1. Pet names and nicknames
Is it bad if I add a children's picture here? Idk, it's just to pretend it's them, but alright. Let's get this starteeeeeed.
It was the first day of school in South Korea. Many kids were on their way to school, sleeping in their parents' car, other kids were already in the institution and scared because they were new students, some adolescents were still on bed, ranting to their parents about how much they hated school and some others were jumping exited because it was the first day of school of their lives.
It was the case of a little Park Jimin, he was so excited to finally go to school and learn the numbers and to draw, it was his main goal.
On the other side, there was another little boy with big eyes, ready to learn to read. Of course he was going to fast, learning to read is a little more advanced, but it was the main goal of Kim Taehyung. That and making friends. But, of course, at that age everyone wants to be friends with anybody.
Around twenty kids were guided by a lovely teacher to their new classroom, their teacher introduced herself and tried to learn their names. And when they were allowed to have a 'break' most of them started talking with everyone immediately, they were talking about the picture of their backpacks and how much they liked theirs because it was from their favorite cartoon. Others were playing already and laughing with their small voices. Some kids were on their seats, wanting to cry because they were alone and they were too shy to speak to other kids, and there was Jimin. He was sitting in front of his little table with a sheet that was being colored by him. He loved the amount of crayons his teacher had supplied for him. He really wanted to learn how to draw just like his father.
The girl who was sitting right beside him also started her drawing, borrowing the crayons, much to Jimin's dislike. When another little hand was added to grab the same crayons, Jimin furrowed his eyebrows and looked at the kid who joined the drawing club. He had big eyes and a smile was already planted on his face.
"Hi, I'm Taehyung." His hand still grabbing some crayons that Jimin didn't want to let go. And Jimin didn't answer, his gaze already turning to his drawing. "I like your draw. He's the Catboy of that cartoon I always watch." He recognized, although it would be very difficult for an adult to distinguish what those strokes were. Jimin's face immediately lit up and let go of the crayons that Taehyung wanted to borrow.
"I watch that cartoon too. I am always Catboy and my mommy is the owl girl." Jimin smiled.
"My mum too." Taehyung sat down besides Jimin and Jimin gave him a sheet.
"Come draw with me." And Taehyung did. They kept talking and playing, pretending they were cartoon characters and laughing for the rest of the morning, and when school was over, they waited for their parents together.
"What is your name?" Jimin asked, not remembering Taehyung had introduced himself before.
"Taehyung."
"My best friend Taetae." Jimin smiled and Taehyung laughed.
"My mom calls me Taetae."
"My mommy calls me Jiminie and baby and sweetheart." Jimin said, remembering the pet names.
"I will call you Jiminie too and baby and sweet-"
The teacher interrupted them in that moment, telling Taehyung to grab her hand because his mom was there to pick him up. Taehyung said goodbye with his hand all the way until he was with his mom. And even after being on his mom's arms he kept looking at Jimin and smiling, telling his mom something and pointing at Jimin. His mom also smiled and then turned around to leave.
"Jiminie!" Taehyung screamed, lifting his little head from his mom's shoulders while being carried. "Goodbye, best friend." And Jimin also smiled.
After that day, they were best friends forever. They played together and learned the numbers together, then they would tell their parents how much fun they had with their best friend. Their parents were very happy that their kids had friends, and they eventually met in a parents meeting at school, finding each kid adorable.
"One, two, three, four, five..." until ten, Jimin could show his best friend how many numbers he memorized.
As years passed, nothing changed, except the callings their parents received because their kids got into fights regularly at the young age of nine. The reason being that the kids were bullied at times for being always away from the other kids and doing activities like painting for Taehyung -since Jimin realized he didn't have that talent, but his best friend did- and math for Jimin, because he was unbelievably good with numbers. The other kids were bothered because, to them, both kids were boring, that's why the other kids used to target them all the time.
Taehyung's dad, just like Jimin's, always told them to fight back when someone was insulting them, but, as years kept passing, the bullying was targeted mainly to Jimin, since he was more sensitive. But Jimin stopped fighting back and Taehyung -even if he was not being the target- got into fight for his friend at sweet age twelve.
The bullying stopped when both guys were fifteen and started the ugly phase of being pubescents. Taehyung developed a deep voice that Jimin made fun of all the time, but the other guys were scared when Taehyung threatened them with that voice. Since then they were free of getting into fights. Jimin was always thankful for it, but he never said it out loud.
Jimin was sitting under the tree outside his house, math book and notebook on his lap and unconsciously biting his pencil. His eyebrows furrowed because he had been stuck in a problem for more than five minutes.
Taehyung was lying on the grass right beside him, with a very familiar sketchbook -for anyone who knew him- on his lap.
"Look at me, baby." Taehyung said, knowing that Jimin would look at him with annoyed eyes. And that's exactly what happened.
"Don't call me that." Jimin said for like the millionth time, but it was just so hard for Taehyung to stop calling him that. He called him like that since they met. The reason being that Jimin's mom called Jimin that way, so five years old Taehyung thought 'why couldn't he?'. Nevertheless, Jimin asked Taehyung to stop calling him that when they turned fifteen, he wanted to ask it many years before, but he thought Taehyung could get hurt since he said it with so much love. But people started calling Jimin ugly things after hearing Taehyung called him 'baby' and they looked at both with disgusted eyes. Jimin grew uncomfortable so he just asked to stop with the pet name.
"But it's so hard. You're a baby." Taehyung whined.
"You're the one who sounds like a baby whining."
"Not with this voice." Taehyung lowered his voice on purpose and Jimin rolled his eyes. "Instead, your voice could be mistaken by a toddler's."
Jimin smacked him on the chest, but Taehyung hold it before he could do it again.
"Look at this baby hand." He teased.
"Agh, stop it, Kim Taehyung." Taehyung stopped because Jimin barely called him his full name.
"Alright."
"Just don't call me pet names again. You can call me a cool nickname like Jiminie though. And why did you want me to look at you?"
"Oh, that." Taehyung looked at Jimin straight in the eyes with an intense gaze and then looked back at his sketchbook, making some strokes with his pencil. Just then Jimin looked down at the so familiar sketchbook and saw something that didn't surprise him anymore. He just raised an eyebrow.
"Another one?" Jimin asked, looking at the drawing Taehyung was finishing. The paper showed a very concentrated Park Jimin under a tree doing his homework.
"I like to draw you. I've been drawing you for years, so it's pretty easy to do it. I know your face by heart." And Jimin smiled.
"If you know my face by heart, why did you ask me to look at you?"
"Your eyebrows were extremely furrowed and I just couldn't get them right. I needed you to lift your face a little."
"Then, are you done with my services?" Jimin smiled.
"Yeah. Just please don't go back to math. I'm so exhausted just by watching you."
"You should be doing it too, Taetae."
"It's so unfair how you can still call me Taetae and I just can't call you baby, not even sweetheart."
"Don't even start with the sweetheart thing."
"I used to call you that also."
"Yes, when we were six."
"Fine, I'll stick to Jiminie."
"Good boy." Jimin smirked.
"I'm not a dog!"
"You like pet names."
"Nope, now we're going to stick to normal nicknames. Since you hate cute pet names so much."
But Jimin didn't. He loved when Taehyung called him sweet things, but he just couldn't stand another glaring from old people on the street when they were just friendly hanging out. And he didn't like the insults of his classmates. He never talked about those insults with Taehyung because he knew Taehyung would get into a fight and he could easily win over his other fifteen years old classmates. Taehyung was strong for his age and Jimin didn't want him to get in more trouble for him.
"Just let me finish my homework."
"Oh, God! You're so obsessed with math. Can you stop?" Taehyung pretended to be angry at his smarty pants friend. "I prefer five years old Jimin, counting until the last number he memorized."
"I still can do it." Jimin laughed and started. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven..."
"Stop, please. You know like a million more numbers than when you were five!"
"Unlike you, who can count to eleven, I guess-"
"Brat!" Taehyung slapped Jimin's thigh and Jimin just smiled.
"Whatever. Let me finish my math homework so I can pass it to you and you won't fail the subject."
"I looooove youuu." Taehyung tried to hover Jimin and the latter just laughed and tried to stop him, oblivious of Jimin's mother watching them through the window with a worried expression. The same expression that both boys' parents had whenever they watched them being so, so close. They started worrying when their kids turned twelve and kept being so affectionate if not more than before.
"Dinner's ready!" She screamed and both boys stopped their games and laughs.
"Tae can stay?" Jimin asked, already knowing the answer.
"Of course." She said with a worried smile that none of them noticed.
I'm liking this chapter a lot. I've always wanted to make a Vmin story, but I got suddenly inspired because of today's concert in Brazil. Did you see Vmin holding hands while sliding in that inflatable slide? Ugh💜
