•Cracked rib•

XV. Cracked rib.

Still reeling from the information on the measurements of my stomach earlier in the morning, I decided to start a list of baby names. I wanted my baby to have at least something that came from me. More than just life.

I sat at the dining room table with a notepad, making two lists of girl names and boy names, just in case. Edward silently came up behind me, slowly approaching. "What are you doing?" he asked softly as he sat down beside me.

I looked at him, offering him a saddened smile. "Making a list of baby names," I replied softly as I fiddled with the pen in my hand, clicking it continuously for a second.

Edward's gaze diverted for a moment as he slowly nodded his head. Silence stretched between us for a few seconds before his gaze flicked towards the notepad. "May I see?" he asked softly, his eyes turning to me.

"Of course," I replied softly as I nodded my head, pushing the notepad towards him. "I've circled the ones I like a lot," I explained as I anxiously eyed Edward while he looked over the names.

Edward took his time to really look over each and every name on my list and then he slowly nodded his head. "I like the circled ones as well," he told me softly as his gaze slowly lifted toward me, and we shared a small smile before our attention returned to the list. "Atlas and Delia," he whispered as he pointed at the two circled names. "I like these two."

"They're my favorite as well," I replied as I nodded my head, my smile just starting to grow on my face before I cried out in pain, my hand shooting up to my burning and aching side.

"Ana?" Edward called out as he shot up from his chair and crouched down right in front of me. One of his hands reached out and planted itself firmly on top of mine over my side while the other rested on my stomach.

"Ana?" Carlisle called out as he rushed into the dining room along with Rosalie.

I held my hand up as I tried to take deep breaths through my pain. "Give me a second, Carlisle," I told him, grabbing onto Edward's hand that rested on my stomach, holding onto him for comfort.

"Ana," Carlisle urged as he stepped closer to me. "I heard something crack. I need to take a look." he insisted.

"Pretty sure-" I spoke through ragged breaths, my teeth clenched and my grip on Edward's cold hand tight. "It was a rib," I told them. I moved my hand across my side and brushed against where the pain was the worst, where the cracked rib was most likely. "Ow." I gasped as my face scrunched up and Edward carefully took my hand away from my painful side. "Yep. Right here." I whimpered softly.

"I need to take an X-ray. There might be splinters. We don't want it to puncture anything." Carlisle explained gently as he gave me a concerned look.

"Okay." I breathed out, face still scrunched up in pain. I stood up and both Edward and Rosalie reached for me.

"I've already got her." Rosalie spat at Edward as she carefully took hold of my arm and steadied me on my feet.

Edward grabbed Rosalie's hand, prying it off my arm before pushing it away. "She is MINE, Rosalie." he snarled at her, his eyes wide with anger. "Mine."

Rosalie snarled back at Edward as she took a threatening step forward, but I quickly stopped her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Rosalie, it's okay," I assured her softly.

She looked at me, hesitant for a moment, before nodding. She backed off but she still accompanied us to Carlisle's office, offering her support like always while Carlisle taped up my side.

As me, Edward and Rosalie returned to the living room, we found two guests waiting for us with Esme. Rosalie tensed when she saw the two wolves, Edward's eyebrows furrowed and a small smile tugged on my lips.

"Seth? Quil?" Edward questioned with confusion on his face as he looked between the two of them, wondering why they were there.

"Hi, guys." Seth greeted us with a sweet smile as he gave us a wave.

"Ana." Quil greeted, a smile tugging at his lips as he approached me, carefully wrapping his arms around me in a gentle hug.

"Quil." I greeted softly, patting his back before pulling away from him. "It's so good to see you," I told him sincerely.

"You too," he replied with a small smile as he took my arm and led me towards the couch, helping me sit down. "You look like crap." he teased lightheartedly.

I snorted in amusement as I looked up at him. "Yeah, I know." I agreed and Quil chuckled softly as he sat down next to me while Edward sat down on the other side of me.

"Where's Jake?" Seth asked, raising his eyebrows as he looked around the room before his eyes darted between me and the three vampires.

"Can't you hear him?" Rosalie questioned, rolling her eyebrows as she sat down on one of the lounge chairs. "His snoring is getting tiring," she muttered bitterly.

Esme shot Rosalie a sharp look for her impoliteness and then turned to look between Seth and Quil. "Are you two hungry?" she asked them as a small and polite smile graced her lips. "You must be from all the patrolling."

"I could eat," Seth replied, nodding his head at Esme while rubbing his stomach. "Quil?" he questioned as he looked over at the young wolf beside me.

"Yeah." Quil also agreed, nodding his head as he looked over at Esme.

Esme offered them both a smile as she nodded her head before turning her attention to her son. "Edward." she urged him.

Edward looked over at Esme, raising his eyebrows as she nodded her head in the direction of the kitchen. "You offer, but I'm the one cooking?" he questioned, and she nodded, making me chuckle softly at my husband's expense.

Edward got up and went to the kitchen, where he spent a good few hours cooking various dishes for breakfast. There were eggs, omelets, bacon, toast, cinnamon rolls, and waffles. Seth had been kind enough to take something of everything for Leah and to no one's surprise, she rejected the food.

As I, Seth and Quil sat in the living room, eating from our over flowing plates, Jacob came into the room, stretching out his arms as he let out a stifled yawn. "About time," Rosalie muttered as she shot a glare towards Jacob. "The chainsaw impersonation was getting a little tired."

"Hey, Jake's coming around!" Seth cheered, his voice a little muffled by the piece of waffle he was eating.

Jacob looked at Seth and then at Quil, his eyebrows furrowing to see them hanging out in the living room of the Cullen house. "They came to find you," Edward explained to Jacob as he sat beside me, his hand resting on my stomach. "And Esme convinced them to stay for breakfast."

"Not a lot of convincing was needed," I muttered playfully and Quil stuck his tongue out at me before taking a big bite of his cinnamon roll.

"Yeah, Jake we were just checking to see if you were okay 'cause you didn't ever phase back. Leah got worried. I told her you probably just crashed human, but you know how she is. Anyway, they had all this food and, dang," Seth ranted as he took another bite of his waffle, humming in delight before looking at Edward. "Man, you can cook." he praised.

Edward chuckled as he looked at Seth. "Thank you," he replied as he nodded his head.

Jacob visibly had to bite back rolling his eyes. He wasn't sure what was pissing him off more, Seth praising Edward, Seth, and Quil hanging out here, or Quil sitting so closely beside me. If that had been him, both I and Edward would have ripped into him. But neither of us cared when it was innocent Quil.

"Leah running patrol?" Jacob questioned, deciding it was better for everyone that he didn't open his mouth on what was bothering him.

"Yeah," Quil replied as he nodded his head, munching on a piece of bacon. Jacob's eyebrows furrowed as his eyes squinted. "She's on it. No worries. She'll howl if there's anything." he assured.

"How long have I been out?" Jacob questioned as he raised his eyebrows.

"A good few hours," I replied with a nod of my head as I ripped off pieces of my cinnamon roll and ate them.

"Crap." Jacob cursed as he squeezed his eyes shut for a second. "Sorry about that, Seth, Quil. Really. You shoulda kicked me awake." he apologized as he looked between Seth and Quil.

"Nah, man, you needed some serious sleep," Seth replied as he waved Jacob off and shook his head. "You haven't taken a break since when? Night before your last patrol for Sam? Like forty hours? Fifty?" he ranted as he continued shaking his head. "You're not a machine, Jake. Besides, you didn't miss anything at all."

Jacob nodded his head and took a seat on the lounge chair close to the couch where I sat. "How's the rib?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows.

I looked at him for a moment, surprised he knew but then I figured he could most likely hear everything that went on in the house. "Taped up nice and tight," I told him as I patted my side and shrugged my shoulders. "I don't even feel it."

Jacob silently stared at me for a moment, eyes squinting in suspicion as he nodded his head.   "What's for breakfast? O negative or AB positive?" he asked teasingly as he raised his eyebrows at me.

I scoffed and playfully rolled my eyes as I grinned softly at him. "Omelets," I corrected as I motioned to my plate and Jacob returned my grin as he nodded.

"Go get some breakfast, Jake," Seth insisted as he nodded his head in the direction of the kitchen. "There's a bunch in the kitchen. You've got to be empty."

Jacob looked between Seth and Quil and their plates and then raised his eyebrows at them. "What's Leah having for breakfast?" he questioned as his eyes squinted at them.

"Hey, I took food to her before I ate anything," Seth insisted as he held his hands up in defense. "She said she'd rather eat roadkill, but I bet she caves." He insisted as he raised his cinnamon roll, smiling at it. "These cinnamon rolls..." he mumbled softly.

Jacob rolled his eyes before standing up. "I'll go hunt with her then." he insisted and turned around and walked away without muttering another word.
