Chapter Three. The beach.
The morning was like every other one. Slow going. I got out of bed and checked the time. Nine thirty two. Nothing better than that. Putting on my shirt, I walked down the stairs to the first floor. Then creeping into the kitchen, I found my mother looking into her coffee with a deep depressed face. How I hate it when times like this happen. Dad is currently ringing in her mind. And all the memories come racing in of all the time they spent together. It just upsets me to see her like this.
"Oh, how I miss you." Mom said, signaling that she was done daydreaming of Dad.
I walked in and sat across the table from her. She looked up from her coffee and smiled. "Good morning, Red." She whispered just loud enough so that I could hear.
"Morning." I replied. We sat there in silence and looked at each other. Typical morning routine. Get up, look at mom while she drinks her coffee.
"Red, I was thinking we could do something special being that it's summer break now. What do you think?" Mom asked.
"Yeah that would be nice. A few days away from the life of a house." I said, not really knowing what I was saying or what it meant. I just woke up so talking isn't one on my strong suits.
"I was thinking that we could go to the beach. Ride the waves, cook hot dogs, and sleep under the stars in the woods." Mom listed things off.
"We haven't had a day like that in years." I agreed to this plan of going to the beach and staying for a while. And with that we got ready to go.
Cars take forever! On the way to the beach and I'm stuck sitting in a car. And I hate cars. But the beach was only a few minutes away so I shouldn't have to wait any longer then I already have. Which is good.
We got out of the car and walked along the path down to the beach. The forest trees have grown bigger over the past few years. I wonder how big Jessica has gotten? Just so you know, when I was younger I had a tree. It was small and I liked it. So I named it. Like any other little kid would do.
I saw her and she was a beauty. She's grown taller sense the last time I've seen her. And she was about as tall as a door. Like a house door. Not a car, or dog, or, well you get the point. She got bigger.
We walked and joked around and talked about things that we could do while I stay home over the summer. And also other school options. I wasn't very into that topic. We talked about books and other things and finally, we heard the waves breaking the beach.
We climbed over the drift wood and saw a beautiful sight. Small islands and giant rocks jutting out of the water. Waves splashing the beach with all their might, and carrying things in and out of the beach. Rocks, wood, and other things that it could grasp.
"Ready to start swimming?" Mom asked as she joined my onto of a log.
"I'm ready for anything." I said and ran into the water. The rest of the day was pretty much the same. Swimming, eating lunch, waiting, swimming, more swimming, eating, swimming, coming in for a break, last swim, go into a tent. And I fell asleep with all the fun I had. My legs couldn't even take a single step after all of the swimming I've done. I was ready to pass out.
Sorry this chapter was shorter then the others. I had no clue on what was going to happen in this chapter. It was really straight forward. Swimming, and falling asleep. But don't worry, it's about to get good. :P
