This is the Boötes void. Voids like this exist in our universe large spaces of empty space but there are super voids like the Boötes void which is the largest super void currently discovered.

Now looking at this picture doesn't look so bad until you realize all of the galaxies in this picture is either in front or behind the it so far we've only found about 60 galaxies in the Boötes void now imagine being an advanced civilization in one of these galaxies in the Boötes Void the possible nearest civilization in another galaxy would be millions of light years away and looking threw a telescope to look out side of your galaxy you would more than likely see complete darkness or see what we see on earth I do not know nor will I ever know nor will the human race will know
