╚»★«╝ Chapter 6 : Balmera ╚»★«╝
"Okay. So, when we get there, what do you think? Do we just roll up and start blasting? Or do we land and have some kind of public address system, like, 'Attention, Galras, this is Voltron. Turn yourselves in'? " Hunk said, receiving stares from his friends. "No. Blasting, right?"
"Hunk, calm down. And, yes, blasting" answered Keith.
"It's our first big rescue mission. He's excited" grinned Shiro.
"Excited to see his new girlfriend" gushed Pidge teasingly.
"She's not my girlfriend!" gasped the Yellow Paladin. "She's just a rock that I met and I admire very much"
The alarm of the ship blared loudly, catching the attention of everyone, with the Paladins whipping their heads abruptly to Coran. You took a look at the screen, examining the red dot that kept flashing in a certain position.
"What is it? Are we being attacked?" wondered Shiro.
"No, it seems to be a distress beacon" said Coran.
"It's coming from a nearby moon" said Allura from her position at the lead board. "Apparently, a ship has lost power"
"I wonder who it is" said Pidge.
"Whoever it is will have to wait" Hunk shook his head. "Shay has first priority. We can check back on them when we're done"
"The Paladin Code states that we must help all those in need" you interrupted, eyes not even leaving your screen.
"Wow! This is so cool" exclaimed Lance. "It's like we're space cops on space patrol. Coran, do we have a siren we can turn on?"
"Uh, no, but we could recorded you making a siren noise and broadcast that to them" offered the advisor.
"Perfect!" smiled the Blue Paladin, about to imitate a siren when Shiro quickly put his hand on his mouth.
"No, not doing that" he sweated.

The ship followed the distress signal on the moon, until three figures beside a broken vessel appeared on your screen. You quickly warned the princess who brought the Castle closer to them.
Through the speakers, she introduced herself to the strangers before landing the Castle.
"Stay aboard and try to get as many of our systems clear of that Galra crystal energy as you can. We'll see who hailed us" Allura ordered.
"Yes, Princess" said Coran.
"You're sure you don't need my help, Coran?" you asked the old advisor as you followed the others.
"No, no! I can handle this alone!" he dismissed you, and you shot at him a look.
"That's exactly why I don't trust you. Just, be sure to not explode everything while we're gone"
"As if!"
Using a pod, you descended with the Paladins and Allura to meet those who sent the distress call. Upon arriving on the surface of the moon, you saw a man, a woman, and a robot.
"You don't know how glad we are to see some friendly faces" smiled the purple male. "Most folks don't want to get tangled up with anyone who's on the run from the Galra"
"So, you guys are fighting the Galra?" you raised a brow, stopping in front of them.
"Well, I don't think Zarkon is exactly quaking in his boots at the three of us, we do what we can. I'm Rolo. This is Nyma, and our cyber-unit, Beezer" he introduced himself and the others.
"Hi" Nyma greeted.
Lance was already falling for her by the way his cheeks reddened and the goofy look upon his face. Pidge couldn't help the amazed expression as she gazed at the robot in wonder.
The two quickly approached the objects of their attention, making the others stared at them exasperated.
"Anyway, was your ship damaged in a fight?" you sighed, turning to Rolo.
"Yeah, we've really been through it with the Galra. Parts are hard to come by. Luckily, we were able to limp to this moon about a week ago. If you didn't pick up our distress signal, I..."
"We're happy to help" smiled Allura. "I am Princess Allura of Altea, and from now on, you won't be alone fighting the Galras. You'll have the Paladins of Voltron by your side"
Rolo gazed at her, clueless. He looked over his shoulder at Pidge who was riding Beezer and Lance who was openly flirting with a giggling Nyma.
"....Okay" he said simply, not really sure.
"I don't think they've heard of us" sweated Shiro.
"It has been ten thousand years" pointed out Keith.
"Voltron? Five robot lions that combine into this big robot...guy?" said Lance.
"Sounds impressive. I'd love to see it. Or him. Them" trailed Rolo, sweatdropping.
"Why don't we get to work on your ship? I'm sure we all have places to be" said Hunk rather impatient.
"Sure" smiled Rolo, opening the cargo of his ship. "Pretty much our whole flaxum assembly is shot. I don't know what kind of extra parts you carry in this rig of yours. I've never seen anything like it"
"I'm sure we can get you back up and running" reassured Allura, your attention stolen to Lance who was flexing his biceps behind her. "Give Hunk a list of what you need. Coran can show you where to find it"
"Okay" said Hunk at the same time Shiro hit the Blue Paladin's back.
"We'll go with you. Don't want you to have to carry all that yourself. Come on, guys"
As Rolo walked in the direction of the Castle, he was stopped by Hunk placing a hand on his chest, pushing him backward. The Yellow Paladin frowned at the purple guy, crossing his arms over his chest:
"Uh, I don't think so. You can just wait out here"
"Hunk, don't be rude" said Allura.
"Yeah, mind your manners. There are ladies present" added Lance, winking at Nyma.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but does anyone remember the last time we let our defenses down? Someone kind of set off a bomb. General was almost killed" Hunk continued, looking at you.
"Hunk's right. Sorry, but we have to be cautious" you stated, staring at Rolo who simply smiled.
"Hey, I don't take it personal. That's how it is out here" he said, taking a list that Beezer handed to him. "You've got to look out for your own. You're doing a good job, big man"
"Yeah. Thanks" replied Hunk, taking the list.
It took some time to replace the damaged parts of the vessel, but it seems it was nothing too important or critical. Hunk, helped by Rolo on occasions, worked on the ship while the others learned a little bit more on the backstory of this small group.
Lance constantly flirted with the alien girl who responded eagerly to his lame pick-up lines or gestures to impress her. He even gave her a flight with the Blue Lion.
And it's strangely around the same time Rolo was able to make his ship work again. Said male has closed the hatch that led to the motor, and ran up to the head of the ship:
"I think this thing is just about ready for a test flight. Beezer come co-pilot for me. Be back in a tick"
Without even saying anything else, the ship departed, leaving you with the others to stare at the retreating vessel in pure disbelief. It didn't ease your mind that you had no news of Lance for a good moment too.
Still, you all waited for their return. A few ticks later, you decided to break the silence with an unnerved sigh:
"Where are they?"
"I don't know. I hope they didn't break down again" said Allura.
"Something ain't right...." mumbled Hunk irritably.
"Guys?" said suddenly the voice of Lance through the helmet's speakers. "Hello? Little help?"
"Lance? Lance! Are you all right? What's going on?" quickly demanded Shiro.
"Well, I'm kind of chained to a tree" answered the Blue Paladin with honesty. "And I think Nyma and Rolo just stole the Blue Lion"
"I knew it!" cried out Hunk.
"Where are they?" asked the leader.
"Uh...Space?"
"Uh, I never trusted those guys, right from the beginning!"
"Paladins, to your Lions. Now!" you shouted.
They did as told while Hunk kept on complaining about how his suspicions were right from the start, and how they shouldn't have never helped them in the first place. Of course, this earned a few 'We get it!' from his friends.
You, on the other hand, had to search for Lance all over the moon to free the fool. And the minute-tick you found him, you didn't hesitate to give him a long speech about how he shouldn't let his hormones have the control over his actions.
Eventually, the Paladins returned with the stealers and the Blue Lion.
"Since your ship really doesn't work now, you'll have to wait here for a rescue" Shiro folded his arms, gazing at the three who looked ashamed of their actions.
"Thanks for sparing our lives" said Rolo. "You may not believe this, but I hope you do stop Zarkon. It's a lifetime of fighting the Galra that led me to where I am today"
"Now that these guys are dealt with, let's get to the Balmera and save Shay and her family" told Hunk, already marching to the Castle.
"And he's still saying that she isn't his girlfriend?" mumbled Lance, following after him with the others.
"Ah, young love" you shrugged with your hands lifted. "It truly can do wonders on determination"
"For the last time, she's not my girlfriend!"

"We'll be arriving at the Balmera soon" announced Allura. "Liberating those Balmerans from Zarkon's grasp will not be easy"
"So, what's the plan? We go in there and just....pow, pow, pow! And free the prisoners?" said Lance, imitating poorly laser guns.
"What was that noise?" asked Keith.
"Laser guns"
"No, Lance, I think you mean...Peow! Peow! Peow!" said Hunk, imitating the sounds of lasers firing while gesturing wildly.
"That sounds like fireworks" argued Lance.
"Technically, they're more like...ba-choo, ba-choo, ba-choo!" stated Pidge.
"Okay, enough with the bad sound effects" interrupted Shiro. "....Besides it's more like blam, blam, blam!"
"What?!" shouted Keith and Lance.
"You're crazy" added Hunk, hands on his hips while Pidge scratched her head.
"Cut it out already!" you finally lost your patience, glaring at the Paladins. "Can you focus on the task at hand?! And besides, you can't just shoot at the Galra. The Balmera is alive, and often mistaken for a planet"
"She's right. And from what we've seen, it doesn't look very good" said Hunk.
"Yes, it's an atrocity what the Galra have been doing to this grand beast" frowned Coran.
"Stealing its crystals, its very life force, without ever performing the energy rejuvenation ceremonies to heal it"
"After seeing Shay's people enslaved, it made me realize how bad Zarkon really is. And we're the only ones who can stop him"
"Okay, so we can't go into the tunnels guns blazing" rectified Shiro. "Plan B. We figure out how to draw the Galra up to the surface and battle them up there"
"I know. If we attack all of this big mining stuff on the surface, the Galra troops will have to come out to defend it" said Hunk. "Then we beat them up, head down to the tunnels, Voltron saves the day"
"How will we know how many are left in the tunnels?" inquired Keith.
"We can track the Galra and the Balmerans using Biothermal Life Indicator Point Technology" said Allura, showing an hologram of the tracker.
"Oh, BLIP tech!" stated Pidge, taking a closer look. Sensing the princess's gaze, she stared back at her: "It's an acronym"
"One of you will need to fly around the Balmera and drop sensors into the shafts of each side. Then we'll be able to see where the Galra and the Balmerans are. There are already sensors built into your suits"
"I can do it" proposed Pidge. "I just modified the Green Lion with the invisible maze's cloaking ability. I should be able to fly around unnoticed"
"You never seem to cease in amazing me, Pidge" you complimented, earning an embarrassed blush from the only female Paladin.
"That's the main generator" Coran showed a huge building on the Balmera through the screen.
"If you take that down, it will severely weaken their defenses"
"We'll stay in cloud cover and give tactical support" said the princess. "With the Castle's defenses weakened from Sendak's crystal, we won't be of much help to you"
"I'll take out the power generator. Keith, Lance, Hunk, you take out these big mining rigs around the area" instructed Shiro.
"Yeah! Okay, let's do this! Let's go kick some alien butt!" said Hunk, fist-pumping the air.
"Paladins. Remember that the Balmera is a living being. You will want to limit your attacks on targets that you are sure to hit and not the surface of the grand beast" you warned one last time.
"Don't worry, General. We will free the creature without leaving a scratch on her!" winked Lance, causing Keith to slap the back of his head. "Hey! What was that for?!"
"I just feel like it" grunted back the mullet.
