Chapter 5
Sophie felt Fitz tense up at the sight of Biana hugging Tam and she gently slid her hand into his. He relaxed at her touch and smiled at her. Linh got up and hugged her brother. Sophie saw Dex look angry but the look flitted off his face as fast as it had come. Sophie knew that face. It was jealousy. She turned back towards Fitz and jumped when his transmission entered her mind.
So, you ready for our date? Now that we've cleared this up?
Ha! I might change really quick if you don't mind..
Oh no, of course not! In fact I might change too. Where should we meet?
Um.. I don't know..
I'll just come back to Havenfield. It'll be fine. I'm excited. What about you?
Me too. I've never been on a date before. With you, it should be fun.
They stood up, smiling at each other.
"Um hey guys, I'm gonna go change really quick.. Fitz and I are... uh... going somewhere..." Sophie said awkwardly.
Immediately, Biana gasped. "Like, a DATE?!"
Sophie and Fitz turned bright red.
"No..." Sophie said.
"No, it's just Cognate Training stuff..." Fitz said. Biana wiped the grin off her face.
"Oh. Ok..."
Fitz gave Sophie a small smile as he leaped away. She went up the stairs and got ready, her stomach fluttering. She had just realized how much it had sounded like a date. There was a knock on her door.
"Sophie? Are you dressed? I was wondering if I could do your hair!" Biana called. Sophie sighed, opening the door.
"Sure why-"
"WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?!" Biana gasped. She shoved Sophie back into her room and made her put on a ruffled, yet comfy, teal tunic and black leggings. She put white leg warmers on and black boots with little sparkled jewels all over them. They were soft, and kept Sophie's feet warm. Lastly she put on a white cloak. She came out of the bathroom and showed Biana.
"Done..." Biana breathed.
Sophie smiled. "Good. I can go now!" she said, and walked towards the door.
"Oh no you don't. We still have to do you makeup and hair," Biana grinned. Sophie rolled her eyes, sighing. She walked over to her mirror and sat down on the chair. Vertina decided to show her annoying face.
"Ugh how come you don't do you your hair, Creepy Eyes? Good thing you found someone to do it for you. Though you still... STILL have more eyelashes on your right eyes than your left. You need to stop-"
Sophie scooted her chair away from the mirror, making the annoying figure fade away.
"Wow, is she always like that?" Biana asked, braiding Sophie's hair. Sophie nodded. Biana continued with her hair, then brushed on a little bit of white and teal eyeshadow. She put some black dust over Sophie's eyelashes, making them look darker, more noticeable. She then brushed on a little bit of a pink powder over her cheeks. Biana set down her supplies, holding her hands up.
"Done!"
Sophie stood up quickly. "Good, because I'm pretty sure I'm late now."
Biana shrugged, following Sophie down the stairs. "At least you look good being late!"
They scrambled down the stairs with Sophie tripping once or twice from her clumsiness. Fitz was waiting on the couch.
"Where's Tam?" Biana asked, then turned bright red. "A-And Linh? And D-Dex?" She tried to cover up her slip with a smile. Fitz looked up and his eyes immediately found Sophie's.
"Whoa," he breathed. Sophie felt her cheeks flame up. He had worn a white top with some black pants and brown boots. His cape was a familiar looking brown. (Hehehe see what I did there?)
"You ready?" he asked, holding up a pathfinder. She nodded and took his hand.
Fitz looked at Biana and grinned. "Don't think you are getting away with that!"
Biana blushed quickly with a worried expression coming across her face. They waved goodbye to Biana as Fitz held the pathfinder up to the light. They smiled at each other and stepped into the light.
The two leaped to the dirty human beach to get to Atlantis. They created the whirlpool and instantly Sophie felt herself falling into the water. She slid down the slide and felt herself come out on the sponge. Did Fitz just PUSH her? She got off the sponge on time to see Fitz land on it.
"Sorry about that," he said, jumping off the gigantic fluffy thing. "I didn't think you would go if I wasn't there. You just kinda stood there for a couple minutes, ignoring me."
Sophie looked over at him, confused. "I ignored you? Whoops, I'm sorry. Sooo..." she said, turning around towards the streets of Atlantis.
"So where would you like to go? We could go get something to eat..." Fitz suggested. Sophie immediately latched on to the idea.
"Sure! That'd be fun. I did forget about lunch..." she chuckled. Fitz laughed along with her, his crisp deep, voice rumbling. They walked to a little restaurant called L'amour au Jardin, a small shop without a roof. Inside there were flowers everywhere, and the open roof made it seem as if you were eating in a garden. They walked up to the man behind the cashier smiled at him.
"Hello," the man said. "You two lovebirds here for a date?"
Fitz and Sophie immediately blushed.
"Uh... uh well..." Sophie stuttered. Fitz cut her off.
"Yes," he said smiling at her. "Yes we are."
The man behind the cashier register smiled and picked up two menus, walking between couples and tables to a single table in the middle. Over the top of it tiny twinkling flowers and vines curled around the lamp, roses and violets and orchids blossoming around them. Fitz smiled at the little spot, pulling Sophies chair out for her. She smiled at him and sat down, then he went and sat down in his chair. The man grinned at the two.
"Alright, my name is Beau Bâton and I will be our waiter this evening. Here are your menus, I will be back very soon," he said, giving the two teens their menus and walking off to the next couple in line. Sophie opened her menu and skimmed through.
Sophie picked up her menu. "What are you gonna get?" she asked Fitz. She looked over the top of her menu to see him staring at her. Sophie coughed and Fitz blinked out of his trance.
"Uh.. sorry what?"
Sophie giggled. "I asked what you were gonna get?"
"Oh! I might get the Vegeclaire. It taste like what the human food, spaghetti, tastes like," he mumbled. Sophie gave him a confused look.
"When did you eat spaghetti?" she asked, folding her menu and setting it down. Fitz shrugged.
"I had some once while looking for you. Though without the meat," he shuddered. Sophie laughed.
"I'll guess I can get that too."
The waiter came back. "Hello again, are you two ready to order?" They nodded and ordered. The waiter took their menus and walked away.
"So..." Fitz started, his mouth hanging in an o shape. Clearly he was kinda bored. Sophie smiled.
"So what do you think we should do after this?" she asked. Fitz started to play with the lights above him.
"I don't know, it's up to you since I chose the restaurant, m'lady."
Sophie felt her cheeks flame. "We-Well..."
They were cut off by the waiter coming back with their food. They started eating, Sophie gushing how amazing it tasted, when suddenly Fitz cleared his throat.
"I... I wouldn't feel bad if you didn't want to do anything after this. We could just eat and then call it a day..." he said, putting his fork down on the table. Sophie smiled sweetly, taking his hand in hers.
"No I'd love to do something. As long as you want to..." she said sweetly.
Fitz blushed. "What are you thinking?"
Sophie thought for a moment. "Maybe we could walk around Atlantis or levitate out. That is really fun."
Fitz nodded. "Yeah let's do that then."
Sophie finished quickly and the waiter came back.
Beau smiled at the two and asked, "Would you be interested in dessert?"
Sophie grinned. "Yes, we would love some."
Beau smiled as Fitz asked him what the options were.
"Mallowmelt, ripplefluffs, custard bursts, ripplenut, pudding puffs, prattles, mooncakes..." Beau listed. "Which one would you like?"
Sophie looked at Fitz. Her eyes twinkled at she looked up again. "Mallowmelt and ripplefluffs please!"
Beau gave a little bow. "Alrighty then. I will be back with them shortly," he told them as he swung around headed to the kitchen.
"Mallowmelt and ripplefluffs?" Fitz said laughing.
Sophie laughed, giving him a nod. "You like ripplefluffs!"
"I know," Fitz sighed. "I cannot wait to eat both!"
"Yeah," Sophie said with a sly smile. Oooo
A rustling came from the kitchen and Beau came out balancing a couple plates of mallowmelt and ripplefluffs. He swooped over to Sophie and Fitz's table and set down the platters. "Here you younglings, enjoy," Beau said with a flourish.
Sophie smiled. "Thank you, Beau!"
Beau gave a bow and said, "Call me over if you need anything else. You can just pay on the way out."
Fitz nodded. "We will."
Beau smiled and walked away gracefully like a ballet dancer. Sophie looked down at the food, her eyes widening and her mouth watering. She could not wait to dig in. Fitz looked at her expectantly.
"Well? Ladies first.." Fitz said, sweeping a hand over the plate of mallowmelt. Sophie laughed and picked up a piece of the gooey yummyness, putting down on her plate. Fitz grabbed a mint chocolate ripple puff and bit into it, his eyes fluttering as he sighed.
"Sooo good..." he mumbled. Sophie took a bite of her mallowmelt and sighed.
"Yess it is good!" she said. She savored the butterscotch flavor. She tasted every element. The chocolate, the butter, the cookie, the cake. It tasted just right. She looked over to Fitz who was staring at her.
"Fitz?" Sophie asked as they finished their desert.
"Hm?" he asked as they stood up. Sophie giggled.
"You have something on your face. Right there," she said, pointing to a spot on his chin. He frowned and tried to wipe it away but to no avail.
"Here," Sophie said, grabbing a napkin and wiping it off for him. The two turned bright at each other's proximity, but Sophie looked away. She didn't want to get caught in his teal eyes again.
Fitz cleared his throat. "Well, since I suggested the date, I'll pay ok?"
Sophie shook her head. "No, I suggested lunch. I pay," she said, as the walked towards Beau. They argued the entire way there and when Fitz swiped his birth fund card before Sophie could, she started laughing. They walked out of the tiny cafe holding hands, chuckling.
He suddenly turned to her, looking at her intensely. "Ready?
