"Y/N, why is Lupin in your room?"
You felt as if you were one of his students who was causing problems around the school ground, when Severus used his authority tone of voice with you, which you had not heard for a long time now. It baffled you when his nerves turned into anger, in a matter of a second when he saw Remus.
"Last night was full moon, Severus."
You said, expecting him to understand what was happening to Lupin. But when he cocked his eyebrow, you sighed, realising that he wanted to hear more about it. You owed him no explanation, but you could not help but explain the situation to him.
"Remus was hurt so he came to me. I'm only helping him."
You added, and only by then Severus noticed that the other professor was injured, and he was not sitting in your bed intentionally. However, it did not help the aching of his heart, and he was puzzled with how calm you were to have Remus there in your room.
"Why didn't he go to the hospital wing?"
He inquired, holding back a scowl. You frowned, annoyed that he was questioning you like you were a student who should be investigated for her wrongdoing. The challenging look on his face was not helping it either, and you did not want to argue with him so early in the morning.
"I'm not dealing with this right now, Severus."
"But you're willing to deal with Lupin?"
He scoffed, and you shook your head in disbelief. He was acting extremely strange and you were tired of him being angry every time Remus was there.
"He is in pain, Severus."
You could not believe that you were arguing about Remus, once again, and it was too early for you to be filled with anger. You did not want to ruin your day just because of a petty argument with your soulmate.
Severus knew you were worried about Remus, and he thought that you were too kind that sometimes he despised it. You cared too much about others until you did not realise their real intentions towards you.
"Why did you want to see me?"
Your eyes softened at him, thinking that he must have an urgent matter to talk to you that he was there. You wanted to stop talking about Remus, knowing that it would only ignite argument with him.
Severus was stunned at your question, and suddenly his courage to tell you about his true feelings was flushed down the drains. He loved you, and he wanted to tell you, but he was not sure if it was the right time anymore since his plan changed drastically when he saw Lupin in your room.
"You can tell me anything, Severus."
Your voice was no longer strained, as you could see Severus' demeanours changed immediately. He looked at you, his heart was spiralled in love and adoration for you, but as he moved his gaze towards the other professor, a frown was etched on his face.
"I'll see you later, Y/N."
He gave you a nod, and the sadness in his eyes did not go unnoticed by you. Before he could leave, you grabbed his wrist, stopping him dead on his tracks. You wondered what was on his mind, and he was acting really weird that morning.
"What's wrong?"
Your voice was so sweet and gentle, as if you were afraid to hurt him with your words, but then he reminded himself that you were talking that way to Remus too and there was nothing special about it. Perhaps you were just being kind to him, just like how you were being kind to Remus.
He shook his head, and he sent you a small smile, leaving you with questions in your head. You watched as he leaves, guilt hung over you as you pondered if you were hurting his feelings without you even realising it.
Severus wanted to deny his love for you, since he saw how infatuated you were with Lupin, but he could not. His mind was telling him to distance himself from you, perhaps he would not be hurt by doing so but his heart was yearning for you.
He could not bring himself to hate you again, as every time you smiled at him from across the hall, his heart fluttered in a way it had never been before. It was such a heavenly feeling that Severus did not want to let go of.
He knew how much soulmates meant to you, but he was not so sure if you were still in love with him, after all he had done to hurt you in the past. He was haunted by the thought of you thinking of him as a friend and nothing more than that, since it was what he decided for your relationship with him.
He was not used to people falling in love with him, and to know that you had loved him for years was such a blessing. And he would be anguished if you ever tell him that your love for him was gone now.
Thus, Severus went on his days, convincing himself that what he saw that morning was nothing more but your act of kindness towards your colleague. He pretended as if everything was fine around you, as he never wanted you to worry so much about him but every time you left, Severus was alone with hollow space in his heart again, longing to be filled with your love.
He could only hope that your friendship with him would remain strong, until the time when he felt was right to confess to you about his love.
However, that day, Severus could not help himself as he saw you and Lupin walking from the library together. You looked so happy with him, and Severus could see the look in Lupin's eyes, so loving and enchanted with you. Severus curled his hands in fists, he just wanted to murder the lycanthrope if that was not a crime.
As he heard your laughter, he saw Remus put his hand on the small of your back, and it was enough to send jealousy burning in his chest. Before he could stop himself, he already walked over to you, dismissing the bitter look on Lupin's face when he came.
"Severus, what are you doing?"
Your voice was dripping with worry when he grabbed your wrist, almost dragging you to his classroom. You had never seen him so furious before, and it truly scared you as you followed him, trying to match his pace.
You flinched when Severus shut his classroom door, taking you by surprise. He was still holding your wrist, his grip loosened. He could see shock and fear in your eyes, and guilt washed over him as he never wanted you to be scared of him.
"You're hurting me, Severus."
He quickly let go of your wrist, and he turned his back on you, cursing himself for letting his foolish feelings took over himself.
"You are hurting me, Y/N."
He said, almost in a whisper, but loud enough for you to hear him. You frowned, moving over to stand in front of him, and it pained you to see him with his head low, as if he was not able to look you in the eyes.
"I'm sorry."
He muttered, and you shook your head, wanting to know what was upsetting him so much.
"If this is about Remus, I assure you there is nothing for you to be worried about. I'm fine around him."
You thought he was worried for your safety around the werewolf, but when he looked at you with devastation in his eyes, you knew it was more than that.
"How would you feel if you see your soulmate has another man in her bed?"
He scoffed, watching as your gentle expression turned sour at his question. You shook your head, thinking that he was dropping it behind, but apparently not. He was still pissed off to remember that you had Remus in your room, even after your explanation which you did not owe him at the first place.
"I was helping him, Severus!"
You were getting defensive, anger started to bubble in your chest when your soulmate could not seem to get it out of his head. He was so mad if you were with Remus, that it was starting to suffocate you.
"He is my friend, and I have to help him when he needs me."
"Friend? Are you that naive not to see how he feels for you?"
He gritted his teeth, his anger was matching yours as none of you was stepping down from the rising argument. You were not letting him treat you like he used to before, and not even when he included Remus in your situation.
"Am I not allowed to have friends?"
You crossed your arms against your chest, holding back your rage before you could say something that you might regret later.
"I never said that, Y/N."
"Then what are you implying?"
You hated arguing with him, as it felt like you and him were returning to the past when he could not stand you, and you could not look at him. It was such a painful time, and you never wanted to go through it again.
"Lupin doesn't see you as a friend."
He reasoned, his heart was beating rapidly against his chest when he saw your unimpressed look, as if you did not trust him.
"Why do you care so much about what he feels towards me? You did not want me as your soulmate."
You retorted, allowing yourself to say what you really felt, not letting the argument to reduce into nothing without a solution. If you did not say it now, you knew it would be a routine for you and him to fight about Remus, and you wanted it to stop.
Severus' eyes widen at your words, reminding him that he did not want you as his soulmate. But it was in the past, when he was blinded by his loneliness, until he could not see how meaningful you were to him. He was not expecting you to bring it up now, as he thought both of you had moved past that.
"It doesn't matter to you if Remus sees me as more than a friend."
At least, that was what you think, since he had never loved you. Severus wished he could tell how much he cared about you, and he loved you so much that it pained him to see how lovestruck Lupin was with you, but he could not.
Both of you were bathing in anger, and none of you realised how bad things were going to be if you continued to argue. Severus glared at you, seeing that you were so keen in protecting Lupin instead of him, and he could not stop his mouth as he uttered words that could hurt you.
"You just can't help yourself, can you?"
He mocked, causing you to return his glare with yours, not wanting to surrender to his blind rage.
"What are you talking about?"
You asked, and your heart was screaming at you to stop fighting, as it would turn ugly without you even realising it. You could not believe how something so small as your friendship with Remus became so huge when you argued with your soulmate.
"You are so thirsty for love, being neglected by your own parents, wanting to prove that you are not unlovable like your parents claimed you to be, until you fall in love with every person who shows you some affection. How pathetic."
He was driven by anger, and clearly regretting his words as soon as he saw your face dropped. You could feel the breaking of your heart as he used your insecurities against you, when all you did was trusting him.
"Y/N, you're not—"
"I trust you, Severus."
Severus knew he had hurt you too far, as your whisper got into his ears. The trust that he had built, was crumbling down because of his own doing. He reached for your hands but you stepped away from him, as if his touch would burn you.
"I told you things I never told anyone!"
You were screaming now, and it was so unlike you, that Severus knew you were really angry at him. It was true, you were undeniably furious at him for turning it against you, when you had never told anyone about it.
You were expected to maintain your family's prestigious name, pretending as if you were the perfect daughter they wanted when you suffered alone at home. But you found solitude in Severus, and you told him everything about your life, only for him to mock you about it.
"You just have to rub it on my face that I'm so unlovable."
Your voice was cold, tears started to form in the corner of your eyes. You were not dejected, but you were mad at him. You wanted to lash out on him, but you could not, as your heart was his, and it would forever be that way.
Severus Snape owned your heart and soul, and he kept hurting you again and again, like you had no feelings for him. You loved him so much and yet, he could not see it.
"Y/N, that's not true."
Severus' heart was heavy with guilt when you shook your head, tears of anger rolled down upon your cheeks. He knew you were mad at him, and he would rather for you to scream at him, or even hit him, as long as you were not walking away from him again.
"Don't ever talk to me again, Severus."
You stated sternly, shattering his heart into tiny little pieces. You did not mean it, but you needed your time away from him. Severus did not know that, and it crushed him to know that he was losing you because of his foolish action.
He stared as you left his classroom, and he stood up straight, acting like he was not hurting when he heard his students' loud voices, ready to start their lesson for the day.
They would only think that Professor Snape was not in the mood to teach them that day, as he just assigned them with their task and not even minding to deduct house points from his problematic students. But they would never know that Severus was only thinking about you, afraid if you were not going to forgive him.
