"Remus, are you alright?"
You stopped walking when you noticed your friend had stopped walking with you. His eyes were on you, but there was something glistening in them that you could not fathom. It was warm, and it was directed to you, but you did not know what it was.
Remus smiled as he stared at you, sending blood rushed towards your face. You gestured him to follow you, and he nodded, murmuring something under his breath that was inaudible to your ears.
"Pardon?"
You frowned, not catching his words. Remus shook his head, starting to walk along with you, a genuine smile was painted on his face. You could feel there was something he was hiding from you, but you did not ask anything, as it was obvious that he did not want you to know.
"Before you meet Snape, did you really believe in soulmates?"
He hesitated, worried if he was offending you with his question. But upon seeing your smile, he breathed of relief, knowing that you had no problems to talk about your exceptional bond with your soulmate.
"I have always believed in it. When I first learned about it, I was over the moon. I knew that there was someone waiting for me, somewhere in this world, and even if I did not know who he was, I have learned to love him right from the start."
You revealed, smiling weakly as you realised how foolish were you to fall in love with your soulmate when you were younger, only to be rejected once you finally found him. But you knew Remus did not think it was imprudent, as he understood your point of view.
"I almost lost faith in my soulmate."
Remus said, and you raised your eyebrows, waiting for his next words. His smile only widen, seeing how invested you were to hear his story.
"I went through many difficult years alone, thinking that I did not deserve a soulmate. So unlike you, I never fell in love with my soulmate because I was convinced that the universe will never blessed me with one."
There was pain hidden in his voice, but you could hear it, no matter how hard he tried to mask it with a smile on his face. He was carrying his burden alone for so long, and your heart was aching for him, wishing that he would get the happiness that he deserved.
"But you were wrong, Remus. You deserve a soulmate. We all do."
Your words sent warmth wrapped around his heart. He chuckled under his breath, realising how kind your heart was, and you were too pure to be tainted by this corrupted world.
"I was wrong. I finally found her when I was at the lowest point of my life, where I thought giving up was the only way."
You could tell from the way he was talking, that Remus fell head over heels for his soulmate, and you wondered how wonderful it would be if Severus was in love with you just like how you were in love with him.
"I fell in love with her at the first sight, actually."
Your smile turned into a grin when your friend chuckled heartily, his eyes were gleaming as he talked about his soulmate. There was no doubt that Remus was smitten with her.
"But she is in love with another so there is no point of thinking about it."
He quickly added, a tight smile was growing on his face. You did not know what to say, as it hurt you as well to know that you were in the same situation as him, if not worse.
"You're right. As for me, I just wish that someday Severus will look at me and sees forever in me."
You bit the inside of your cheeks, your heart was bleeding with love, as your eyes were filled with tears. Remus put his hand on your back, comforting you with a smile. He walked you back to your room, watching as you close the door and he was left alone again.
Staring at your door, the professor's smile dropped, as reality hit him hard that you would never know the truth about who Remus was to you. It was an uncommon situation to happen, but it was possible, and it was happening to you.
"I already see forever in your eyes, Y/N."

Severus was heartsick, noticing that you were ignoring him all day. Not even once did you look at him, let alone talk to him like you always did. You were acting like everything was fine that no one could tell what was going on between you and him, and it was slowly killing him inside.
He had to see you walking gracefully across the halls, without having you greeting him happily like usual. He had to hear your laughs which were not caused by him but by your other colleagues. You were living your life like you normally did, but Severus was devastated.
It was not that he did not like to see you happy, but he would prefer for you to argue with him as long as he got to see you and talk to you, rather than to have you pretending as if he never existed in your life.
It was extremely painful for him, and it felt like his soul was shredded into pieces when you walked pass him, without sparing him a glance. He missed you so much and he had to talk to you.
But he knew it was the last thing you wanted when you tried to slam your office door on his face. Severus was quick enough to stop you from doing so, waltzing into your office, hiding a plethora of feelings that were swimming in his chest.
"I need to talk to you."
"I don't want to talk, Professor Snape."
Severus almost winced as his title as a teacher rolled out of your tongue, not liking the fact that you were not saying his name. His heart was yearning for you, and yet you could not even look at him, and say his name.
"Please forgive me, Y/N. I didn't mean what I said."
He started, hoping that you would find it in your heart to forgive him. He knew he made a mistake, but he really regretted it and there was no way he would hurt you on purpose.
"You said it, Severus. It must have been in your mind for awhile now."
You scoffed, finally looking him in the eyes. Severus felt the insane thumping of his heartbeat, missing the look in your eyes even if it was just only a day being away from you.
"I'm really sorry. I would do anything to ask for your forgiveness, Y/N. I would do anything, as long as you do not let us go."
Severus poured his heart, his voice was wavering as nerves wrecked his body. You saw how sincere he was, but you were still hurt, and you would never know if it was one of his empty promises.
"Let us go? There is no us, Severus."
His heart shattered at your words, and he could not believe that you were giving up on your unbreakable bond. You clenched your jaw, holding back your tears as you knew you it was not true, but you had to say it to make him realise how exhausted you were with this constant argument you had with him.
He was walking closer to you, and you backed away from him, not wanting him to touch you when you were at the point of either breaking into tears alone or running into his arms with a smile. Both options were not the best for you, as Severus came closer, adamant to apologise.
"Let me feel as hurt as you, Y/N. But please forgive me."
"You're just going to hurt me again, Severus."
You and him continued to argue, tears threatening to spill from your eyes and the words of confession was so close to rolling out of Snape's tongue.
"Perhaps it would be better if we just never met!"
You snapped, pushing him away from you. Your eyes grew wide when you saw his face dropped, and you realised that you had gone too far. You never wanted that to happen. If you could turn back time, you would still want to see him all over again, even if it would only meant that you would be hurt twice.
"Listen to me, Y/N. I care about you."
He hissed, pushing you against the wall. You gasped, feeling his hot breath on your face as he held his arms beside your head, trapping you with his tall frame. Your heart was beating rapidly against your ribcage at the close proximity, staring into his dark eyes.
"I care about you."
He whispered, cursing himself for unable to say that he loved you, and not as in he was caring about you just as a friend. He wanted to tell you more, but he could not. He did not have way with his words, and it was one of his flaws.
You slowly relaxed under his intense gaze, feeling yourself melted in his arms as he leaned closer towards your face. He was too close to you, that you could hear his heartbeat, mimicking your fast rhythm, as you were starting to feel dizzy when you realised you were pressed together against the wall.
You could just pull him in for a kiss, or you could just wait for him to kiss you as you knew the thought of kissing you was lingering on his mind. You were not wrong, as it was exactly what Severus was thinking about, including the word of love which was flooding into his head, begging him to say it to you.
But then a wave of realisation slammed into you, and you realised he had your heart in his hands, and you did not want him to play around with you again. You were not sure if he was capable to reciprocate your feelings, and he had broken your heart for so many times that you were becoming numb.
"No, you don't."
You lamented, thinking that Severus was trying to hurt you again, as he only cared for you as a friend, and nothing more. You loved him with all of your heart, that you refused to to be used, as if you were a toy who had no feelings at all.
"You don't care about anyone else but yourself."
You said, pushing him off you as you walked out of your office, glad that your classes had ended for the day. You had no desire to work in there anymore as you could feel your emotions getting the best of you and you had to retreat to your room as soon as possible before you could say something you might regret.
Severus was left with his thoughts, his feelings were scrambling inside of his chest, finding a way to coax him. He was so dejected, as he was close to confessing his love and telling you how much you meant to him. But all that was left was him and his lonely heart, longing for you.
