I trusted you, yet all this time, YOU WERE NEVER MY FRIEND! You never even bothered to tell me!" Miyako shouted, building up her rage, until it was a fiery red demon that she couldn't escape. Miu couldn't bear it anymore.

"STOP!" she cried, full of desperation. Miyako turned at her. Her anger flared in her eyes, but she listened. Miu took a deep breath.

"You have misunderstood me. I was always your friend. However, you were correct in a way. I have always kept a secret away from you. A secret away from my family as well. That secret was..." Miu's voice lowered. "was... that I have psychic abilities, and I... and I foresaw... your death."
