~ chapter one ~

It was time. I had two hours left until I finally turned eighteen and I couldn't say how happy I was. My parents had made me save up ever since I started having a job.

They told me, "When you turn eighteen, you are going to go on a really long journey just to find him. And, along the way, you will need food, a place to live and a car. So we need you to be prepared."

Yeah, prepared. You could say that. I would say, I am over prepared. I have over 10,00o,000 dollars in my bank account.. That's way too much.

While I was upstairs, getting ready for the party that my parents were throwing me, I admired my soulmate tattoo. It was on my right hip, a black heart with the letters G.G. inside. I have always wondered where, around the world, my soulmate was.

What was he doing? Who was he with? What did he look like?

But, I knew I was never supposed to look him up. That was against our soulmate rules. It would violate them and you would get your tattoo removed, which as people said, was a lot of pain. And, honestly, I didn't want to go through that.

My fingers traced over the designs, every letter and every crease. I smiled, knowing that maybe, my soulmate was smiling too.

Hearing my mom yell my name from downstairs, I quickly grabbed my white crop top, jean shorts, converse and my infinite number of rings, necklaces and bracelets. My hair was natural, hanging loosely over and behind my shoulders, the curls quickly swaying as I tilted my head.

Once I was done, I quickly walked downstairs, and headed towards the kitchen, where my mom was running from one side to the other, placing down bowls and checking on the cake in the oven.

"Honey, can you please get the chips and dips from the counter?"

I nodded and walked over, balancing two bowls on both my arms, and forearms were the dips. A year in waitressing really paid off.

Almost bumping into my dad on the way to the dining room table, he chuckled as I smiled and walked off. Once I set them down, I heard a scream from the kitchen and a laugh erupt. Dad was scaring the hell out of my mother, again. I went into the kitchen and pretended like nothing had happened, finishing the cake and spreading some of the frosting on top.

"Don't bring the cake out, yet!" my mother screamed right before the doorbell rung. She shrieked, throwing off her apron, and dashing to the mirror.

"I'll get it!"

I walked over to the door and opened it, smiling as soon as I saw who was behind.

"Emily!" I smiled as my cousin enveloped me in a hug.

"Oh, Ambahr, it's so nice to finally see you again!"

I smiled as I guided her in, and also enveloped my cousin's husband, Eddie, who was looking his best.

"Hi, Eddie. It's been too long."

"I know. It's finally time. How do you feel?"

"Nervous."

He chuckled at my response, before wrapping his arms around me in a hug."That's what I felt. But, don't worry, that will pass after you finally meet him."

"Thanks." I smiled as he let go, both of them walking through the door as I closed the door behind us.

"Wow, this looks amazing!" Emily gushed over all the decorations and smiled when she saw my parents.

"Emily! How have you been? You look beautiful!" They enveloped her in a hug as I smiled.

The doorbell rang once again and I went to get it. When I opened it, I smiled.

"Grandma! Oh, everyone's here!"

I hugged all out guests as little by little, everyone started to arrive. Soon, the house was full and I was getting many compliments. Walking around, I talked to everyone and had many small conversations.
