Chapter 22
Annabeth's POV
Once I saw the blue cookie Percy was holding, I panicked.
Percy noticed because he came up to me and put his hand on my hand. "You ok?"
I snatched my hand away. "Y-yeah."
Percy looked sad. "Is this because you've been avoiding me?"
I was shocked. I wasn't avoiding him...
"I-I haven't been avoiding you."
Ok maybe a little.
I closed my eyes.
Should I tell him?
Do I even know what to tell?
I opened my eyes and grabbed Percy and ran out of the cafeteria.
I don't know where I was going, but Percy yanked his arm back when we arrived outside in the hallway.
We stood there awkwardly not knowing what to say, until Percy spoke.
"Why'd you bring me here?"
I fixed my eyes onto the ground. "I don't know." it was so quiet I could barely hear myself but Percy did.
He sighed. "I'm guessing you wanted to talk?"
A gave him a small smile. "Yeah."
I led him to a weird seating area in the middle of the hallway and sat down.
"So, you may be wondering why I've been avoiding you."
He nodded.
I shrugged. "I don't really know myself." I was being completely honest. "I guess I saw you with Calypso and I assumed that you were-"
Percy interrupted me. "Dating? You thought we were dating?! Nope. Dating. Ridiculous. Dating. Wow. Dating. D-"
I stopped him. "No need to say it that much. But yes. I assumed you were dating. Or you guys liked each other or something. So I just..." I shrugged.
Percy thought for a moment and started to grin.
Uh-oh.
"So, you were jealous?"
I nearly chocked in my saliva. "W-what?"
He shrugged. "Isn't it like the rules that when a girl avoids a guy talking to another girl, she's jealous? Or has high school musical done me wrong?"
"M-maybe in high school musical. But not much in real life."
He sighed. "I guess I believe you. But only because your smart. And a girl."
I smiled at him and I noticed that we were standing right in front of each other.
I felt my arm tingle but I was to busy looking at his eyes to notice.
We both stared at each other and I could literally hear my heart rate going up.
He cupped my face and began to lean in.
I closed my eyes.
But I realized something and jumped away.
Percy looked surprised but sad. "I-uh, sorry. I'll just go now."
He started to leave but I grabbed his hand. "Wait."
He reluctantly sat down and stared at the wall.
"The reason I pulled away isn't what you think."
He raised a brow. "Really? Did you pull away because you're totally deeply in love with me?" His voice dripping in sarcasm.
"No. I pulled away because-uh..."
He sighed. "It's fine."
He started to walk away and words came toppling out of my mouth. "I was scared."
He stopped abruptly and slowly turned around. "What?"
I said it slower. "I was scared."
"Of what?"
I sat down and sighed. "Because of what happened in the past."
He sat by me. "What happened?"
I looked at him. "If I tell you don't make fun of me. And just so you know, only Thalia knows about this."
He just nodded.
"I used to have a boyfriend, and I loved him and I trusted him. Then he started to hang out with the wrong people. He became distant and tried to drag Thalia and I into it. In the end, I found out he didn't love me, only as a sister, and I also realized I only loved him as a brother. He started becoming bad, but in the end, he made the right choice, but now he's suffering the consequences."
It took Percy a minute to process the information. "What was his name?"
"Luke."
Percy made a choking sound. "Luke? As in Luke Castellan?"
I was shocked. "You know him?"
He gasped. "You're his Annie?"
I glared at him. "What?"
He sighed. "Luke and I used to be pretty good friends, and he would sometimes talk about his girlfriend Annie. He never said Annabeth so I assumed the name was Annie. I did not know it was you."
My voice was small. "So did you notice that he was becoming distant?"
Percy had a sad look on his face. "Yeah. He tried to convince me too. I was mad at him for everything. But I forgave him. I just don't think he knows that."
I subconsciously leaned on his shoulder. "Crazy how we both knew him, huh?"
I could feel Percy nod. "Yep."
I looked up into those beautiful, restless sea green eyes, and I smiled.
Grey meets Green. Sea Green.
I felt my wrist about to die or something but then I heard someone. "Percy! Annabeth!"
We both jumped up from our spot, rubbing our wrist.
"Hey Pipes. Hey Jace."
I waved, a little irritated.
"What are you guys doing here?"
Piper pointed at us. "We were trying to find you guys."
Jason jumped in. "Or Calypso and Leo."
Percy frowned. "What happened?"
"They got into kind of a argument and Calypso left so Leo went after her."
Percy nodded with a frown still in his face.
I studied Piper and frowned. "Why are you so jumpy? Did something happen?"
Percy nodded. "Yeah. Jace you seem jumpy too."
Without even looking at each other they started blushing.
Percy and I shared a look and smiled knowingly.
Piper rolled her eyes. "Let's go. We only have 10 minutes of lunch left."
Percy gasped. "Let's go! I hope no one stole my blue cookies." He ran down the hallway with Jason in toll.
Piper looked at me. "Come on!"
I shook my head. "Go ahead. I'll be there in a bit."
She sighed and walked back to the cafeteria.
I sat down and took a deep breath.
I glanced at my forearm and gasped.
The tattoo was basically fully developed and it was beautiful.
It was a simple blue cookie but the ocean wave was a different story.
There were many different tones of blue, including sea green, and the waves were beautifully illustrated.
I knew who my soulmate was.
I just didn't know how to tell him.
