Chapter 10

Hey everyone! I was going to update this on Friday but I ended up doing a ton of homework and didn't have time to finish writing the chapter... same with Saturday... so I am sorry for that! Thank you so much for 2.1k reads!!! I can't believe it! I made that edit of Biana up there! Here is Chapter 10! Can you believe it?? Chapter 10!

Chapter 10

Sophie stared at Tam and Linh's majestic house. They had done a wonderful job of incorporating their abilities into the house. Black and blue seemed to intertwine and mix, creating spiral and waved patterns along the house side. Those patterns gave the house a very specific shape. It had two towers that rose from it. Ripplespire... they called it. Keefe's hand tightened on hers for a moment, and she turned her head to look into his eyes.

He opened his mouth slightly and then shook his head and looked away. "Why don't you go in?" he said with his back turned to her.

Sophie couldn't see his expression. She didn't know what was wrong, but the subdued tone and his downcast position told her something was wrong. "Keefe..." she said softly as she walked to his side. Sophie put her hand under his chin and made him meet her eyes. "What's wrong?" she asked as his sad eyes looked into hers.

Keefe shook his head. "It doesn't matter. It's not like you really want to know anyways," he told her.

Sophie sighed. "But I really do want to know. I care about you, Keefe! I can't help you if you keep secrets from me," she told him.

"But aren't you doing that to Fitz right now? And Fitz to you too?" Keefe whispered.

"What do you mean?" Sophie inquired, a confused expression appeared on her face.

Keefe stood still. Too still. What did he know? Sophie gasped and Keefe nodded. "I know you like him, Soph. I know you do," Keefe told her.

"But Keefe... I just kissed you..." Sophie said with a shocked look.

"I know... but... it wasn't truly real," Keefe said sadly. His eyes were now intense and focused on Sophie. "It was just a dare.

"It was still a kiss. A heart-pounding one at that," Sophie said, her eyes begging with Keefe. "I thought... I thought you cared about me."

"I do, Sophie... but I don't know if I can when I see your heart lies with another," Keefe told her as he tried to move away from Sophie.

Sophie grabbed his hand and pulled him back to her. "You can't leave. Not now. I... I.... need you...."

Keefe looked her right in the eyes. "For you, Sophie... I would do anything. Anything at all. But the soulmate process... and stuff... I need a bit of a break to think about things..."

Sophie stared at him, unable to say anything. Keefe pulled her into a hug and ran his hand through Sophie's hair. "I'm sorry, Sophie," he whispered.

Sophie stared at the night sky from where her head lay on Keefe's shoulder. She sighed. "I'm sorry too... but you're my friend. I hate seeing you this way.

Keefe let out a heavy sigh. "Me too," he whispered.

"Would you please at least come back to the sleepover with me? They're expecting both of us," Sophie said pleading with him.

"I guess," he said quietly, his tone husky. "But after the sleepover... I need some time to think."

Sophie pulled back and nodded. "Okay," she told him. "You're amazing. You know that, right?"

Keefe chuckled. "Yes I do. I believe my hair tells me that every day," he said, giving a glance upwards. "Every wonderful, Neverseen-free day. It's the bliss!"

Sophie smiled. "It's delightful and joyful," she said, following Keefe's example.

Keefe chuckled again, but then his expression turned serious. His eyes burned a hole straight into her. "You need to tell him, Soph," he said solemnly. "You need to." Then, he turned sharply, his cape fluttering behind him. Keefe walked away, up to the porch, leaving Sophie standing there in a daze. She was so confused right now. Sophie and Fitz technically weren't dating or doing any of that. He hadn't even kissed her yet. They hadn't told each other their secrets yet either. Keefe had kissed her a lot recently. He was trying to make his move or prove something, but what was it? Sophie stood there feeling the puzzlement sweep over her. She shook her head and encouraged herself to go in. Keefe still stood on the porch, but the giant shadowy door was swinging open. Sophie gasped and ran to catch up to him. Her feet hit the stone path as she ran quickly and dove to walk in behind Keefe. Sophie put on a cool smile and shut the big door behind them. Tam appeared off to the side and gave them a nod.

"Hey," Tam said with a sly smile. "How did it go?"

Keefe glanced at Sophie, who was looking at anyone but him. "Okay I guess. Lets play more Truth or Dare!" Keefe told Tam with a little wink.

Sophie noticed that Mini Shadow was curled up on Tam's shoulder. Her eyes watched the fluffy creature. "Yay!" Sophie said excitedly. "You have Mini Shadow!"

Tam grinned. "I've had a lot of fun with the little guy," he told her. He rubbed Mini Shadow's furry back. His silver bangs fell over his eyes as he looked down at the chameleon.

Sophie nodded as Keefe grabbed both of their hands and pulled them to the main room. Linh and Dex sat side by side on the couch, Biana on the other side of Dex. An empty spot was beside Biana but Sophie guessed that that had been where Tam had been sitting. Keefe let go of their hands and Tam went back to his spot by Biana. Keefe sat down on the other couch leaving a seat between him and Fitz. Sophie had no choice but to sit between them. She sat down awkwardly.

Fitz's voice filled her head as Sophie sat down.

So did that dare happen?

Sophie stared straight ahead as she replied.

Yeah. It did.

Sophie looked over at Fitz a moment later. His expression was one of confusion. He seemed sad, but at the same time... Sophie couldn't really tell what he was feeling. Fitz met her eyes and wrapped his arm around Sophie's shoulder. He gave her a gentle squeeze and moved his arm away. Sophie didn't know what to do. She sighed and sat back, letting herself relax into the couch.

Tam stood up suddenly. Sophie could tell that he had sensed the awkwardness increasing moment by moment. "I believe Keefe has the next turn," Tam said with a sly smile. His ability made the room darker and spookier. Shadows crept in from the corners, and the light dimmed. Sophie shivered as she glanced over at Keefe. His roguish grin was evident, and she knew that no one was safe now. Everyone's secrets could be outed in a matter of seconds. Keefe grinned and rubbed his hands together. "Dexy boy, Truth or Dare?" he said his grin growing wider.

Dex gulped as he mumbled. "Dare..."

"What was that?" Keefe asked. "I couldn't hear you!"

"Dare!" Dex yelled. "Alright?!" He sighed as Keefe began to think of the perfect dare.

"I dare you to let Biana change your hair color!" Keefe challenged. He grinned and rubbed his hands together again. A creepy "heheheheheheheheh" came out of his lips.

Everyone stared at Keefe mystified, their questioning gazes all pointed at Keefe. He laughed. "Come on, Biana!" Keefe said. "He chose dare, and that's the dare I'm giving him!"

Dex sighed. "Alright... I'll do it."

Keefe just looked at him. "You were going to do it anyways," he told Dex. Keefe chuckled and put his hands behind his head. "I can't wait to see this!"

Sophie wasn't sure when she would be targeted but she secretly hoped that she wouldn't be. Although, Sophie knew that was not possible. They were sure to dare her to do something. She sighed. Why has she agreed to this?

Biana led Dex away. Linh jumped up to follow them, since it was her house. Linh let Biana store a bunch of her hair elixirs here for times when they needed them. There was a cabinet full of them. Sophie was sure that Linh tried them on her own. Who couldn't resist changing their hair? Sophie chuckled as they waited for them to come back.

Biana and Linh walked in the room with wide grins on their faces. Dex followed behind them. They held their hands out towards Dex and said, "Ta da!!" Sophie gasped and burst out laughing as everyone started laughing. Dex's hair was now radiant silver. It was so shiny. Sophie stood up quickly and walked over to Dex, who had a grumpy look on his face.

Sophie sighed. "Dex! Your hair is amazing!" she told him as she combed a hand through his luscious silver locks. "I love the silver so much! You should keep it this way." Sophie was telling the truth. She really did think that Dex should keep it.

Dex gaped at Sophie. "My hair is silver!!!?? Silver???? Did I hear you right?" he asked in astonishment.

"What do you mean?" Sophie asked. "You didn't know your hair was silver?"

Dex nodded vigorously. "They wouldn't let me see what color... I wanted to badly though. I may keep it... just possibly," he said as he looked at Biana and Linh, who were in the middle of a deep conversation.

Sophie grinned. "I think you should. I know a certain pair of girls over there who would be very happy if you kept it in," Sophie told him mischievously.

Dex grinned. "I definitely will then!" he exclaimed. The commotion caused the whole group to look at Sophie and Dex.

They shrugged at everyone, and Keefe yelled sleepily from his spot. "Dex... you need to ask someone!"

"Biana! Truth or Dare?" Dex asked with a nod at Keefe.

Biana thought and answered, "Dare..."

Dex nodded. "Okay. I dare you to do Elixir Roulette!" he said excitedly.

Sophie laughed. Biana hated Elixir Roulette, especially because she didn't get to know what was happening to her. Biana cared a lot about her looks, but in a good way. Sophie watched Biana laugh nervously. "Ok... lets do this..." Biana said slowly.

A grin spread across Sophie's face. Biana hated the idea of the unknown. This was going to be great, Sophie thought. Keefe stood up and said, "Dex, can I help you pick the elixirs?"

Dex nodded and grinned. "Lets go!" Together the two walked out the front door to leap to Slurps and Burps. Dex stored the best elixirs there. Sophie watched the door and as soon as it did, Biana let out a scream of frustration. "I don't want to do this," Biana said.

Tam chuckled and wrapped an arm around her arm. Looking into her eyes, he said, "You have to!" His grin and closeness made Biana melt a little. Sophie sighed over the cuteness. She felt an arm wrap around her own shoulders, and she looked upward and saw Fitz's sparkling eyes gazing at her. Sophie smiled and ducked a little.

"Hi..." she whispered as Fitz pulled her a little closer. Sophie sank into him and rested her head against his chest.

"Hi," Fitz whispered back and then transmitted the rest.

So that dare?

Yeah? Sophie transmitted back, closing her eyes.

Do you like Keefe now? Fitz asked.

I don't know... not really... not anyways... not after what he said... she transmitted. She didn't want Fitz thinking that she liked Keefe. She did... but as a friend at the moment.

Sophie... you're my cognate and in order for us to pass our test... I want to have things clear between us... I will respect your privacy, but I want you to be well and to not be hurt. I love you, Soph.

Sophie didn't know what to tell him. She was about to cry, because Fitz was so caring and wanted to be there for her. He had told her that he loved her! It made her heart melt. A tear rolled down her cheek. "Thank you," she whispered in his ear, her heart pounding wildly.

You can come to me with anything, you know? I want to be here for you. I always will be, he transmitted as he wiped her tear away.

Sophie gave him a hug, burying her face in his shoulder. I know, Fitz.

Okay, Soph. Just know that I am here... Tam looks like he is in heaven. Can you see the smile on his face? Fitz transmitted getting more jubilant as he went on.

Sophie gasped. My face is buried in your shoulders. I can't see it. What do you mean?

I think you need to see for yourself.

Sophie pulled away from Fitz and looked at Tam. He was in heaven; he looked radiant. Sophie's eyes met Tam's. His grin was a little blinding. Tam looked a little too happy. Biana was giving him a long hug, her face nestled in the crook of his shoulder. Their arms were wrapped around each other tightly; Biana seemed to think that Tam would protect her from the dare. Sophie and Fitz stood up and walked over to them. Sophie walked around to Biana's side. Her eyes were closed, and her breaths were shallow.

"Tam," Sophie whispered lightly. "Biana might've fallen asleep..."

Tam's mouth opened wide in surprise. Fitz's did too. Fitz was still extremely protective of his sister and seeing her asleep on a boy's shoulder was not something he wanted to see. Sophie grabbed Fitz's hand and gave it a squeeze.

Relax, she transmitted. Biana was really tired... plus it's late.

Yeah... I know but she's asleep on Tam's shoulder! And I'm protective of Biana! She's my sister! Fitz told her with a grimace. It's just just hard for me to see this for the first time. I'll get used to it. Eventually...

Sophie held his gaze for a moment. Then, she nodded and looked back to Tam. "Dex and Keefe are going to be back any second," Sophie told Tam glancing around the room.

Tam's eyes glazed over for a second as he thought. "Yeah," he said slowly. "We should probably wake up Biana."

Fitz and Sophie both nodded as Tam said, "Biana... wake up."

Biana grudgingly opened her eyes and noticed them all looking down on her. "What happened?" she asked with a yawn.

"Yeah what did happen?" a slightly angry voice said.

Sophie spun around to see Dex looking a little cross. "Ummm... not much... Biana just fell asleep on Tam's shoulder... that's all..." she told him quickly.

Dex opened his mouth to say something but shut it as Keefe walked in and stood beside him. Keefe looked at Sophie in particular sending her a questioning glance. "I heard some of that... but I am still confused," Keefe said as he set down the bag of elixirs he had been carrying.

Dex sighed and looked over at Biana. His eyes drifted to Linh, who was staring at him with a hurt expression. He stood as still as a statue for a moment, realizing what he had done. Sophie quietly walked over to Dex and took the bag from his hands. He had been about to drop it. Dex finally was able to speak and said quietly, "Lets start Elixir Roulette."

Biana stood up nervously. Sophie could tell from the visible shaking. Biana walked up to the table where all the elixirs had been set up. "None of these will hurt you and none of them are permanent. I have the remedies to them right here for after," Dex began. "Don't afraid please. You know we wouldn't purposefully put something in there that would be harmful to you, right?"

Biana swallowed nervously and gave a weak nod. Dex handed her the first elixir. It was a dark brown murky substance. Biana drained it quickly. Her hair suddenly turned white. Biana's hair that is, now was long enough to just barely touch the floor. She gasped and looked at Dex in shock. "My hair!" Biana exclaimed. "I want the remedy!"

Dex shook his head vigorously. "Here's the next one," he said handing it to her. This elixir was in a dark blue vial with a green liquid swishing around in it.

Biana took a deep breath and swigged down the contents of the vial. They waited a couple of moments to see if the change would appear yet. It did immediately. Bina grew taller. She was now about tall as Fitz. Sophie gasped. "Biana!" she said. "You've gained about a foot!"

Biana grinned. "This is fun... a little," she said with a blush. "A little bit embarrassing though."

Sophie laughed as Dex handed Biana the next two elixirs, one maroon cloudy and the other ice colored. Biana chugged them both down one after the other. Everyone watched to see what the changes would be. Sophie curiously stepped closer to see what would happen. A second later, Biana's eyes turned the color of ice. They were stunning. Sophie gasped. "Biana, your eyes!"

Fitz was startled. "Her eyes? They're different?"

Sophie nodded. "Come see."

Fitz peered at Biana's eyes. "They're ice!"

Biana looked extremely puzzled. "Ice?"

Everyone nodded. "Ice," Dex said bluntly.

Keefe walked over to Biana studying her face. "Is anyone going to mention to Biana that her nose is larger?" he said and then turned to Biana. "Your eyes are basically the same color as mine, but... more astonishing. Your eyes are like magnets in a way."

Biana just stood there gaping. "My nose?" she said shocked as she felt her nose. She paled and screamed, "DEXXX!!"

Dex shrugged and held up his hands. "Sorry! Couldn't help it! You still have two more to drink..."

Biana growled. "Alright, give them to me!" she huffed. Dex handed her the last two elixirs. Biana took them from him gingerly and held them both up. She drank the first one quickly and then the second. Biana stood in the middle of a circle. Somewhat circle was more like that. Sophie gaped as Biana's hair turned curly. Not wavy. Curly! Super curly! Sophie smiled at Dex. "You did good with those elixir!" she told him sweetly.

Dex beamed. "Thanks! I wanted you all to be pleased," he said with a grin.

Sophie nodded. These dares were fun. So far at least. Sophie hoped it wouldn't get worse. She smiled at Biana as she handed Biana a mirror to look at her face and hair. She gasped. "My hair! Curly! Beyond curly! How??!" she spluttered. "And my nose!! And my ice eyes... ahh!"

Sophie glanced around the room. Linh seemed to be staring intently at Biana's feet. Their gazes met and Linh pointed at Biana's feet. Sophie walked forward and knelt down in front of Biana to take a closer look. "Biana..." Sophie said slowly. "Your feet..."

Biana seemed confused. "My feet what?" she asked tilting her head a little.

Sophie looked back at her. "They grew."

Biana looked down at her feet. They were about a foot longer than before. "They definitely did grow!" she said with a scream. "DEXTER ALVIN DIZZNEE!"

"What?" Dex asked, trying to seem innocent.

"You did this!" Biana said with a flick of her hair. "I want the remedy elixirs now!"

Dex sighed. "You know it was just a joke, right? Not the elixirs should be considered good ones," he said with a shrug. Dex held out the elixir to her.

Biana nodded as she took the elixir from Dex. She quickly drained and handed it back to Dex. All of the features added by the elixirs disappeared except for one, the ice eyes. Sophie stifled a laugh as she met Dex's eyes. He was silently saying don't tell her. Tam rested a hand on Biana's shoulder and smiled at her. "I think it's your turn to dare someone," Tam told Biana.

Biana grinned. "I already have one in mind. Sophie, Truth or Dare?" she asked with an even larger grin.

Sophie gulped. "Dare," she squeaked. Sophie didn't know what to do. Biana was definitely planning a dare that would be... embarrassing... or not ideal.

"I dare you to kiss a boy on the cheek that you like!" Biana said looking very satisfied.

Sophie gasped. She met Fitz and Keefe's gazes. Biana definitely knew the best dares to get someone to actually do something. Sophie looked at Fitz and then at Keefe. Fitz's eyes were full of love and content. Keefe's eyes were more filled with sadness and pleading. What would she do? She blanched and backed away a little. Sophie thought about it a little and made up her mind. She would do it.
