Chapter Seven

Reyna wasn't a soulmate enthusiast, but she was fine with other people being with their soulmates. She didn't care much about the concept herself, but she respected other people for loving it. She was on hundred percent okay with anyone in the world having a soulmate.

Anyone in the world except herself.

Reyna didn't want a soulmate. Or a husband/wife/significant other. Or a friend with benefits. Reyna didn't want any of that for herself, though she would consider marrying for tax benefits.

Despite all of that, she still had a soulmate, unless that tree on her wrist was a really weird birthmark.

The tattoo had tormented her for years before realizing she would probably never meet whoever her presumed "soulmate" was. She'd taken one look at the statistics and laughed at herself.

I was so fucking worried I'd actually end up marrying because I had a soulmate, and I most likely will never even meet him or her or them.

That didn't stop her from wondering if her soulmate was scouring the earth looking for her. From wondering how that person would react if Reyna needed to have that discussion.

She shoved away the thoughts. Now wasn't the time to think about it, she had to focus on getting to Nico's cousin's house, whoever that might be. Reyna was Nico's ride to and from the theatre meeting, as Bianca was busy moving in with her girlfriend. Reyna considered leaving and coming back, but he loved hearing Nico sing, and these meeting were on of the few times she's seen him play live with an audience of more than three people.

Reyna looked back to the road, she was letting her mind wander in the middle of the street.

"Neeks, where do I turn?"

"You don't turn. Go straight," Nico answered. He let his hair droop to the size of a bob, causing the hair to cover his eyes. She almost didn't catch the glance he sent to his wrist and the plus-sign imbedded on it.

"You thinking about him?" Reyna asked.

"Not really."

Reyna snorted. "You either are or you aren't."

"Fine, I'm thinking about him. Turn left here."

Reyna turned her blinker on. "Have you met anyone who might fit?"

"Yeah, I met this guy he came up to me and said 'Hey, I'm going to be a doctor.' Love at first sight," Nico said. His voice was filled with exaggerated lust.

"Was he hot?"

"Hotter than Satan."

Reyna laughed as she turned. "Nope, I don't believe that. Satan is the most attractive guy you will ever meet. I would give Satan a high-five."

Nico howled. Many of those acquainted with Nico dubbed this a rare experience. If he even smiled the joke must have been hilarious. But not with Reyna, for her, Nico just let loose. "You would give Satan a high-five!"

"Who the hell wouldn't?" It was in moments like these when she realized why her mother left.

"I don't know, God?" Nico said between laughs and snorts. "You need to turn right on the next one."

Reyna made the turn into a very rich looking neighborhood. The sign was made with marble and in golden cursive was the name Shingslade Prince. She wouldn't be surprised if it were real gold. "Holy shit," she muttered. "You didn't say your cousin was rich."

"They're the kids of Beryl Grace," Nico said nonchalantly. "What would you expect?"

"Wait, you're related to Beryl Grace? As in Hallmark movie special guest that isn't so special anymore and Disney channel debut but the show didn't blow up so she stayed in Disney until she got in a movie that made 0 seem decent Beryl Grace?"

"The fact that you know that much about her concerns me."

"The fact that you expected anything else from me." Reyna gazed at the mansions running down the streets. "When do I turn?"

"Now."

Reyna slammed on the breaks. "There isn't a..."

"Exactly, that's their house," Nico said with a smile. "Hopefully the Aldermans won't sue you."

Reyna sighed as she parked. "When I'm a lawyer, I will never defend you."

"And make me pay," Nico said.

Reyna laughed. "You will being paying double."

Nico grabbed his guitar case, he gave Reyna an incredulous look. "Aren't you coming Rara?"

"What?"

"Do you not want to come?" Nico asked.

"No, I just didn't think I would be able to breathe the same air as someone who lives in such perfection of a house," Reyna said.

"You've been to my house?"

"Your house is an old victorian home you see in movies. This is a literal palace." Reyna got out of her car. "And, yeah, your house is more beautiful, but this is insane."

"Yeah, well Jason's room is bland as fuck, so you will not have to worry." Nico threw down the trunk. "Now come on, you can always leave."

Reyna didn't know how she felt about Jason. Naturally, as soon as she met him, Reyna threw up her defense mechanism. Standing up straighter, giving a hard stare, become much more tense. It clearly threw him off, he seemed to loosen up when he thought she wasn't looking. Same thing with Nico, a man who wasn't Zeus Jupiter opened the door when he knocked.

Reyna wanted to know more about her best friend's family, but she really wanted to find out why Beryl Grace and Zeus Jupiter Whatever-His-Last-Name-Was separated. She hadn't seen it on any of the magazine covers by the cash register she went to just an hour before, Jason looked like he was comfortable with the guy, the only reason Reyna knew something was up was because Nico tensed.

"I don't know who the hell this person is," He'd whispered. "The only reason I'm not calling the cops is because Jason looks comfortable."

"You aren't going to call the cops?" Reyna said in response.

"Jason knows him."

Jason later explained Beryl Grace was currently dating some random lighting guy she'd met on set. "Thomas is okay, but I don't know how Thalia is taking this."

"Thalia does not care."

Reyna turned to see a girl with fair skin and electric blue eyes, similar to Jason's. That's where the similarities ended. Jason's hair was blond, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to know Jason was on overly-optimistic guy. Thalia, on the other hand, had dark hair cut short choppily. She had on a shirt with a blanket over her shoulders. Reyna didn't blame her, it was getting colder by the day, and this houses air conditioning was too cold.

"Honestly, as long as she isn't home as much as she usually is I don't care what she does." Thalia jumped on the bar. "You took the best counter," she said to Reyna.

Reyna snorted. She had sat on the quartz countertop by the fridge, it was the only place where Reyna could lean on something. "Oh well."

Thalia smiled. "Nice phone case."

Reyna glanced at it. The colors forming the aro ace flag with the words You're All In The Friendzone written in black. She smiled and looked at the blanket Thalia had, the color orientation was the same. "Nice blanket."

Thalia laughed. "I'm Thalia."

"Reyna."

"Nice to meet you, where did you get the phone case?"

"Amazon."

"Everything is from Amazon," Thalia muttered. "But, Thomas doesn't seem to care about me. He cares about Jason. Probably because people listen to Jason more than me."

"When did you even meet him?" Nico asked. He'd loosened up when Thomas went up one of the many flights of stairs.

"Yesterday."

Nico raised a brow at Jason. "Yesterday?"

"Yeah," Jason said. "Mom said they'd been seeing each other for a few months."

Reyna heard a very, very loud bark from the hall accompanied with the door closing.

A boy around Jason's age walked in. He looked more like Thalia with the black hair and slightly tanned skin. His eyes were sea green and a giant fluffy dog jumped on Nico.

"Who the hell is that guy?" said the boy.

"Thomas, Mom's boyfriend," Jason answered.

"The fuck?"

The dog seemed to find Reyna interesting after drowning Nico is slobber. The dog sniffed Reyna's foot before licking it.

"Mrs. O'Leary," said the boy.

The dog bounded to him after licking Reyna's face. "Sorry about her," said the boy. "She's just excited."

"It's fine," Reyna said.

"When did Thomas happen?"

"Mom said they've been in a relationship for a few months," Thalia said as Percy slid onto a barstool. "He's fine."

The boy nodded. "Is there any food here?"

Jason rolled his eyes. "Percy, why do you always want food?"

"Because I'm hungry all the time." He opened the fridge. "Are we waiting for anyone else?"

"Yeah," Thalia said. "Hazel and Sadie. When they get here we can interrogate each other about Mythology because I don't know what I am going to do when the project is announced."

"Who's Sadie?" Nico asked.

"She's a friend of mine. Carter's sister."

"Carter Kane?"

"He has a sister?" Reyna asked.

Thalia shrugged. "According to Sadie. I didn't invite Carter, he's too much."

Sadie and Hazel came about thirty minutes later. Once introductions were over, conversations flowed easily.

"Okay, I need help with mythology," Thalia said.

"Mythology is the easiest class," Sadie said. "Why would you need any help."

"Because I wasn't paying attention, Sadie!"

"Well, Paul says some teachers are going to study Arachne to help with summaries," Percy said. "So start paying attention."

"I don't care about that, Percy. I care about mythology because if I fail that class..."

"If you fail that class we will laugh at you," Nico said.

Reyna awoke the next morning relatively early. Her dad was in Puerto Rico for the weekend with Hylla, so Reyna didn't know how she woke up at nine on a Saturday morning.

She glanced at her ankle. It had been tingling for a while and she froze.

"Fuck."

On her ankle, in white, grey, green, ad purple was the aro ace flag.

I DID IT AGAIN!

I honestly feel so accomplished because I wrote this like ten minutes ago and I'm so proud of it.

What ship should I do next?
