Chapter 40
Jason's POV
I groaned. "What do you want?"
"Babe why are you being mean to me?"
"Because you came to my house unannounced!"
Percy frowned. "It's not like I've never done it before. Are you expecting company or something?"
I threw a shirt at him. "That's none of your business. Now would you get out. Please."
Percy flopped onto the bed with his hand on his head. "Has Jason dearest... replaced me?"
"Oh my gods Perce just get out."
He laughed. "Fine fine. Just tell me how your date with Pipes goes later."
He grinned at me before leaving.
"I- it's not even- oh whatever."
I grabbed the shirt I had just threw at Percy and tossed it in my laundry before tidying up my bed.
I heard a buzz from my phone and picked it up.
Pipes: hey! i was just texting to say that i'm on my way :))
I felt my lips curve upwards as I read her smiley faces.
Jason: Okay I'll see you in a little bit. :)
I thought about it before adding a smiley face at the end of my text.
After clicking send I ran downstairs and while waiting for her to come, I made a quick snack.
"Yo Sparky make me a PB&J."
I groaned. "Thalia why don't you make it yourself."
She looked me dead in the eye. "I asked you to make it."
I huffed. "At least say please."
She gave me an eerie smile. "Fine. Jason, will you please make me a sandwich?"
I rolled my eyes. "Okay. Since you asked ever so nicely."
She snorted. "So I see your picking up Percy's sass."
She mumbled under her breath. "Oh how I love the sass."
I grinned before asking, "What're you even doing home anyways? I thought you were gonna go hangout with Zoe."
"Yeah I was."
I blinked. "Okay and?"
She sighed. "Well if you must know she couldn't make it. So I was planning on going out with Grover later. Maybe Percy too if they aren't already together."
I laughed. "Yeah okay. Just be gone soon I have someone coming over."
Thalia raised a brow.
I heard a buzz from my phone and a few seconds later a knock.
I stuck my tongue out at her before opening the door.
"Hey Piper."
I could feel Thalia staring at me.
"Hey Jason."
... "Um, are you going to let me in?"
I blinked. "Oh yeah yeah. Come in."
She stepped inside and noticed Thalia.
"Oh hey Thals. I didn't know you were gonna be home. Jason said we'd be home alone."
My cheeks turned red as Thali replied, "Oh did he? Interesting. I was just making a pit stop to eat before heading to Grover's."
She stood up before grabbing her keys and her sandwich.
"Well you two kiddos have fun. Be careful now and use protection."
Piper and I grew wide eyed and looked away from each other as Thalia winked and left the house.
I cleared my throat.
"Heh. Uh. What do you want to do?"
She lifted her backpack. "Study?"
I felt my heart deflate a bit but nodded. "Yeah let's go to the couch."
Piper plopped onto the couch and reached for the remote. "Oo you have DisneyPlus! I heard they're making a new show."
I laughed. "Yeah I'm pretty excited about it. It's that book series right? The movie renditions sucked booty."
She snorted. "Definitely. I'm expecting a series that actually resembles the book..."
We both sat on opposite ends of the couch and talked for hours, and honestly didn't get much homework done.
I heard the door creak open as Piper calmed her laughing.
Thalia walked in and was surprised to see Piper still here.
"Hey kids. What are you still doing here? It's almost midnight."
My eyes gaped. That's basically past my bedtime, yet I wasn't even tired. I felt like I could just talk with Piper all night.
And by the looks of her face, she felt the same way.
"Woah I didn't realize." She looked down. "We've barely even gotten anything done."
Thalia raised a brow. "Then what have you been doing for the past few hours?"
"We've just been talking."
She snorted. "Ha! Like I believe that. Whatever. I'm going to bed. You guys are lucky it's a Friday night."
When she left both Piper and I looked at each other.
"Um now what."
She looked down. "I guess it is getting a bit late."
"Yeah it might be time for you to head back home."
I internally cringed as I said that, but there wasn't any way I could tell her to stay.
Piper looked disappointed but nodded. "Yeah my dad will be worried."
She started to get up and leave before turning towards me. "I had a really nice time tonight. We should do it again."
I'm not sure what went over me, maybe it was my tiredness finally kicking in. "Yeah. But without the studying and the interrupting sister. Like a date."
Piper stood there and blinked.
And I immediately regretted saying anything.
Before I could open my mouth she beat me to it.
"Jason, are your asking me on a date?"
I gulped. "Yeah. Yeah I am."
I could see Pipers cheeks tint pink before her giving me a small smile.
"About time you asked Sparky. Of course I'll go on a date with you."
It was my turn to stand and blink. "Wait really?"
She laughed. "Yeah."
I grinned as I irritatingly rubbed my wrist against my shirt, and Piper glanced down, her eyes slightly widened.
"Okay. I'll see you soon then?"
Piper coughed. "Um, yeah. I'll text you."
She waved goodbye before walking out the door.
I felt my heart still racing even after she left.
Woah.
Piper's POV
My heart rate began to escalate as Jason just asked me on a date.
I have to say, I'm surprised. I didn't think he had it in him. At least maybe not at that time.
We'd been talking for hours, but it barely felt like time passed at all.
I was so happy I was finally getting to know Jason.
Because even though I knew him, I rarely knew anything about him.
Until I saw him rubbing his wrist.
Logically it would make sense that the cause of it was because he was one step closer to being with his soulmate, which if you didn't know he just asked me out.
But as I walked out to my car, nothing changed on my wrist.
I think you can sense my confusion.
I groaned and banged my head on the steering wheel, which caused me to honk and the stop sign.
I glanced at my phone, seeing no notifications from my dad.
I rolled my eyes before calling Silena.
"Mm hey Pipes."
"Uh hey Silena. You home?"
She giggled. "Um, no. I'm at Beck's house. Why?"
My face cringed after realizing what I might have interrupted. "Oh nothing it's fine. I'll see you at home in the morning."
I heard Beckendorf's voice through the phone. "Babe get off the phone!"
I rolled my eyes. "Bye."
"Wait are you good Pipes? Why'd you call in the first place?"
I pursed my lips. "I just left Jason's."
I could feel the smile on Silena's lips.
"Oh I see. You can get it sister!"
Even though no one could see me I turned red in embarrassment.
"No! It wasn't like that. It was nice. We just talked. For hours."
"Aw that's cute. Where you heading now?"
I rolled my eyes. "You already know I'm going to the diner."
"Yeah I know." I could hear a car door opening and closing. "I'm on my way."
"Huh?"
She laughed. "Piper I know you. Something is wrong. You are in desperate need of a sister talk. Plus what better are the vibes of going out to eat at a diner at 2am?"
I smiled. "Thanks."
I could literally hear her rolling her eyes. "Of course. That's what sisters are for."
I grinned. "Okay. I'll see you in a bit."
"Ok love you."
"Love you too. Bye."
