Annabeth's POV

I walked to the next class after with Luke by my side. I shouldered him away as he tried to kiss me on the forehead. It wasn't that I didn't like him, I just didn't want to be in a romantic relationship with him. Ever since Luke broke up with Thalia for her, Thalia started hating me. I thought of earlier how Drew Tanaka was yelling at me and I got shoved into Percy. My heart pounded against my chest as that happened. I remembered how I stared into his mesmerising sea-green eyes and got lost in them. Then I ran away. 

The next lesson was Science. The teacher, Mrs. Smith partnered them up. "Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson." Percy looked at Thalia who mouthed the words, good luck as he walked to me. "Thalia Grace and Travis Stoll." Thalia groaned and walked over to Travis who was next to where Percy and I were. "So..." Percy said, looking bored. "What do we do?" I stared at him, shocked. "You weren't listening?" Percy shook his head. Thalia snickered next to him. I started working. I couldn't be bothered to explain to Percy. Thalia and Travis has abandoned their work too and were talking with Percy. I ignored them and went to work on the chemistry. 

When I was done I got top marks. Unfortunately Percy got top marks too. Thalia and Travis got detention for not doing any work. They didn't seem too annoyed about it.

At the end of the day, I trudged home. I saw Percy, Thalia and Jason goofing around in front of me, laughing and talking. Percy looked back and my heart started to pound. He didn't seem to notice me and my heart settles down. "Wait a second," Percy said. Thalia and Jason stopped, not looking back. I continued on as Percy tied his shoelaces. I passed him. Percy stood up and jogged to Thalia and Jason, shooting me a look I don't quite get. He looked...annoyed and angry and sad?

At home, I opened my laptop and went on Facebook. There were lots of messages from Drew. I didn't bother to look at them, just deleted them and blocked her. I searched for Percy Jackson and found him. I clicked on his profile, my heart pounding. I usually know what to do but now...I don't. I guessed... I liked him. I created a private chat with him and typed the words:

Have I done anything to upset you?

I went on Goode High School's Facebook page and see that their is a Social there at the end of this week. I go on my messages with Luke:

Luke - Are you going to the Social this Friday?

Annabeth - I guess. Are you?

Luke - Yep! Gtg now, bye

Annabeth - Bye

I went off and lay down on my bed. Usually, I would study. But I didn't want to. I felt too miserable. About an hour later, I opened my laptop again. Percy had replied. My heart pounded. I started talking to him:

Percy - no

Annabeth - Then why are you acting so hostile?

Percy - ...im not

Annabeth - Are you going to the Social on Friday?

Percy - are u asking me out?!

Annabeth - NO. Just wondering

Percy - phew. I was worried for a sec

Percy - well yes I probably am going 

Percy - gtg 

Annabeth - Okay. Bye.

I closed the laptop lid. I heard the doorbell ring. I went downstairs and opened the door. My heart pounded even more as I saw who it was.

Luke.

"So, what are you doing here?" I asked him. Thank god my dad and step-mom and her sons were out at the moment. "Just wanted to see you," he said, kissing me. I stared. "What's wrong?" Luke asked, gripping my hand gently. "Just...sad about the whole Drew thing," I lied. "Hey," Luke said, buying my fib. "It'll be alright." I nodded. His phone buzzed. "It's mom," he said. "I have to go. Bye." Luke left and for a second, everything was fine. Until I was filled with guilt. I wanted to be friends with Thalia again. I wanted to break up with Luke. But I couldn't.

I went downstairs and started to take a walk. That was when I saw Thalia. "Annie!" Thalia greeted, her voice cold. "Look, Thalia. I'm sorry. Can we just please be friends?" I begged, on the verge of tears. Thalia strode towards me and gripped my shirt. "No," Thalia spat. She let go and I staggered back.

"Wait!" I exclaimed. "What if I broke up with Luke? You know I don't like him like that." Thalia hesitated. I needed my friend back. I really did. "Fine," she said. "Fine." Thalia's hard expression softened and she smiled. "I'm sorry," Thalia whispered. "I'm sorry too," I replied. Thalia and I started talking and all the tension between us faded away. My phone buzzed. It was Luke. I turned off my phone and placed it in my pocket. "I have to go," Thalia said. "Bye." 

"Bye," I called as she walked back. 

I went back home. After dinner, I lay in bed. My eyes were heavy and soon enough, I fell asleep, exhausted.
