Who Are You??

Levi's POV:
I don't know when I started to feel these feelings. When she first came here she meant nothing to me. She was just another annoying brat that I'd have to put up with. But now... now I crave her presence. I find myself smiling when I see her, and I've begun to do little things to help her out a bit. She doesn't mind me being here. Wether that's because she doesn't know I exist or honestly doesn't mind I don't know.
I needed her. Admired her. Adored her. Obsessed over her.
I love her.
There are times when I worry about what could happen to her. I don't know if I'll be able to save her like I was able to save my past love. I know I'll try, but the thought kills me.
...Well, it would if I wasn't already dead...
At the end of each day, laying next to her was pure bliss. Her bed was too small, but I didn't mind- it only gave me an opportunity to get close to her.
She never minded how close I got either. Each night, her warmth would fill me completely. It was always enough to satisfy me through the next day. Sometimes, she would lean into me without even knowing it. Never aware of just how close she actually was to me. Her head would rest on my chest, hovering there as my breath rocked her into a deep sleep.
I loved to run my fingers through her soft (h/c) hair. She never woke up when I did, but she'd always smile and give a content hum.
This girl was my world. She was everything I ever wanted in life, and being with her made the pain go away. She made it all worth it. She made death bearable for me.
Her alarm always woke us too soon, she would roll out of my arms and wipe the sleep from her eyes. I would still lay there, watching her as she edged to the side of the bed- dreading her day of work- before standing and getting ready for the day.
When she went into the kitchen, she tilted her head at the coffee machine. She always did forget to turn it on before going to bed, yet there it was- the coffee hot and ready to be poured. I couldn't help but chuckle at her. If it weren't for me, she'd never have her coffee in the morning.
As she got ready for the day, I moved her shoes to the front door- knowing she would be late and regret kicking them off randomly the night before. I also put out a pair of socks for her as well. She constantly put off doing her laundry and I could always get away with washing a few socks without raising suspicion.
Besides, she would probably get pissed if I took on the task of doing everything for her. Especially when she just talked to her mom last night, insisting that she could take care of herself and that moving out wasn't a mistake.
She hardly noticed the shoes waiting for her and only took advantage of their perfect placement before throwing them on and running out of the apartment. I followed closely behind her, locking the door since she forgot to do so herself.
"Shit!" I herd her swear under her breath as she glared at the elevator. A sign that read "out of order" was halfheartedly posted over their doors. I could feel my anxiety beginning to rise as she sprinted towards the stairwell, she was never good with stairs.
Five times she tripped, running down the concrete steps as fast as she could manage. Each time I grabbed the back of her collar and yanked her back up. Seriously, what would this klutz do without me?
I ran behind her while she sprinted to the bus stop, hopefully today she'll make it in time- though I found it unlikely. She was already winded, her speed slowing down as she got closer to the stop. Her toes kicked into the sidewalk in the same damn spot every time. And once again I grabbed her before she could fall. Then she was up again, still sprinting towards the bus.
"Levi!!!"
My feet stopped following her. As much as I tried to I couldn't move. My body was frozen, all I could do was turn to look for who called my name.
Standing across the street was none other than that idiot Eren Jager. He had that stupid glow around him and I knew he was here to pick up somebody.
That was his job. When he died he moved on and became an angel. He returned to Earth only to pick up the souls of those who died.
"No." I whispered, my eyes heating up with dread.
"I'm sorry Captain ... I'm so sorry..." Eren said softly, his head turning to watch the girl I loved so much.
"NOOOO!!!" I screamed, desperately willing myself to move but being unable to. "JAGER YOU BASTARD LET ME GO!!!" "I'm sorry.. I'm sorry." Eren continued to use his powers to keep me still.
She stood at the bus stop, pouting from missing her bus and waiting for the next one to arrive.
Every thing seemed to be moving in slow motion. A soft wind was blowing through her silky (h/c) locks of hair and slightly ruffled her clothes. Little pale pink petals fluttered around her from the sakura tree beside the bus stop. Patches of sunlight made by the shadows of the tree seemed to dance around as they illuminated the beautiful features of her face.
A few sapphire petals with amethyst tips fluttered around her head in the wind. She seemed intrigued by them, forgetting her upset mood and smiling brightly as she watched those brilliant petals.
Her beautiful smile, that never ceased to dazzle me, stayed on her face as she knelt down to pick up one of the blue petals from the sidewalk.
I heard the car speeding closer before I saw it. Someone was driving too fast and not paying attention, their eyes glued to their phone instead of the road ahead of them. I could only watch in horror as the driver swerved off the road and destroyed my love. My ears filled with screaming which I only realised were my own when I could finally move again.
My heart pounded in my chest as I began to run to her. I could only hear my heavy breathing and pounding heart as I drew near. The sound of a never ending car honk and panicked clamour of people seemed to fade into the background as I sprinted toward my love.
She laid on the ground, blood pooling around her on the cold concrete. Both the pale pink and sapphire petals became stained with dark crimson as they landed around her.
Those beautiful (e/c) eyes I adored were fading, not even looking around. That lovely smile of hers had been wiped from her now blank face.
She had no idea what had happened. People cried around her, some calling for help.
Help won't come soon enough for this though. I fell to my knees when I got to her and frantically grabbed for her hands. Desperate to feel her warmth before it faded forever. Desperate to feel her soft skin before I would never get to do so again. Clinging onto the feeble hope that maybe she'd be okay.
But I knew it was all in vain.
"You got me to fall in love with you just to leave me like this? C'mon, please, wake up...."
I clenched my eyes shut, letting the hot tears roll down my cheeks as my whole body began to shake with quiet sobs.
I was empty for so long. So many years had passed since I died and I felt nothing but indifference and sometimes little spikes of anger and annoyance the whole time. After so long of nothing but a tea spoon's range of emotions this woman came out of nowhere and started to make me feel the emotions that I'd forgotten how to experience. I felt joy, admiration, humour, worry, and even love thanks to this woman.
I felt alive again when I was with her.
But now.... Now my entire world has shattered once more into nothing but the numbing death sentence of anguish and agony.
"Please.. don't leave me! You damn brat!"
I huffed out those words through my sobs, not knowing what else to do or say as I blindly wallowed in my grief.
"...H..hey..."
I could hear her sweet yet quiet voice ring through the air. I instantly opened my eyes, praying that she had actually said something and I wasn't just desperately grasping for straws.
But there was no difference. She was still lying limp in a huge puddle of her own blood, growing cold as her life faded away.
"H-hey! A-are you alright?"
I slowly tore my gaze away from her bruising body lying on the ground to stare in utter shock at the woman standing beside me.
There she was. My love. Slowly kneeling beside me, a confused look plastered to her face. She seemed fine, her outfit was in order and there were no injuries on her body. She seemed oddly calm considering what had just happened.
She began to look at the slow motion like chaos around us. Tears began to spill from her now worried (e/c) eyes as she began to piece together the situation.
She took in the panicking people around us, the wrecked car, the damaged bus stop, and began to stumble backward when she looked down and saw her own bleeding corpse on the pavement.
"W..who's that?! What happened?! What's going on?! W-why can't I remember anything?!" Her voice began to tremble as she began panicking. I slowly began to stand as I comprehended what had happened.
My love was dead, and now her spirit is here and she's just figuring out what happened to her.
She began to stagger backward even more and tripped, falling through a road sign and landing on her back on the ground. She pulled up a bit, resting on her elbows as she looked at the pole that was going through her stomach. Of course she wasn't hurt, but that didn't mean she wasn't terrified.
"Kyaaaah!!! W-what the hell?! W-why can't I feel anything?! What's happening to me?!" She shot up and ran towards the crowd of people. "P-please! Help me!! Somebody!! Please!"
She reaches out for a man and screams in anguish and confusion as her hand phases through his arm.
Flashbacks of when I first died ran through my mind. I was so scared, so confused. It was horrible.
I began to walk towards her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. I was a bit shocked to find that her intense warmth was gone. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She was still warm to me, it just wasn't as intense a heat as it used to be. We had basically the same temperature now. It was fascinating to me that now I felt the warmth I did when I was living. Obviously we were both freezing cold now, but I felt like I actually had heat of my own now that our body temperatures weren't so drastically different.
"It's gonna be ok. I know, this is all so confusing and scary, but I'll help you get through it. I promise. C'mon, pull it together brat." "P...pull it.. together..?"
I think she calmed down a bit, I felt a little relieved.
"Are you... freaking insane?! That woman is dying! There's a huge wreck! People are screaming around us! I have no clue how I got here, who I am, or what's going on! No one is even acknowledging my existence! And I'm phasing through things!!! How the hell do you expect me to 'pull it together'?!"
Oof. Well that could've gone a lot better.
"Look, (Y/n), I know how you're feeling. Everything's a jumbled mess of fear and confusion. I've been through this. Please let me help you."
She came to a sudden stop. "(Y-Y/n)..? T-that's my name. I... I remember.. standing by the stop and then blinding pain.... T-THAT'S ME!!" She pointed towards her body on the ground. People were already gathering around it trying to help her survive.
"Am I... Am I DEAD?!"
I looked over towards her body lying in the ground. Guilt and fear consumed me as I thought about what to say next. "Well... not completely yet. Your gone far enough that your spirit left your body, but your organs are still trying to keep your body going. I'm sorry. I'm so.. so .. so sorry."
She collapsed to her knees. Clearly she wasn't ready for the truth yet. Maybe I should have been a little more considerate of her situation and emotions.
Tears began to fall from her eyes. I gently reached down and placed my hand on her head, softly caressing her (h/c) locks as the ambulance pulled up to the scene.
"Who are you. Why are you here? Why do you care about what happened to me?"
It took me a moment to register the questions she asked. She'd calmed down a lot after I started comforting her. "I'm-"
"CAPTAIN LEVI!!"
Tch. Great, here comes Jager to take her away! I... I won't let him!
"GET AWAY YOU DAMNED BRAT!!" I yelled out to him as I gently pushed (Y/n) behind me. "Captain... Levi.... Are you.. THE Captain Levi?!" Her melodic voice pulled me away from reality for a bit.
"Ah.. yes, yes I am. Well I.. I was before I died. Ah! But that doesn't matter right now! You.. I won't let him steal you!!" "Where would he take me? Who is he?"
Eren sighed and made his way across the street to us, unfolding, stretching, and flapping his magnificent white wings as he did so. I glared at him, knowing fully well that he was only flaunting them to impress her and get her to go with him.
"That repulsive prick-" "HEY, WATCH IT! There's a lady here y'know!" He cut in gesturing towards (Y/n). "Is known as 'Little Shit'. Sometimes we call him 'Fucker', but mostly we call him 'Annoying Brat'. 'Fuck up', 'Moron', and 'Bitch-face' are also acceptable names."
Eren was fuming now and looked like he was about to lose his shit. Good. Serves the bastard right.
(Y/n) on the other hand was trying to hold in her laughter. Keyword: trying. I could hear her tiny snickers and even though her hand covered her mouth I could still see her smile.
God I loved her smile.
Eren huffed in annoyance and straitened his stance. He looked like he was about to fire back a smart ass remark of his own, but seemed to think better of it when I glared at him. "That's right, you'd better hold your tongue. I'm still your captain you little bitch, just because you're an angel now doesn't mean jack shit. I'll still kick your ass Jager. So don't even think about pissing me off. Where's my salute? I'm waiting!"
He let out a little "Eep!" And quickly stood at attention in the all too familiar salute. "Sir, yes sir!" "That's better." I crossed my arms and (Y/n) stood up behind me. I glanced back and saw she was smiling a bit. Good. Today's been hard enough on her, I'm glad she can still smile.
"Ah.. but Captain. It's my job to bring miss (L/n) here with me back to Heaven. It's her time and-" "I said NO you brat. It's not happening. I will not lose her too." Eren sighed and turned to her instead. "He can't hold you back y'know. If you'd like to come with me.. you can. Oh! And my name is Eren. Eren Jager. Pleased to meet you!" The little shit put a big goofy grin on his face, and held his hand out towards her as if to shake hands."
He waited a while and his smile faltered when she just stood motionless next to me. "Wow! It's so awesome that I got to meet Captain Levi and Eren Jager!! But ah... I'm not going to shake your hand." HA!! Deal with it Jager!
"How do I know that you won't just take off with me once we touch? You are an angel after all. I'm not ready to leave yet, and besides, Captain Levi hasn't answered my questions yet! And... I... well, some part of me feels like my place is here with him. Besides that, I for one think that spending time with him is a lot better than Heaven!"
Hearing her say that made me beam with joy and pride... well on the inside anyway.
"Ach! Fine! Fine. But you're stuck here until I get another opening to visit okay? So if you decide that staying with this asshole was a mistake later on, I'm not gonna take you to Heaven right away and you're staying here on Earth. Got it?!" She laughed and said it was fine.
The next moment Eren was flying away and we were walking home together with light conversation. I was so happy. Even though her life had ended, maybe.. just maybe she'll fall in love with me too! Then we can start a new life of our own, together.
