From End to Begining
A big city in 2018,
Levi's POV:
I sighed, looking out the window of my penthouse apartment at the busy streets far below. Early morning traffic had just begun as people all began to rush to their jobs at once. Car horns and other city noises filled my ears as I watched the sunrise. I could still picture the woods that once flourished here. Now there's nothing but cement and stone.
I walked through the empty rooms of the penthouse, appreciating the silence. Quite a lot has changed since I died.
I spent the last 200 years wandering around the place of my death. I was unable to leave the area and I was unable to move on to the "other side". Honestly, I couldn't even tell if I was supposed to go to heaven or hell, given my past.
At first, everything was okay... I got to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the forest and was able to relax. Then, after about oh... 10 years or so, the freed people from the walls started to build closer and closer towards the forest. It was a little annoying, but it was bearable. A young (h/c) haired woman with a walking problem named (Y/n) would always come visit me. She laid flowers and things at the entrance of a small cave next to where I died, often thanking me and crying. Eventually, she got married and her visits became less and less often until she just stopped coming all together. It made me sad a bit, but I understood that she'd moved on so I was happy that she'd found peace with her new life. The years flew by and I watched as a city began to grow.
About 3 years from the current date, an expensive high rise apartment building was built right over my death place. Annoyed by all the loud noise, construction, and mess, I decided that I'd stay in the nicest room they had.
Which brings us to today.
I smirked a bit, remembering how I'd made that brunette man run screaming. He was the last tenant of my apartment. I didn't like him. He was loud, stupid, destructive, and above all he lived like an absolute slob. So I decided he had to go. I'd say he lived here for mmmmm.... about 2 weeks.
I sometimes felt guilty for running out the old land lords tenants, but it wouldn't be a problem in the first place if he'd just get respectable human beings to live here. I let out a sigh and went to inspect the damage done to my apartment by that pig. Fully knowing that today was going to be another long day with nothing interesting to expect.
(Y/n)'s POV:
(I knowww!!! It's finally you!!)
I happily skipped down the street, holding onto the piece of paper with my new address written on it. My (h/l) (h/c) hair bounced with me, my bright (e/c) eyes looked all around at my new surroundings. I was so close to seeing my new penthouse apartment!
I couldn't believe how cheap it was, especially considering it was a penthouse! I passed by a park on the way to my new home. Something bright caught my eye and I stopped skipping to look at it. There, in the middle of the park, was the famous Ackerman Statue. The sun reflecting off his hair had caught my attention. The statue was among the first things to ever be brought to this city. It was said to have been built in the year after the captain's death in order to honour him and give him a final farewell. All of his squad members pitched in money to make it happen, and it was placed here at the city where the captain had met his end.
It was an image of the most famous captain of the Survey Corps, Levi Ackerman, standing on a pedestal. He'd been one of the key players in freeing humanity from the titans, and was also known for leading the squad that had the equally famous Eren Jager, the titan shifter.
I decided to take a closer look at it and made my way across the street to the park. As I walked along the paved path in the park I noticed all the beautiful blue and purple roses that covered almost the entire park.
Eventually I got to the statue that'd caught my eye and let out a sigh as I ran my hand along the plaque at the side of his pedestal.
" In honour of our beloved captain, who gave his all, taught us well, and sacrificed himself for one of our own. We're going to miss you captain.
-Eren Jager
-Mikasa Ackerman
-Armin Arlert
-(Y/n) Schult
-Hange Zoe
.... "
At the bottom we're the signatures of all the people who were on his equally famous Special Operations Squad.
I traced my finger over the signature that had my name. I felt something being next to this statue. It was a mixture of pride, honour, sadness, and a small bit of longing. For what I longed I do not know. I just felt like I was missing something.
I looked up into the stone eyes of the humanity's strongest soldier, studying his face. I only noticed that I was crying when my vision became blurred. I was missing something. I wasn't complete. The feeling of emptiness and sorrow only grew the longer I looked at his stone features.
I turned away and wiped the tears from my face. Today was a day for smiles, not tears. I continue my journey and eventually make it to the apartment building. All the way at the very top was my apartment! I could see that it had a wide garden balcony from here! I let out an excited squeal and began to run towards my new home!
I went through the spinning doors to find a beautiful and ornate lobby. There, behind the counter, was an old man with greying blonde hair. He looked to be in his eighties.
"Hello Mr. Arlert!" I gave the man a bright smile and held out my (s/t) hand for him to shake. The kindhearted old man smiled back and lightly shook it. "Hello miss (L/n), I presume? I grinned and nodded. "The one and only! But please sir, I might be your new tenant but you don't have to be so formal. Just call me (Y/n), please." He smiled brighter then.
"You sound like my great, great, great, grandfather. My grandmother used to tell me that he was always so polite." I tilted my head a bit. "Who was he? If you don't mind me asking.." He shook his head and motions for me to follow him into the office behind the counter.
As we walk in I can see that not only is it an office, it's his living space as well. "My great, great, great, grandfather was none other than Armin Arlert. A member of captain Ackerman's squad." "Woah.." my eyes grew in wonder as he pulled out a picture of a young man in the Survey Corps uniform holding a book. Though it was in black and white, you could tell he had blonde hair and blue eyes.
He took back the photo and began pulling out papers for me to sign. "Yes ma'am. I even have his old journal. He wrote many stories about his adventures with Eren Jager, Mikasa Ackerman, and even Captain Levi himself!" I smiled brightly as he handed over the papers and I started to sign. "Wow that's amazing! I wish I was related to one of those squad members! You must have so many things from the days of the titans! Umm why does this one say I am required to stay at least a year or else I won't be able to stay at all?"
I pointed to the last page I had to sign. "Yes, I do have many of his things, including some items that belonged to the captain as well! And that's... well.. In all honesty, I've never been able to get someone to live there for more than a few weeks before they're begging me to move out. I think the longest residential stay was about two months, and that poor woman left screaming something about a man in the shower." He lowered his voice and seemed to be muttering to himself. "....I mean, I don't blame him that woman was wretched..."
He suddenly looked a bit surprised and shook his head a bit. "Ah! B-but not to worry! I've made extra security precautions and I can assure you that there will be no breaks in's! There's absolutely nothing to worry about!" I looked at him, a little confused but not enough for me to actually question him. He seemed to sigh with relief when I didn't question him.
Anyways, I wasn't about to let some Stange story chase me away from a penthouse! I signed the last paper, and he smiled, giving me the key and instructions on what the few rules of the building were and on how to get to the bus station from here.
I thanked him before bowing and leaving him to go see my new home! I stepped into the elegant elevator and pressed the top floor. I was practically bursting with excitement as I reached the top floor!
The golden doors of the elevator open to show my own private lobby! At the far side of the room is my door! I step out of the elevator and make my way across the ornate room and use my key to open the door. It glides open to reveal a stunning modern apartment! Of course there's no furniture just yet, my moving truck hasn't come and the only things here are what came with the apartment. I wandered around, planning out how I'd set up my new living space.
I found the kitchen, and was thankful that all I had to do was supply the dishes and food. They had lovely granite and mahogany cabinets and counters, complete with a stove, oven, dishwasher, and a wide sleek refrigerator.
"Well at least one room is almost done." I thought aloud, envisioning where I'd put up my decorations. There were two bathrooms whose counters matched those in the kitchen. They too were almost complete and just needed a few touch ups here and there.
I found my way to the large living room and was pleasantly surprised to see a grand piano! Behind it were these huge glass windows that let you see out to the city and my own personal garden! As I went out the glass doors to the balcony, I was greeted by the sweet smell of my own personal cherry tree and many more of those blue and purple roses I saw earlier. There was a hot tub, and a fountain, and there was even a nice little gazebo!
"Wow this balcony is insane! I could read my books over there! And have afternoon tea over there!" I eagerly started planning my new life.
This was going to be amazing!
Levi's POV:
This was going to be hell!
I'd just finished cleaning the apartment from the previous tenant, and already I heard the door open with an excited squeal. The sign of a new female tenant.
I let out an exasperated sigh and walked through a few rooms until I got to the living room area. I turned and looked through the glass windows to see her dancing about the garden.
Her back was turned towards me and her (h/l), (h/c) hair seemed to dance with her as she flitted about the garden. I could already tell I wasn't going to like her. The spastic energy she gave off made me feel like she'd be a total klutz and would be an even worse slob than the last guy!
I scoffed and continued to watch her. She eventually stopped and turned around to come back into the house. I was taken aback at her features. Her (h/c) hair framed a beautiful (s/t) face with two shining (e/c) eyes. I couldn't believe how closely she resembled my beloved cadet.
She seemed to smile at me through the window, and came through the glass doors to stand in front of me. "I just can't believe it! It's a dream come true!" I stared at her, dumbfounded that she could see me.
She came closer, I assumed she would stop right in front of me. But she continues to walk and goes through me to sit at the piano. Of course. She hadn't seen me at all.
I walked around to the other side of the piano and watched her play a few notes. She grunted and pulled up her fingers to inspect the thin layer of dust that'd come off the piano. "Gonna have to clean this place."
Well, at least she seemed to care about cleanliness. I tried to get a better look at her face when the doorbell rang and she left to go check it. "Tch." I was a bit annoyed at the fact she wouldn't stay still.
Images of cadet Schult flashed in my mind as I again tried to look at this new woman. She signed for a package and closed the door once she received it. She carried the big box to the edge of the living room with some difficulty before setting it down and opening it.
She pulled out a few cleaning supplies, a few hygienic necessities, a stuffed pillow case, and a blanket with the pillow that should've been in the case. Then she collapsed the box and took it outside the apartment. She came back in shortly after that, and started to dust the piano off with a rag she'd gotten from the box.
I studied her as she moved. She seemed so familiar, looked almost exactly like her. No. I know she's not the same. That woman must've died long ago. This is not the same person. I sighed and sat down on the piano bench as she finished dusting it off. Even though I'm positive she'll annoy me and will have to go, I'm appreciative that she's actually taking the time to clean. After all, there's only so much I can do. I'm dead, and it's not like the last tenant left cleaning supplies.
Both of us jumped when a loud noise blared throughout the silent apartment. "Oh my alarm!" She stopped dusting and went to her purse, pulling out a phone and stopping the alarm. She then gathered her purse and a business bag and left the apartment, locking the door behind her.
And once more I was alone. I took this time to go through her things that'd been delivered. Nothing of interest really. A few clothes, and a few books were in the pillow case, that was about it.
I sighed and turned towards the cleaning supplies, eager to use them on this filthy apartment. It's not like she'd notice, and even if she did it'd only help me get her out of here faster if she got scared.
