Chapter 1: First Day of School

Percy's POV

Me and my cousins, Jason and Thalia, walked into high school together. We had all moved to Goode High that year where my stepfather taught. When we went inside, I dumped his bag in my locker. I leaned against it, talking to Jason and Thalia. For siblings, Jason and Thalia looked nothing alike. Thalia had black hair with a pixie cut. Jason had blonde hair. Thalia was quite pale compared to Jason. The only thing they had in common was their electric blue eyes.

"Get lost!" a voice yelled and a girl with curly blonde hair was pushed into me. I blinked as the girl's cheeks flushed bright red. She was holding a pile of books. "Sorry," she mumbled and ran away. I turned back to Thalia and Jason. "Who was that?" I asked. "Annabeth," Thalia replied. "My old friend. Too much of a nerd though."

Jason grinned. "Did you see her blush? She likes you, Perce!" I smiled faintly. "I noticed," I said dryly. Jason gently punched his friend's arm.

"Who do you like, Jase?" Thalia asked her brother. "No one," Jason said, his smile fading almost immediately. "I never said I liked her," I told Thalia.

"You shouldn't," Thalia muttered. "She's a pain." And with that, she stalked off.

I couldn't help but feel that she was wrong. I shook my head. The door opened and a girl in heels walked in. She had choppy brown hair and her face was plastered with make up. "Abort! Abort!" Jason joked to me and the two of us went off.

While walking down the hallway, I noticed two twins scheming in a corner. A girl was gawking at one of them. The girl from earlier, Annabeth, was waiting outside a classroom, her nose buried in a book. The girl in makeup suddenly appeared behind me and Jason. "Gah!" I exclaimed. "Who are you?" The girl turned to them, her expression calm. "I am Piper McLean. Daughter of Tristan McLean." She smiled a smile that was fake. Some girls gasped and ran to her. I knew the actor. I didn't like him though. The movies he was in were terrible. Finding Dory and the Little Mermaid were so much better. I noticed Jason staring at her. I clapped my hands in front of my cousin's face. Jason blinked.

"You like her," I teased. "No I don't," Jason said innocently. "You do!" I said in a sing-song voice. "I don-" The bell suddenly rang. "Let's go to class," Jason said, his cheeks red.

Their first class was maths, much to my disappointment. I was dyslexic and all the numbers jumped around on the page. The teacher had assigned them set spots. I was placed at the back, behind Annabeth and next to a burly Chinese-Canadian boy. He was busy working. I tried to copy some answers from Annabeth. I got the first ten answers for the questions from her then I had to work by myself. I groaned. "Be quiet, Jackson," the teacher, Mrs Dodds said. After ten minutes of doing nothing, I started to write down some random answers. I was one of the last people done.

After the class they did sport. We were doing swimming. I was ready, so was Jason so we started to talk. "How was the maths lesson?" Jason asked me. "Copied the first ten answers, then I got the last ones by using my super smart brain." Jason raised an eyebrow. "You guessed it, didn't you?" he asked. I nodded. "You guessed it?" Annabeth practically screeched. I nodded. "Yeah. So?" Annabeth fumed. "That was one of the most IMPORTANT tests." Jason frowned.

"It was a test?" he asked.

Annabeth nodded.

"On the first day?"

Annabeth nodded again. "Yep."

Jason and I both rolled our eyes. "Go away, Annabeth," Thalia said. Annabeth walked off, her eyes flashing angrily. "Thanks, Thals," Jason said. "Don't call me that," Thalia growled. At least she was smirking.

We started by doing a swimming race for all the students. "Four laps cupcakes!" Coach Hedge yelled. I got ready to dive with all the other students. "Three, two, one. Dive!" Coach Hedge yelled. I dove in and started to swim. I swum forward, at a fast pace. I made it to the other end and did another lap. Once I was done all four laps, I touched the wall and crawled out. I was first! I grinned. "We have a winner!" Coach Hedge exclaimed. "Percy Jackson!" Almost everyone clapped. After some more swimming training, PE was finished.

"Okay, class over," Hedge said. "Get ready for lunch!"

I sat with Jason, Thalia and some more people: Travis and Connor Stoll, Katie Gardner, Will Solace, Nico Di Angelo and Clarisse La Rue, Rachel Dare, Silena Beauregard and Lou Ellen. "That was great during PE, Percy," Rachel said. "Thanks," I said. "Hey," Thalia said. "Look at old Annie there, sitting alone." She pointed to Annabeth whose nose was in a book. I felt guilty as I, among most of the people on the table laughed. What did Annabeth do to Thalia that was so bad? I started eating my burger. Then I noticed Luke Castellan sit next to Annabeth. Thalia visibly shook with anger. They started talking, then I saw Luke kiss Annabeth on the forehead. I remembered Thalia talk about how she used to have a relationship with Luke. That's why Thalia was so angry. We continued to eat, sharing stories about previous schools or their classes. Me and some other people laughed after Jason shared a funny story of his first day in high school.

Everything was great, yet something felt so wrong...
