The Cutest Babies Pt.1
(Yeah, so, I got some time to write another chapter and thought I'd post it 😅)
"No way, you're not due yet. You're only eight months pregnant." Adrien panicked as well.
"Hurry up and drive us to the hospital, NOW!" Alya was the first to react and dragged Adrien out of the door.
Adrien panicked and sped to the hospital in his black Maybach.
Whilst driving, he looked at Marinette who leaned on Nino for support as Alya held her hand nervously,"Are you okay? "
Marinette's contractions had already started and she was sweating profusely.
"I'm fine... Don't worry about me."
"Dammit woman! You, stop pretending. How can you be fine at a time like this?"
Her calmness made Adrien's heart ache.
When they reached the hospital, Adrien jumped out of his car and picked Marinette up in his arms. He ran into the building as fast as he could. Seeing her in pain was tearing him apart...
Alya and Nino rushed after them, concern etched on their faces.
The obstetrician checked Marinette and said, "The cervix is opened wide enough, we need to take her to the delivery room."
"Adrien... I'm so scared."
On their way to the delivery room, Marinette grabbed his hand. She held onto it with her life...
Marinette was really scared. Adrien had known her for so long, this was the first time he saw this much panic on her face.
At this moment, her face was turning pale. . .
Marinette was completely drenched in sweat, but she clenched her teeth and didn't make a sound.
Compared to the other patients, she was a fighter.
They were screaming in pain, because everyone has different pain tolerances.
Marinette always had a high tolerance and a strong backbone, so she refused to admit to being in pain.
But right now, she was simply terrified. She knew how dangerous it was to give birth to twins naturally. There were cases of mothers dying due to excessive blood loss...
She was scared that she might not come out. What if something happened to her?
"Don't be scared, m'lady. I'll wait for you here. I believe in you. Nothing can bring you down." Adrien clutched her hand tightly.
Alya raised her eyebrows when she heard him address Marinette as 'm'lady ', but didn't prod further. This wasn't the time for that...
Marinette's breath was weak.
It might be due to the pain that her voice grew softer and softer.
"If...if I do not make it back—" Before she could finish, Adrien exploded on her.
"I don't want to hear that. Nothing will happen to you, you got it? You and your babies are going to be fine. I-I believe in you. "
When he said that, Adrien was on the verge of breaking down.
His eyes were damp…
This iron-blood man feared nothing but her tears.
Hearing something like that at a moment like this made those words sound like her last. It was only natural for him to lose his cool...
"I'll try. " After a bit, she replied softly.
"You can't try... You have to... I'll wait for you guys here, 'kay? "
At that moment, they reached the door of the delivery room.
Adrien was stopped by the doctor.
"Mr. Agreste, you can't go in... You should wait here..."He comforted before disappearing behind the closed doors.
Adrien finally stopped.
At that moment, he couldn't stop his tears from falling.
Alya kept a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Nino was worried, "Uh, what are they going to do? She's not full term yet."
"Don't panic. I heard that the babies are fully developed after eight months… It shouldn't be a problem for her to deliver now. They can keep the babies in the incubator for a few days. She's going to be fine. "
"Mhm. " But he still panicked.
Alya sighed. She was having a hard time with these two children when her best friend was in early labour…
She suddenly spotted Anarky and Marinette's parents walking over to them in a hurried pace.
Sabine asked, "We came as soon as possible after you called us. Is she in?"
Alya nodded...
Gabriel called Adrien at that moment.
"I called her cell several times. But she isn't picking up. Is Marinette with you? "
"Uh.... She is in labor early. . ."
"Already? How many months is she? "
The older Agreste seemed to be spooked.
"Eight months and five days."
"Oh, that sounds about time. Did she give birth? "
"No, she was just pushed into the delivery room."
"Okay. When she delivers, call me. I have a meeting to attend."
Before Adrien could reply, he hung up the phone.
Adrien anxiously scratched his head…
He had never waited for the birth of a child before and was really dying of anxiety. If he could take her place, he would.
The delivery rooms were connected, and blood curling screams came out the nearby rooms.
He could hear the pain in their voices...
Adrien nervously paced around and didn't know what to do...
Sensing his discomfort, Alya sent him downstairs to buy her a bottle of water in an attempt to distract him a little...
----------------------------------
Marinette had been struggling in the delivery room for five or so hours...
At about one in the morning, the doctor walked out, exhausted.
"Did she deliver? Doctor, how's my daughter? " Sabine immediately walked up and asked.
"She did. Don't worry, both the mother and children are safe. "
When they heard that, everyone let out a giant sigh of relief.
"Doctor, are they twin boys or girls? " Alya excitedly asked.
The man smiled, "One boy and one girl. They're really pretty too. "
"That's great... oh, I'm an aunt now!! " Alya was overjoyed from hearing that she now has both a niece and a nephew.
Anarky's hands were shaking from excitement and she couldn't say a word.
"So, I'm officially a grandmother? Ah, two little children." Sabine felt her heart melting. She looked at Tom who had a huge grin on his face and grabbed his hand excitedly...
Adrien was still stunned and wore a mixed expression on his face.
His excitement couldn't be expressed in words. It was as if Marinette's kids were his own.
When women are four months into their pregnancies, they can tell the children's gender using colored ultrasounds.
However, Marinette refused to find out the gender of the babies to preserve a sense of mystery.
If she found out too early on, she wouldn't be surprised.
She didn't care if the babies were boys, girls or one of each, as long as they were healthy and safe.
"Where are the babies? " After a brief pause, Adrien asked the doctor.
"They've been taken to the NICU. They're too small and need to be kept there for a few days. The patient is exhausted and needs to rest at the hospital. Right, who is her direct relative? You need to sign some papers... "
"I am... " Tom followed the doctor to the office.
"Let's go and see Mari."
Sabine was in a great mood. She linked her arm around Anarky's and walked into the room, followed by Adrien and the couple.
In the way there, Adrien excitedly gave the good news to his father.
"Dad.... Mari delivered. "
"One girl and one boy... "
"Okay, I'll tell her. I'm going to hang up now. "
He happily ended the call.
"What did he say? " Nino smiled.
"Ah, he said that he can't wait to see them and was going on about buying the little babies presents. He also asked me to convey his congratulations to her."
"The ol' man finally showed some emotions, huh? " Nino laughed.
When the group walked into the room, Marinette was already conscious.
She looked fragile and pale…
"Maman….mother….Alya," she smiled, "Nino, Adrien....!! " She greeted them with a weak voice.
"Dearie, you did great. You delivered the twins naturally, at least they didn't give you too much trouble. Did you know? You had one boy and one girl." Anarky squeezed her hand and gently said.
Marinette nodded feebly, "The nurses told me when I was in the delivery room… They are really healthy, but a little underweight. They were only seven pounds together…"
"This isn't too bad. . . They're a pair. They'll be just fine after a few days in the NICU. Don't worry about anything and take care of your body… You're moving back with us. I'll take care of you and the babies for the next few months..." Sabine said with happy tears brimming in her eyes.
"Thanks mom. " She smiled at her mother.
Marinette chatted with Alya while Anarky and Sabine went to see the babies.
After a while, Alya nudged Nino secretly and both of them walked out of the room, leaving Adrien and her alone.
Adrien had stood silently at the corner of the room all this time, watching her talk with Alya. Now, he slowly approached Marinette, looking at her with his heart aching.
The first thing he asked was," Does it still hurt? "
The bluenette laughed and shook her head, "It doesn't hurt anymore. I thought I was going to die of pain. When I had asked Mylene how it felt, she told me that giving birth was equivalent to breaking a dozen ribs. I thought my pain threshold was pretty high, but I still felt like dying…"
"It's all over now, m'lady." He comforted her.
"Mhm."
"I'm going to go see the babies in a bit. You should get some rest."
"Okay. " Marinette smiled.
It was evident that the warm glow of motherhood radiated off her face.
He walked to the door, turned around, and looked at her gentle smile.
"Actually…." Adrien started to say something but stopped himself. He smiled and did his very famous 'Chat Noir' two finger salute to her to which she giggled, and walked out.
After a while, the Dupain Cheng couple and Anarky returned with wide smiles on their faces.
The latter walked to a corner to call Juleka and convey the good news to her.
As soon as Alya saw Sabine, she eagerly asked, "Auntie, can you be with Mari now? I want to go see the babies... "
"Okay, go ahead. "
She wet a towel in hot water and wiped Marinette's face patiently.
"Mari... You finally gave birth… That's great, you don't have to suffer anymore."
"Haha, yeah. Mom, did you hurt a lot when you had me? "
" No, sweet. You were a good girl since you were born. I barely had to wait for you to come out... " Sabine lovingly kissed her forehead. "Did you think of a name? You can take it slow with the official names, but you need nicknames. It's easier to take care of them that way... "
Marinette thought for a bit, tilted her head and said, "Er… the official names are, um. . . Etienne and Aimée. And the nicknames are Blue and... oh, Ames..."
(So, I changed the names here because I realized that Emma and Hugo were the names of Adrien and Marinette's children. Sorry Emma and Hugo fans!! 😟)
Sabine smiled and as if she suddenly remembered something, she hurriedly took her phone out, "Bridgette called. You should video chat. She wanted to see how you were doing. "
On one hand, Marinette happily spoke with her cousin.
On the other, Adrien, Alya and Nino stood outside the NICU, staring at a pair of a boy and a girl through the glass window.
"Do you see them? It's them, the ones in red stripes... " Alya excitedly pointed at the twins.
Nino said, "Whoa! That dude is only a child but rocks from even now! And that girl is so sweet…aww..."
While the couple fangirled over the babies, Adrien leaned closer to the window and frowned, "Guys, didn't the nurse say that they were really cute? "
"Yeah, they're super cute. How great would it be if they were my children!" Alya exclaimed and couldn't hold back her excitement.
"But, they look like monkeys….They're wrinkly with big eyes. They have shiny hair, but... Still... Are they really Mari's babies? She's so beautiful and Luka was not bad looking either. So, how are these hers? Maybe they got the twins got mixed up? What do you guys think?"
The couple was left speechless…
