Chapter 5; Not All Annoying

Your P.O.V.

"(L/n)!" Ashido and Kaminari ran to my desk, papers in hand.

"How'd you guys do?" I let my cheek rest on my hand. They both smiled and held up their test papers. Ashido received eighty-six percent and Kaminari received ninety percent. "No way, congrats guys!" I laughed as they triumphantly high-fived.

"I guess you helping us study really helped." Jirou turned in her seat, sliding her paper onto my desk. The other two fell silent as I picked up her paper, a proud smile falling onto my face after seeing the ninety-eight percent written in red pen.

"What'd you get?" They looked at me expectantly. I picked up my bag and shuffled through my folders before pulling out my test. They all looked at my paper and their faces dropped.

"Of course." Jirou hung her head.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked placing my test back in its rightful place.

"Well it only makes sense you got full marks. You helped us study because you're at the top of the class...-" As soon as the words left Kaminari's mouth I felt my doom coming. Bakugou sat a few seats ahead of me and he had heard every word.

"Thank you, Kaminari." I stood my ground although I knew the pomeranian was about to explode.

"Everyone should have their tests back and be in their seats." Aizawa glanced at Kaminari and Ashido making both of them rush to their seats. "Thank you. Now, as most of you know, you've all been chosen to be in 1-A for a reason. That main reason being your skills as performers. Some of you: classically trained. Other's just naturally good at playing. After lunch you will find a piece of music and study it. No, it does not need to be a classical piece. You just need a performance piece. Yes, you can have a backtrack if it's a popular song. You can ask a classmate to play alongside you, but it will only count for the current student. Both performers have to perform their own pieces." He spoke with the same bored and tired tone as usual. Quickly after he gave us our instructions, the lunch bell rang. We all stood from our seats and left the classroom, finding our usual lunch groups.

"Hey, (Y/n), Ojiro asked me to sit with him today. Sorry." Hagakure pointed to the taller boy waiting for her down the hallway.

"Oh, don't be." I smiled and watched her run off with more enthusiasm than normal.

"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" Jirou slung an arm around my shoulder, staring at the two.

"Yup." I sighed. "It's obvious." I glanced at her then over to the table she usually sat at.

"What's today's challenge, (L/n)?" She released me and stood in front of me.

"I'm going to find a General Studies student today. Five bucks says I can." I had been betting Jirou that I could make friends from other courses every lunch for the rest of the month. So far I was winning.

"Ten says you can't, my dear friend." She held out her hand.

"Fifteen even, take it or leave it." I held out my own hand.

"Deal." She shook and we parted ways. I got my lunch first, mainly just a rice bowl and a strawberry milk, and started my search for a general studies student.

"(L/n)!" Someone from one of the ensemble tables waved at me. It was Hatsume, which was interesting but what's the harm in asking where a specific student is.

"Do you happen to know where any of the General Studies students are?" I asked.

"They sit on the far end of the cafeteria, but don't think they'll be easy to talk to. Some of them don't like the performance courses." She whispered the last part but directed me to their table.

"Thanks, Hatsume." I nodded and made my way to their table.

"Shouldn't you be sitting with the other performance courses?" A boy with indigo hair and eye bags that could rival Aizawa's looked up from his book as I took a seat opposite of him.

"No, I'm at the right table." I shook my head. "(Y/n) (L/n)." I held my hand out to him.

"Hitoshi Shinsou." He mumbled, refusing my handshake.

"Well then, Shinsou. Why are you in General Studies instead of a performance course?" I initiated a conversation trying to make a friend.

"I didn't make it into the Classical Course." He sighed.

"Hmm. Well you have a chance to prove you should be there during the showcase." I pointed out.

"If I get that chance." His eyes returned to the pages in his book. I tilted my head to read the cover.

"'The Picture of Dorian Gray?' A bit dark, don't you think?" I looked up meeting his eyes. He shrugged and continued reading. "You don't talk much do you?" I placed my cheek on my hand waiting for his answer.

"It's easier just to stay focused instead of wasting time 'making friends' here." His words shocked me to say the least. I put my hand over my heart and scoffed.

"Well it's easier to be nice to people and get through high school without being so depressed." I rolled my eyes.

"Can I read in peace, please?" His tone became more frustrated.

"I dunno, can you?" I crossed my arms over my chest, sitting up straight.

"Why're you here anyways?" He finally stopped reading and placed a bookmark to save his place before closing his book.

"I just wanted to make a friend around U.A. Is that a bad thing?" I furrowed my brow.

"I just wanna know why you're here instead of with your friends." He looked around the cafeteria as if looking for something.

"Because my friends have their usual lunch groups and I think it's nice to have more than one place to sit for lunch." I looked over his shoulder at the table I usually sat at when I didn't have a deal with Jirou.

"So what are you getting out of this?" He asked bringing my attention back to him.

"A friend of mine doesn't think I can make friends with students in other courses so she challenges me. Sometimes it's a deal other times it's not." I explained hoping he wouldn't think I was rude. He chuckled softly, thoroughly confusing me. "What's so funny?"

"Your brutal honesty." He bluntly stated. "You didn't try to sugarcoat the fact this was a deal." He smirked.

"Why would I lie? That's not how you make friends." I shrugged.

"Fine. You win." He held his hands up in surrender. "You may be annoying but at least you're worth-while." I smiled until I processed what he said.

"Hey!" I whined. "I'm not annoying!" I protested.

"Not like the other Performance Course students." He mumbled.

"I'm in 1-A, and we're not that bad. Well maybe Bakugou...but other than that we're not all rude and annoying." I was actually winning this. 'Jirou you owe me.' "If you ever feel like sitting with us don't be afraid to ask. We're just over there." I pointed at the table halfway down the cafeteria.

"Who's the ash blonde staring us down?" He looked back at me. I looked to see what he meant and sure enough, Bakugou was staring me down. Practically murdering me without leaving his seat.

"That's...Bakugou." I awkwardly sunk in my seat trying to escape his gaze.

"The violinist everyone's always talking about?" Shinsou looked back over his shoulder.

"Mm-hmm." I nodded.

"What's that guy's deal? He looks like he's either devouring you with his eyes or thinking of ways to hide the body." He snickered. I was about to question his choice of words but decided against it when I locked eyes with Bakugou again. He wasn't wrong, sadly. 'Why did he have to be right? I already felt like dying but now it's just awkward.' I broke the staring contest between us and put my head on the table.

"I think he hates me." I moved my head and put my chin on the table instead.

"The look he's giving you would make sense." He agreed with me. I groaned and closed my eyes trying not to think about it.

"Hey, Shinsou, what do you play? You said you wanted to get into the Classical Music Course but didn't make it." I asked sitting back up. He looked at the table, a light pink dusting his cheeks. "Well?" I pushed for an answer. He mumbled something but I didn't quite catch it. "What was that?" I asked innocently.

"I-...play piano..." He mumbled shyly. My face lit up and I leaned over the table.

"Really?!" I asked excitedly, earning a nod from him as he avoided all eye contact. "That's awesome so do I!" I gave him a bright smile.

"I know...you placed second after Izuku Midoriya..." He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing up at me then back to the table.

"Oh..hehe...I forgot everyone could look at our scores..." I sat back down and looked back at my table. To my surprise Bakugou wasn't staring at me. It was Kaminari, but he quickly looked away acting like it never happened. "Hmm, that's weird. He usually waves when that happens." I thought outloud. The bell notifying us lunch was over rang and I quickly finished off my uneaten food.

"It was great meeting you, (L/n)." He rubbed the back of his neck again.

"You too, Shinsou." I smiled and noticed I still had some strawberry milk left. "Hey, you want this? I wasn't gonna finish it." I asked, holding out the carton.

"A-are you sure? You paid for it so you should finish it." He turned down my offer.

"If you don't want it I can give it to someone else." I stood up and waited for Shinsou.

"I'd rather not take something you paid good money for." He grabbed his book and stood from his seat.

"Oh well." I shrugged. "I'll see you later." I waved and ran off to find my classmates.

"Let me guess-" Jirous started.

"Hitoshi Shinsou, applied for both Classical Music Course and General Studies, didn't make it into the Classical Course, obviously, plays piano, and is going to try to transfer into 1-A or 1-B through the Showcase." I beat her to it.

"When do you want it?" She sighed.

"Friday." I nodded and went to find someone who wanted the strawberry milk I bought. "Kaminari! Do you want this?" I asked, holding up the pink and white carton.

"Seriously?" He walked up to me and took the carton, examining it.

"Yeah, I wasn't gonna finish it and I'd hate to waste it." I explained.

"What'd you do to it?" He eyed me suspiciously.

"Bought it, drank a third of it, then offered it to you." I counted on my fingers.

"If I die, I'm gonna kill you." He unfolded the top and chugged the rest of the milk. I watched in disgust as he finished it and wiped his mouth with his uniform sleeve, leaving a light pink stain. "What?" He asked.

"That was disgusting and you just stained your uniform. Congratulations." I hesitantly patted his shoulder and walked to class.

I took my seat, not wanting to waste any time looking for a piece for our test. Slowly, my classmates flowed into the classroom. I took out one of my folders from my bag and began sifting through the papers. I knew I had some good sheet music that I could use tomorrow. I just needed to find something.

"(L/n), what piece were you gonna use for tomorrow?" Midoriya leaned over in his seat.

"No idea." I continued to look through my sheet music. "You?" I glanced over at him.

"I was actually wondering if you had any good suggestions." He laughed nervously.

"I might be able to help after school today." I tried to think of anything I might need to do but I had time to spare. "Meet me after the bell at the front gates." He gave me a thumbs up.

"What d'you guys think of this?" Hagakure slammed a piece of sheet music on my desk as she came in with Jirou.

"Are you sure?" I asked looking at the score.

"Positive." She nodded.

"You're gonna need to practice so much." I snickered.

"You say that like I don't practice ever." She pouted.

"I never said that." I defended myself.

"Class has started." Aizawa forced us to cut our conversations short.

"Sensei, are there any other rules we haven't been informed of for our performance pieces?" Ida was obviously going to ask a million questions so I zoned out.

I was staring out the window but saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked over to see Kaminari placing a piece of folded paper on my desk. I gave him an annoyed look but he had already turned back around. I picked up the paper and read what was written on the outside.

'If you need a piece for tomorrow, check out some of these.'

'Idiot.' I shook my head and unfolded the paper. It was a list of songs that I could easily find the sheet music for. I folded the paper back and dropped it into my bag.

"Thanks." I whispered, leaning on my desk so he could hear me. He barely looked over his shoulder with a smile.

"Goes for you and anyone who needs help." He whispered trying to seem like he was paying attention to Aizawa.

I nodded with a sincere smile and sat back down. The rest of class went by and once the bell rang I was one of the first out the door. I wanted to find Shinsou before meeting Midoriya, and lucky for me I saw the familiar indigo hair leaning against a wall on his phone.

"Shinsou!" I shouted, bouncing up to him.

"(L/n)." He glanced down at me looking confused and suspicious.

"Midoriya and I were gonna meet up at the gate and look for a piece to perform if you wanted to come with us." I offered.

"Wouldn't that be for class? I have homework and I'm sure you two are really busy." He shifted his weight and stood upright.

"Don't worry about it! We were just going to look through sheet music to find something." I started walking and gestured for him to follow.

"I'd just get in the way of you guys' work." He mumbled while walking with me.

"You wanted to be in the Classical Course right? Well this is a great chance to know more than just one of us." I grabbed his arm and ran towards the gates, seeing the other boy waiting for me. "Sorry I'm a bit late. I had to convince him to come." I pulled the taller boy forward.

"It's fine, I wasn't waiting very long." He waved at the two of us.

"This is Hitoshi Shinsou, he's trying to transfer into our class through the showcase." I introduced him and we started walking.

"He could take Mineta's place if he ever gets kicked out." Midoriya pointed out.

"If only." I shook my head. "I doubt that he'd get kicked out any time soon. But maybe after Shinsou kills it in the showcase they'll have to open up a spot for him." I laughed.

"Whose place would I be taking?" Shinsou looked at us confused.

"The short purple haired boy that's always being a pervert around the girls at school." I quickly explained. "I don't even know how he got into our class. Anytime I've heard him play it seems like he's not putting in any effort. It kinda gets on my nerves." I ranted.

"You seem to care more than Aizawa-sensei." Midoriya laughed a bit.

"Because I do!" I huffed looking at Shinsou. "If you were in our class, I wouldn't be like this." I rolled my eyes with a smirk.

"I'm not even in your class yet you're treating me like I am." Shinsou had a skeptical smirk lazily draped across his features.

"Why wouldn't we?" I asked, adjusting my bag over my shoulder as we waited for the train.

"Because I'm in General Studies." He looked at the two of us.

"That doesn't mean you're any different from us." Midoriya studied the purple haired boy.

"And who knows." I stood up on the bench. "Hitoshi Shinsou, by graduation you will be a 1-A Classical Music Course student." I pointed at him.

"We will stop at nothing." Midoriya nodded and stood next to me.

"Classical Course students are weird." He shook his head and turned to face the tracks, acting like he didn't know us.

"Don't be so mean Shinsou." I pouted like a child and jumped down.

"I'm not being mean." He looked down at me.

I crossed my arms over my chest and slowly swayed from one side to the other. Soon after Midoriya joined in, leaving Shinsou to stand there awkwardly. We did this until the train showed up, quickly boarding and hanging onto the ceiling anchors.

I got bored and looked up, getting a possibly bad idea. I glanced at Midoriya with a smile showing I had an idea. He looked up from his phone, furrowing his eyebrows at first before shaking his head and mouthing a 'no.' I nodded and looked back up. The train wasn't very full so I could do what I wanted without having to worry about other people.

"(L/n), we're going to get in trouble." Midoriya finally said something alerting Shinsou.

"If we get caught." I smirked and jumped up grabbing another anchor.

"What is she doing?" Shinsou looked to Midoriya for answers. Midoriya just sighed and looked back at his phone.

"I'm being a kid again." I smiled and started swinging on the anchors. I jumped down again and glared at the taller boy. "You should try it sometime. Maybe you won't look so unapproachable." I scrunched up my face and turned around. Midoriya wasn't paying attention so I took his distraction to my advantage and jumped on his back.

"Ah- (L/n). Be careful." He yelped, using his free hand to hold me up.

"Kaminari gave me a list of songs we could use!" I remembered. I got down and pulled my bag to the front of my torso. I unzipped it and started digging through all of my folders, eventually finding the folded paper. "Here, check this out." I unfolded it and the two boys looked over my shoulder at the paper.

"Hallelujah is an easy song..." Midoriya continued to mumble about the list.

"Mido, you're mumbling again." I brushed him off as he covered his mouth.

"Sorry." His apology was muffled but nonetheless we scanned over the list picking out certain songs.

"I have the sheet music for some of these already if you wanted to borrow it." I pointed out a few of the songs.

"Great! We can look through all of them and find something." Midoriya smiled and we both looked at Shinsou.

"What?" He asked looking back at us.

"Do you want to look through my music and find something good for the showcase?" I asked, folding the paper back up.

"But the showcase is weeks away." He fidgeted with his bag strap.

"It doesn't hurt to be prepared." Midoriya spoke before me.

"It's always better to practice now instead of starting at the deadline." I added.

"I'll think about it." He said with an unsure tone.

"Perfect!" I cheered as the train came to a stop.

I pulled both of the boys along with me as I walked home. We spent the next two hours looking through sheet music and having random conversations. We each found a great piece and took turns playing them. Midoriya left a bit early to catch a train and Shinou waited until his dad picked him up.
