It'll be okay
Bunny (Butters × Kenny)
Warning: Bullies, injuries and abusive parents.
16:01
Kenny walked around the corner, spotting a small figure curled into a tight, shaking ball. Seeing the turquoise zip up jacket, he knew it was Butters.
He walked towards him, the fresh snow crunching beneath his weight. Butters' head snapped up in fear, his gorgeous baby blue eyes wide in shock and terror.
His clothes were torn and muddy, one of his eyes starting to swell shut.
Kenny crouched beside him, moving his light blonde hair from his face. It uncovered a scar from the child's past. Kenny had always felt bad for that day in the park. He never meant to hurt his friend, luckily the smaller boy already forgave him.
"Hey, who did this?" Kenny's voice was muffled from behind his bright orange parka.
Butters sniffled and turned away from him.
"Come on man, you know I won't do anything to them unless you want me to."
With more coaxing from Kenny, Butters turned back and he could see stained tracks running down his cheeks. He sat with him and took off his parka, draping it loosely over the smaller boy. He grasped it and pulled it taught.
They sat in silence for a while, the cold air making them sit closer to one another. After a long silence the younger spoke. "Trent. It was Trent." He leant into Kenny's side. "He got out and he blamed me again. I didn't even do anything that time."
"I know you didn't." Kenny rubbed his arm up and down Butters' back to reassure him. "What did he do?"
"He, he called me a liar. He said that I was the reason he got put back in juvenile hall."
Kenny didn't fill the silence.
"He pushed me, and he kept me pinned to the floor. I tried to get away but he pulled me back. He left quickly after that." He chewed on his lip for a minute before pulling out his phone.
The screen was shattered and the case broken in two. Miraculously, it still worked. The phone lit up and displayed the time, 15:39. Butters' eyes widened in fear. His body stiffened and his breathing became laboured.
"Butters?"
"I was supposed to be home two hours ago." His hands trembled and the phone fell into the snow. "Mr Stotch is going to be so mad."
"You mean your dad?"
"Oh gee Ken, I'm not allowed to call him that anymore. I lost that privilege."
This took Kenny aback. He knew that Butters' parents could be strict, but not allowing their son to call them his family? That seemed too far. He stood and offered a hand. Butters took it and stood, his legs weak and his face becoming pale. It looked as if he were about to fall over. He swayed to the side and let himself give in to the pain. Kenny caught him as he fell. "Okay, I'm taking you to mine. You need to be patched up."
"But Mr Stotch-"
"I'll cover for you. Right now we need to clean some of those cuts." Butters opened his mouth to protest further but quickly closed it again. "Okay Ken. But, try and make it quick."
He wrapped an arm around Kenny's neck and was led to the fallen ruins of a house that once was.
~~~
"Ow!"
"Keep still. I know it hurts." He gently swabbed the area with a saline solution, it stung and probably wasn't the best remedy but it kept away infection. He took a step back.
The two were sat in Kenny's room, Butters resting on the bed. The kid was in bad shape.
For a moment Kenny puzzled over what he could do for the forming black eye. He left the room to grab a rag and poured water on it. They house didn't have running water so they made do with water bottles.
When he arrived back Butters was trying to stand up. He leant against the door frame, amused. "You aren't going anywhere quick Leo." The boy's head jerked up, he hadn't heard his real name for years. It was strangely comforting.
"Ken, I have to get home."
"Leo," he warned. "You need to get cleaned up first. And let me take a look at your stomach."
"Kenneth McCormick you take me home this instant." Kenny jumped at the formality and ferocity in the younger's voice. He regained his composure and set his shoulder on the edge of the frame.
"Fine. But let me sort out your eye first."
"Kenny."
"Leo."
The two blondes stared at each other moment.
"Kiss me." Well that took a turn. Kenny cocked his eyebrow. "What?"
"Did I stutter? Kiss me." With a small sigh, Kenny walked over to him. He pressed his lips against Leo's good cheek. "Kenny. You know what I mean."
"Dude, if your parents find out I'll be murdered."
"No you won't."
"Fine, fine." He pressed his pink lips against Leo's, holding the back of his neck gently, pushing themselves further into the kiss. Leo pushed against his hips, letting Kenny's arm wrap around his slender frame. He was the first to pull back.
"Thank you." He bit his bottom lip. "Could, could we do this more often?"
"As long as I'm not patching up injuries all the time, sure thing." Leo stifled a small laugh.
Kenny studied his jacket for a moment. The cuffs were torn where they were attached to the main sleeve and one of the pockets had nearly come off from where Trent had ripped it. "Want me to fix that up for you?"
"Gee, I don't have a spare on me." Kenny thought for a moment before walking over to his broken closet. He rummaged around for a bit but found an old black hoodie, from his goth phase. "You could borrow this for a bit, I could probably get your jacket back to you in a day or so."
"You, you really would?"
Kenny beamed at the boy, "Of course I will. I know a thing or two about sewing. Remember that dumb Lord of the Rings game we played?" Leo nodded.
"I made the Princess Kenny outfit myself."
His mouth dropped open. "Really? The dress too?"
"All hand sewn by yours truly."
"Gee Ken. That's so cool! Thanks for helping me out. Would you want anything for it?"
Kenny took Leo's hand in his own. "Free of charge. Granted I still get to see you."
"I'd sneak out any time for you."
"Or I could sneak in." He looked at him, fondness in his amber eyes.
"I love you Leo."
"I love you too Kenny."
~~~
They set back off to Leo's house, Kenny bracing himself to step in if his parents tried to hurt Leo. Before he could even knock, Stephen Stotch flung open the door. "Where the hell have you been?"
"Well, I was. You see Trent, he erm. He-" He's a complete stuttering mess. Kenny squeezes his hand reassuringly, talking a step forward. "He was with me sir. I found him crying and sat in the cold. He has some cuts and marks from where he was assaulted so I took him to my house to patch him up." Kenny's free hand curls into a fist. "In fact," he began. "He was sat right here, covered in his own blood. Let me guess, he lost the privilege of being let back in the house?" Leo pulled on his hand, a silent plea to stop. He obliged and clamped his mouth shut.
The tall man stood in the doorway bent to stare at Kenny directly in the eyes. They burnt with fire and passion. "Don't tell me how to parent, boy. Now go crawl back to your filthy house, with your filthy family so they can have another child." He grabbed Leo roughly by the collar and pulled him in the house, slamming the door.
Kenny took that as a sign to leave. He sighed.
Only God knows what would happen to Butters now.
