•Kidnapping•
XV. Kidnapping.
When I walked into the house, I saw my mom gathering her things as she got ready to head to the hospital for her night shift. I shrugged off my pink sweater and threw it, along with my bag, onto the couch. "Hey, mom." I greeted as I offered her a smile.
She glanced at me over her shoulder as she tied her hair into a low ponytail, returning my smile. "Hey sweety, how was your day?" she asked as she raised her eyebrows. She was aware I had gone over to Angela, but I did have to tell her about my on-whim decision to see Jacob. Before she found out on her own and I extended my own grounding for myself.
"Good."I replied with a nod of my head as I sat down on the couch. I nibbled on my bottom lip as I stared at her silently for a second. "They didn't need me at work so I went down to La Push and went to see Jacob." I informed her in a soft voice. "I hope it's okay that I went down to La Push?"
She turned around to look at me, raising her eyebrows. "You went to see Jake?" She asked as her lips parted and I could see the corners of her lips turn upwards.
"Yeah." I confirmed with a nod of my head as I crossed my arms over my chest, shifting in my seat as I sat back on the couch.
She allowed her smile to spread onto her lips. "Oh... Good." She replied as she slapped her hands together in front of her.
I took a deep breath, pulling my lips into a tight line. "Don't get your hopes up, mom." I replied softly as I shook my head. She stared at me, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Things are still tense." I explained as I shrugged my shoulders.
"At least you saw him." She replied as she offered me another smile. She glanced down at her wristwatch and gasped at the time before looking over at me. "Look, I have the night shift, so I have to go." she told me as she grabbed her things.
I threw my head back against the couch as I watched her rush towards the front door. "Bye, drive safe." I called out after her with a small smile on my face.
"Bye!" She called out before rushing out of the house, closing the door behind her.
The second I heard her car pull out of the driveway, I heard a thud upstairs in my bedroom. Edward was usually very silent when he came in or out of the house. He wanted me to know he was up there and waiting for me.
I took a deep breath as I prepared myself for the conversation we were about to have. I got up and slowly dragged myself upstairs. I pushed my bedroom door open and stood there on the threshold. My room was dark but light from my window illuminated Edward's face. He was standing with his back against one wall, slowly turning around to face me with an upset look on his face. He inhaled and I could see him flinch slightly before he held his breath.
I silently stared at him, waiting for him to be the first to speak, but he remained silent as he blankly stared at me. I sighed deeply. "Edward..." I whispered as I stared at him with an apologetic look on my face. I was apologetic of going against his back, but not of seeing Jacob.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was?" he asked me in a low voice as he raised his eyebrows. He continued his questions before I had time to answer. "Do you have any idea how close I came to crossing the line today? To breaking the treaty and coming after you?" He asked, his voice growing a little louder. "Do you know what that would have meant?"
"That you have completely lost it!" I replied with a huff as I reached up and gripped the hair at the sides of my head before stepping into the room. "They'd use any excuse for a fight!" I insisted, knowing Paul was probably itching for one.
"Yeah well maybe they're not the only ones wanting a fight." he muttered in a low voice as he shrugged his shoulders at me, his jaw clenching as he turned around, his back facing me.
"Do not start." I warned Edward as I walked over to him and moved to stand in front of him, my eyebrows deeply furrowed. "I'm allowed to have a life outside you, Edward." I whispered as I stared up at him.
His lips parted and he stared at me in disbelief. "Do you really think that's what this is about?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows. He scoffed as he shook his head. "I'd rather have you hang out with Mike Newton than that mongrel." he informed me, his voice harsh. "If he'd hurt you-" he began but I quickly cut him off before he could finish his threat towards Jacob.
"Enough!" I yelled as I waved a dismissive hand through the air. "He didn't hurt me." I said as I waved a hand over my body to show I was unharmed. "He wouldn't." I added as I shook my head.
"You can't know that!" He argued loudly as he shook his head at me. "It takes a split second, just a second, Ana, for him to lose his cool and phase." he said as he stared down at me, his eyebrows furrowing. "It's what happened to Emily, isn't it?" he questioned as he quirked a knowing eyebrow.
My eyebrows furrowed as my eyes squinted. "How do you know?" I asked softly as my furrowed eyebrows raised.
"Nothing in this town is a secret kept from me." he reminded me before leaning down so that his face was inches away from mine. "Not even the things you do." he told me and I huffed softly as I lightly rolled my eyes at him. "When Alice called me, I came right back." he informed me.
"You shouldn't have done that." I said as I shook my head, moving around him to sit down on the edge of my bed and he turned around to face me again. "Now you'll have to go away again." I said as I quirked my eyebrow at him.
His pursed lips pouted out as he shook his head. "I can wait." he insisted.
"That's ridiculous." I huffed softly as I stared up at him with parted lips. "I know Alice can't see me when I'm with Jacob, but you should have known-" I begin to defend myself and Jacob as I turn my eyes down to my lap.
"But I didn't!" he yelled as he let out a frustrated sigh and I looked up at him, my lips pulling into a tight line. "And you can expect to let me-" He began to argue with me as he shook his head, but this time I cut him off.
"I don't expect you to let me do anything, because it's not your place!" I yelled back at him as I shot up to my feet, standing inches away from Edward. My arms were crossed over my chest and I had a determined look in my hazel eyes.
Edward silently stared down at me for a second as his jaw clenched. "This won't happen again." he muttered in a low voice as he shook his head at me.
"I will go see him again." I insisted as my head tilted to the side, a challenging look in my eyes as I stared up at him.
He inhaled sharply as he stared down at me, a determined look in his golden eyes. "I'm not negotiating this, Ana." He argued with me as he firmly shook his head.
"Neither am I." I replied as I shook my head and he sighed deeply as he briefly squeezed his eyes shut and lowered his head. I silently stared at him for a second, recalling my chat with Angela. My eyes squinted. "What is this?" I asked softly.
His eyebrows furrowed as his eyes found mine again. "What are you talking about?" he asked in confusion as he shook his head at me.
"Is this jealousy?" I asked him softly as I raised my eyebrows, crossing my arms over my chest. "Because you know better than to be jealous, right?" I asked as my lips slightly parted and my eyebrows furrowed. "Because I have made myself overly clear to both you and Jacob." I insisted as I made a swiping motion through the air with my hands. "If this is a testosterone-fueled thing between you and Jacob-"
Edward cut me off by sighing and shaking his head, his eyebrows deeply furrowing as he stared down at me. "This is only about you and your safety." he insisted as he reached out, gently grabbing onto both my arms.
"You may not believe this, but I am safe with Jacob." I replied softly as I reached out and placed my hands against his hard chest. My lips pulled into a tight line as I stared up at Edward. "At most he annoys me and...pisses me off." I muttered as I rolled my eyes.
A smile tugged at Edward's lips and he let go of my arms, wrapping his arms around my body. "So maybe I should be a little more worried for his safety then?" He asked playfully as his smile turned into a teasing grin.
I chuckled softly, quirking an eyebrow as I playfully nodded my head. I wrapped my arms around his waist as I stared up at him, smiling softly at him. "I really don't want to fight with you." I whispered as I shook my head.
One of his arms slipped from my waist and he reached out to gently cup my cheek with his cold hand. "I don't want to fight either." he replied as he slowly shook his head.
I sighed, pursing my lips tightly for a second. "So what now?" I asked softly as I raised my eyebrows at him.
He sighed softly, his lips pulling into a tight line as he stared down at me for a long second. His nose slightly scrunched and his head tilted to the side. "Don't be offended...but you smell like a wet dog." He told me softly.
His words made me chuckle as I lowered my head, remembering around how many wolves I was today. "Right." I muttered as I nodded my head before looking back up at him again. "Well my mom has night shift, so how about you go downstairs and put a movie on for us, make me some popcorn, and I'll take a quick shower?" I suggested as I raised my eyebrows.
A grin tugged at his lips. "Deal." he agreed as he nodded his head before pulling away from me. He left my room and went downstairs while I gathered my things for my quick shower.
The next afternoon, after my shift at the Newton hiking store, I found Carlisle's black Mercedes waiting in the parking lot. With the loud pop music blasting from the car, I knew it definitely wasn't Carlisle.
My eyebrows furrowed as I walked towards the car and the passenger side window rolled down, I was met with Alice's smiling face. I returned her smile, but the confusion was evident on my face. Usually, Edward picked me up, and after yesterday I almost expected him to work my shift with me today.
"Hey, Alice." I greeted loudly over the blasting music as I climbed into the car. She turned the music down and I turned in my seat to face her. "Where's your brother?" I asked curiously as I raised my eyebrows.
"He left early to go hunt." She explained as she pulled out of the parking lot with screeching tires. Her driving was truly as terrifying as Edward's. "All the boys are gone, and we're having a slumber party!" She excitedly squealed as she shot me a big smile.
My eyebrows furrowed as I put on my safety belt. "A slumber party?" I repeated as I raised my eyebrows at her. She pursed her lips as she nodded in response. I sighed softly. "You're kidnapping me, aren't you?" I questioned. Edward couldn't babysit me so now his sister had to. My mom definitely wasn't going to budge for this one. I was still mostly grounded, even if she allowed me out a little more.
"Till Saturday." She replied as she nodded her head at me. "Esme already cleared it with Eleanor." She informed me and I almost sighed. My mother and my grounding were all that kept me from my lock up at the Cullen house and now I have been failed. "You're staying with me two nights, and I'm driving you to and from school tomorrow." She explained and my jaw clenched as I stared at her. This was Edward's doing. She saw my expression and sighed. "Sorry." She apologized softly. "He paid me off."
"How?" I asked as my eyebrows furrowed in confusion for a second.
A little excited smile tugged at Alice's lips. "The porch." She told me and I was lost just for a second before I was hit with the realization. The yellow Porch from the Volterra. "It's exactly like the one I stole in Italy." She explained and her smile grew bigger.
My head tilted to the side as my eyebrows furrowed a little more. "I thought it was your Christmas present?" I questioned her.
Her smile slowly slipped as she pursed her lips tightly for a second. "I got it early for kidnapping you." She explained softly as she shot me a quick side-eyed look and I sighed as I rolled my eyes.
I silently stared out the window for a long while as I let my anger stir. Edward was going to get an ear full when he got back from his hunt. I truly hope he can feel my anger right now. If he couldn't, he'd feel it soon enough. I sighed and looked over at Alice. "Don't you think this is a little controlling?" I asked as I quirked an eyebrow.
"Not really." She replied softly as she shrugged her shoulders. "You don't seem to grasp how dangerous a young werewolf can be." she told me, a slight scolding manner to her voice. "Especially when I can't see them. Edward has no way to know if you're safe."
"Right because a vampire slumber party is super safe." I mutter under my breath as I roll my eyes. Thankfully Alice didn't seem offended by my words. I thought about being in the house with three vampires, without the one that would protect me to no end. "Can I ask something?" I asked softly as I looked at her and she nodded. "And I'm really not trying to be mean." I explained softly and her eyebrows furrowed, "What happens if I fall and cut open my leg right here, in a house with three vampires?" I ask her.
Her eyebrows furrowed even more as her lips pouted out into a frown. "We have more self-control than you give us credit for." She replied as she shook her head at me.
"So does Jake." I insisted firmly as I crossed my arms over my chest.
Alice shot me a pointed side-eyed look. "Despite himself being dangerous to you, he also got you to ride a motorcycle and go cliff diving." She reminded me with a hint of anger and disappointment in her angelic voice. "He's reckless with you."
I huffed at her words. I was the reckless one. Jacob just didn't try and stop my recklessness. He thrived for all of it, but it was still all on me. "I'm going to kill your brother when he comes back." I muttered in a low voice.
"Well actually you can't-" Alice began to explain and I shot her a pointed side-eye look that made her go silent. "Never mind." She whispered as her focus turned back to the road again, her lips pulling into a tight line.
I sat back in my seat, sighing again. I nibbled on the inside of my cheek for a second before noticing we were heading out of Forks, heading for the Cullen house. "Can we at least go back to my house to get my things?" I asked her as I raised my eyebrows. I was fine with wearing Alice's clothes, but there were other things I'd prefer to be my own to wear.
"Already taken care of." She told me and my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I packed you a bag." she told me as she shrugged her shoulders.
My eyes widened, feeling a bit horrified that she went through my things. I was used to Edward going through my things, my less private things. My underwear was definitely something private. "You went through my things?" I asked her as I raised my eyebrows.
"Only a little." She replied as she gave me an apologetic smile and I slowly shook my head as I shifted in my seat, letting out a sigh. I was going to tear into Edward Cullen the next time I see him.
