A forest in 1818,
Levi's POV:

My heart was racing and my salty sweat dripped from my face as I used a bit of my remaining gas reserve in my 3DM gear to launch myself at the gigantic titan bearing down on Eren. I didn't have much left, but it should do just fine for now.

This was it. Today was the day we finally set humanity free! I reached the back of his neck and grunted as I slammed my well sharpened swords across the nape and brought him down. The hot steam of the beast spewed out at me, the horrible smell filled my nostrils as my clothes and dark hair billowed in its force.

Eren was already fighting three other titans in his titan form, he didn't need this one adding on to his struggles. As I watched him take out two of the three, I smirked a bit. It was finally going to end. We were finally going to be free! And maybe... just maybe I could confess my love to her. Yeah. I'd like that.

My life's been so miserable. But now... now that the titans brutal rein over humanity is finally coming to an end I might actually have a chance at a happy life. I long to share that happiness with her.

"Captain Levi!!! Captain Levi!!" I looked away from Eren in his titan form towards the sweet voice of my beloved. The scene of her cheerfully coming towards me, her long (h/c) hair billowing behind her as she used her gear to get to my location, made me smile a bit. Saphire blue roses with amethyst tips littered the forest floor beneath her and grew all around where I was standing.

Her face seemed so full of joy, and her bright and happy laughter only added on to her beauty. Yes. This was my love. My beautiful, cheerful, and precious cadet. She was all I had. The only brat who never annoyed me, and always seemed to make me happy. She was my only light in this pitiful dark world.

She landed amongst the roses, their delicate petals billowed and danced around her beautiful frame. She waved and grinned at me and shot off again, her gear latching onto a tree just behind me, she'd be here soon. I waved back as she made her way closer to me.

"Hahaha!! Captain Levi!! It's almost over! Aren't you excit-AIIIIIIII!!!!" My heart sank as I watched a massive hand come out of the trees and grab hold of her lines, throwing her off course and slamming her into the ground. The tree behind me was pulled down by the new force exerted on it.

Her beautiful and cheerful voice changed into a bloodcurdling scream. Without thinking of my insufficient gas supply, I shot over to save her. Everything seemed to move in slow motion.

50 meters away.
The titan came from behind the trees as she got up.

40 meters.
He started to stumble closer to her as she began to run in my direction. She must've twisted her ankle as she was limping, her speed greatly hindered.

30 meters.
The titan picked up its speed, not wanting to miss a meal. My poor sweet cadet tried to go faster and fell over a tree root.

20 meters.
My gas gave out and I started to fall to the earth. 'NO!' The titan was right behind her now. She screamed again as she tried to scurry away on the ground.

15meters.
I hit the ground and rolled, getting up and starting to sprint as I tried desperately to save her. Banging on my gear in a hopeless attempt to get it started again. The damned beast had roughly grabbed her by her leg. She screamed out in agony and fear as she desperately clawed at the roses and ground, trying to escape as she's lifted in the air.

9 meters.
I shove off my gear to lighten my load, I'm so close I just might make it! The titan begins to stand from its squatting position. The few roses she has in her hands fall to the ground as she's lifted up, their petals flow towards me in the wind.

5 meters.
I look up at her grabbing my sword and aiming at the titans eye. The titan begins to raise her towards its rotten, stinking mouth. "LEVI!!!" She calls out to me.

4 meters.
I throw the sword, it hits my mark with deadly precision. The titan roars and drops her. "LEVIII!!!! She screams as she plummets towards the ground.

0 meters.

I made it just in time to catch her and slide along the ground a bit. She's in tears as she tightly clings to my chest. I hold her close and begin to run away from the titan with her in my arms. Her sweet, cherry blossom, scent fills my nose as I continue to take her farther and farther away from the monster.

I opened my mouth to say something but stop when I feel the ground vibrating beneath us. Our only hope is to get Eren's attention. Nobody else was around. My heart pounds in my chest as I run through the forests' thick foliage. The rose petals drift all around us.

Eren turns away and starts going farther away from us. "NO! Jager I swear to god you turn your ungrateful ass around right now!" Obviously, he was too far away to hear my command. I managed to find a small cave. However... only one of us could fit.

"Captain Levi please.... Please leave me. My leg... it's broken. I'll only hinder you. Save yourself." I shushed her and began to quickly, but gently, shove her into the cave. Once she was as far back as she could go I looked her in the eye and handed her my green cloak.

"I'm sorry." The titan was right on us now. It's wretched hand reached for me. I pulled out my flare gun and began to shoot out as many rounds as I could, hoping to catch anyone's attention.

"No!" She softly called out from her sobs as the hand stared to close around my waist. I dropped the flare gun and pulled out my remaining sword. I started to dodge but the monster grabbed my sword from me and flung it away. 'Shit!'

As it's other hand grabbed me I noticed that Eren and another member of our squad were making their way towards us. Good! They'd seen the flares! But.. they're too far away....

My heart pounded and I could hear it's beating in my ears. As I was brought closer to the titan's gaping maw I called out to her.

Tears pricked at my eyes as I smiled down at her. She'll make it.

"(Y/N)!!! I LOVE YOU!!! I LOVE Y-!"

Pain. Red, hot, searing pain. The horrible smell of death and decay. And then... black. Everything was calm. I felt... nothing.

I don't know how much time passed. Days? Weeks? Months? It seemed like forever since I was..... I was..... What.. was I doing? Something important? I can't remember.

I opened my steely eyes to be met with the nights sky peeking at me through the trees of a forest. I was laying spread out on my back amongst a bed of beautiful sapphire and amethyst roses. Where was I?

I stood and dusted off my white pants. I was in a uniform of some sort. It consisted of knee high boots, white pants, a light grey button up shirt, lots of buckles and straps, a tan jacket with some symbol on it, and an ascot. I looked around the dark woods. Surprisingly, I could see just fine even though it was clearly late into the night. In the distance there was a small flickering light that had a warm yellow glow. I made my way over to it. I felt strange. Light, cold, and empty.

I finally got to the light, it appears to be a bonfire at which several people in the same uniform I'm in are gathered. The only difference is they don't have ascots and they all have a sort of green cloak, of which I do not own. I observe them from the tree line, trying to figure out if they're harmful or not. A beautiful woman with long (h/c) hair is sitting in a wheelchair sobbing into an extra cloak.

"Hey! That's my cloak you brat! Don't get your shitty tears on it!" I slightly surprise myself as I call out to her and march up. I swipe at the cloak and I'm now holding it in my hand. Or so I thought.. while I did seem to have my cloak in my hands, I turned to see that nothing had changed. The strange woman was still crying into my cloak as though I'd never been there.

But how could that be? I had my cloak right here, in my hands! I know I grabbed it, i was holding it right now! Tch, whatever!

I put on the cloak I snatched and noticed that she didn't even acknowledge my presence. Come to think of it, all the other people that surrounded the bonfire seemed depressed and didn't take any notice of me.

Some brunette idiot in glasses with a ponytail was downright bawling on the dirty ground. "Tch. Hey look here you shitty glasses! Tell me what the hell is going on! Who are you people?! And get off the filthy ground would you?!" I yelled at her and still got no reaction.

"Don't ignore me!" I went to hit her but was greeted with an unpleasant surprise. My hand passed through her head! I shivered and felt like puking. "W-What the hell?!" The woman shivered as I continued to try and slap her in a shocked and frantic state.

"H-HEY!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs and went from person to person as I tried desperately to get them to notice me. I went through each person! I backed up and found myself looking through flames at the people around me. I was standing in the fire! But.. I didn't feel anything!

W-What happened to me? Why can't they see me?!

The woman in the wheelchair brought the copy of my cloak that she was holding up to her lips and kissed the collar of it. "I love you too... Captain Levi."

...Captain Levi....

Her soft voice seemed to echo around me as everything rushed back all at once and I realised who I was, who these people were, and what had happened to me.

I was dead.
