Chapter 5: Punishments

Piper

For once, Percy's little gang (Travis, Connor and Leo) didn't get in trouble. This time it was me. Tomorrow was the school social and I was excited. That morning I got changed in my room. I chose a tie-dye shirt and a light denim jacket. I wore dark denim pants and braided my hair with a feather. I put on a bit of makeup and then went to school. Annabeth was waiting for me, holding some books. Ever since we befriended each other she'd became more confident and stood up to Drew.

Not everyone could do that though. I was walking to the entrance when I heard a sob. I ran to the side of the school with Annabeth following me. I saw a small girl who was crouching down being stood over by Drew. She had freckled cheeks, red hair and pale skin. "You suck, you're a loser!you deserve to die!" The girl sobbed more. "Leave her alone," I ordered. Drew looked up. "Oh..you want me to leave alone this little dweeb?" she asked. I stormed forward. "Leave her alone!" I exclaimed. "Nah. You both deserve to die. Go to hell!" I soon had enough. I punched Drew.

Yeah, you heard me. I punched Drew. It wasn't a friendly punch. It was hard. Drew sobbed and she ran away. "You're gonna regret that!" she exclaimed. Her cheeks was bright red and tears spilled down her face. What did I do?

In the afternoon I got taken to Principle Brunner's office. "Drew told me you punched her." he said. "Is that true?" Guilt racing through me I answered.

"Yes. I punched Drew."

Principal Brunner looked at me. "Well you'll have to be punished. I know Drew was bullying someone so she will be punished too."

"What is my punishment?" I asked, trying to stop my voice from shaking,

"Tomorrow you won't go to school. You can go to the social but...not the school day," he said. "You can go now," he said. I nodded and left the office.

At the end of school, Annabeth came to my place.

"So you just can't go to school tomorrow?" she asked. "That doesn't sound that bad." I nodde grimly. "I know. It's just...I shouldn't of punched Drew. It was the wrong thing to do."

Annabeth met my eyes. "I don't think so." I blinked. "What?" I asked, stunned. "Drew deserved that. She was bullying that poor girl. You did the right thing." She smiled confidently and that made me feel so much better.

Hazel

At the end of school I trudged out with Katie. She smiled at me. "It'll be okay," she promised. I raised my eyebrows. "I-I don't think so," I whispered, my voice cracking. Katie started running. "Come on!" she said. I jogged after her and together we went home. Our houses were right next to each other so we could come by whenever we wanted.

We went into Katie's house and into her room. I sat on her bed and she sat next to me. "Drew did the wrong thing," she said. "She will be punished." I stared at the floor, not feeling so sure. Drew has bullied me ever since last year. It was...awful. She had been putting me down and hurting me. And I couldn't do anything about it. Katie did though. She told the principal and Drew was getting a major suspension. Katie gripped my hand. "It'll be alright," she whispered. "Come on! Let's watch a movie or something."

She turned on the tv and they watched a movie. At five o'clock, I had to go. "Bye," I said. "Bye!" Katie waved as I left. I went into my house and lay on my bed. I couldn't be bothered to eat that night. My eyes closed and I fell asleep.

I woke up that morning and had some cereal. After the breakfast, I got changed into dark blue denim jeans and a light blue and white dye shirt. I tied my hair up in a ponytail and I grabbed my bag and walked to school with Katie. "It'll be alright," she murmured to me. "I know," I said, nodding.

Katie and I talked before class started outside the ELA classroom. I saw Travis and Connor walk past us and Katie glared at Travis who in turn smirked. Katie scowled. "What a jerk, right?" I nodded shakily. "Yeah, sure. What's he done to you?" Katie shuddered. "Well, I sat down in class and I didn't notice a whoopee cushion there and I sat on it." I nodded. She didn't need to on. "You sure you don't like Travis?" I teased. "Never," Katie said. "Never in my life."

When we went in class, Katie and I sat next to each other. She glanced at her chair before sitting then sat down. We had to go in groups of four for our project. And the teacher had already assigned them...

"Piper, Annabeth, Jason and Percy." Percy and Jason were shooting daggers at each other as they assembled their group.

"Frank, Leo, Calypso and Reyna." The group assembled without any argument, much unlike all the others.

"Hazel, Katie, Travis and Connor." Katie was shaking with anger. She walked stiffly to Connor and Travis. I joined them. "So..." Connor said. "What are we doing again?"

"Researching and writing a group biography on a famous yet minor person in American history," she said, her voice full of anger. I couldn't blame her. "Okay..." Travis said, obviously bored. "Who will we do?" Katie scowled and opened the textbook they gave our group. I watched, amused, with Connor as we worked on, Katie and Travis bickering. "I ship them," he murmured to me while the two were distracted. I nodded. "Yes, we do."
