8. Calypso

Y'know my day was going just fine before I met the stupid kid with curly hair.

It was just fine. I managed to avoid getting slapped by my dad and got an entire lunch packed. A miracle, trust me.

I had an ideal vision for a soulmate. I really did. I wanted a classic Prince Charming. I know it sounds cheesy, and romantic, and stereotypical, but I longed for a Prince to save me from my abusive father.

Just like in the books and movies. Happy endings come with a Prince.

Then as I entered the school, I went to my locker to put my bag away and grab my English binder. As I locked my locker I started towards English when a small curly haired boy ran into me.

I dropped my English binder in surprise. He didn't seem to notice I'd dropped anything, because instead of being a gentleman like in the books, he just looked at me.

His hair was dark brown, and really curly. His brown eyes had a mischievous gleam that screamed trouble. His skin was dark, a caramel-ish colour. He wore a red hoodie, and orange shirt, and some blue jeans.

"Hey sunshine." He winked at me.

"Go away." I retorted, rolling my eyes in disbelief. "Your wish is my command." The boy bowed before speeding off down the hall.

Geez, what a dolt. No respect. I'm sorry for whoever his soulmate is. Unless they are into scrawny, flirty boys.

As I sat down in English class, a thought crossed my mind. What had the boy said?

"Hey Sunshine'

I stiffened at the thought. Where would he get sunshine out of? It's not like this school has any windows or anything. Unless...

No. Curly boy isn't my soulmate. I refuse.

As soon as the bell rang, the curly haired boy ran into class. 'You've got to be kidding,' I thought as he sat down next to me. I was going to tell him to sit elsewhere before realizing this was the only seat left.

"You again?" I wrinkled my nose.

"You really a ray of sunshine." The boy muttered, patting his pockets. Probably looking for a pencil. It's then I realize the boy didn't bring anything with him.

"Don't tell me you didn't bring any supplies."I  sighed, tiredly.

"Hehehe, oops?" He chuckled sheepishly. "Any chance I could borrow one? And uh, maybe some paper?"

I groaned as my kindness won me over and handed him my spare pencil, and a single sheet of paper.

"Thank you madam." He teased as he wrote something on the paper.

"I'm Calypso." I said stiffly. He might as well learn my name now.

"Leo, bad boy supreme." He winked. I rolled my eyes and shoved my face into my arms on the desk.

This was who I would be stuck with in English for a long time? Wonderful.

I noticed the teacher was keeping an eye on Leo.

Smart man.

Normally I listen to every word the teacher is saying and basically memorize it so I can get an A on the assignment, but I can't get Leo off my mind. Why? I only snapped out of it when I heard the words Essay and Homework in the same sentence.

I stayed behind, to ask the due date and what I could do for extra credit.

After I finished speaking with him, I turned and saw Leo in the doorway. He was impatiently tapping his finger in the doorway.

"What do you want? To give my pencil back?" I sighed, grumpily.

"Oh yeah." He said as he handed back the pencil. "By the way, can I see your soulmate words?" He blurted. He probably thinks he's so smooth.

I looked at him in complete shock. The nerve of this boy to ask for her soulmate words.

"It's none of your business." I glared at him. I hate myself as I feel myself start blushing.

"Stop staring at me." I demanded, turning on my heel. I can't let him see me blush. He'll tease me forever.

"It's my business if your my soulmate." He called. I froze.

"Excuse you?" I said slowly as I turned around.

Leo looked nervous. "uh, you told me to go away earlier and those are my soulmate words so I was thinking-"

When I heard him say this, I let go of the disliking I had for him and actually looked at him as a human rather than an annoying classmate.

I realized just how curly his hair is, the tool belt wrapped around his waist, and how his eyes also seemed to the glow with flames. Not harsh, but gentle.

I sigh and check my arm to see the words although I know the answer. Indeed, the words Hey Sunshine are staring back at me.

"My god." I said quietly, fully realizing that Leo could actually be my soulmate. I looked at him, eyes wide with disbelief.

No. No. No. Leo isn't Prince Charming.

"Well?" Leo asked, failing to contain his excitement.

"Nope." I shook my head, but I think he knows I'm lying.

I decide not to give him a chance to see if he's wrong and spin on my heel without another word.
