A step forward
"Man! Your house's great!" Siddharth whispered in Anjali's ear, unnoticed by all. She glared at him. Before she replied anything, a serious looking post middle aged man, clad in white Kurta and Dhothi approached them. "Appa..." Anjali explained to a perplexed Siddharth.
The man put on a gentle smile on his face, calming everyone down. He spoke very less but his eyes had much to emote. "Satya, my name. Happy to meet you." He said, and left, caring least about the other's introduction.
"God! He is so serious...Sweety...will our plan work!?" Siddharth now had lost had half his confidence in winning his lady love. She glared at him, again and left, leaving him with the company of Adi and Sharat.
******
"What!!! NEVER!!!" Yelled Sid, hitting a pillow at Adi. "I can't even look into that man's eyes! He's so creepy! And you idiots want me to disclose that I'm in love with his own daughter!"
Adi just smirked, and Sharat followed the same. "You talk to him once and you'll know why we asked you to do that!" Adi said, still chuckling. Sid simply looked, his brain blank.
*******
The men sat in the big, empty hall. Sid literally felt a drop of sweat gliding its way down his chin. Adi and Sharat sat opposite to him and Satya sat in the middle, looking intensely at Sid, making him sweat more.
"U...Uncle... I....I..." Sid began with a trembling voice.
"I don't like boys who stammer!" Said Satya, a bit too harsh.
"IloveAnjali!" Sid exclaimed and the speed of his words was such that not even a letter was heard properly.
"What?"
"I...love Anjali" Sid finally had dug deep into his heart and found a grain of confidence.
The immediate response made him gulp. Satya was elated! His eyes sparkled as soon as he heard that.
"You are telling the truth isn't it!!!" He shrieked in Sid's ear, shaking him by his shoulders. Sid looked at his two friends, who were holding their mouths tight, their bodies vibrating with laughter.
He looked back at the over excited Satya. "What are you doing Uncle..?" He asked, pulling himself out from the hug. "You are her father and I thought you would be angry on hearing something like this!"
At this comment of his, Satya relaxed as he sat back on his couch. "Look my boy, I'm not like those filmy fathers who become the villains of their children's love story. I always wanted someone who would love my daughter for who she is and these two idiots had already informed me of your budding tale. I may look serious from appearance but I'm no less than my crazy daughter."
Sid had a his mouth opened wide for he never expected such an amazing twist in his love tale.
"You'll have all the help from my side to brake this meaningless marriage. And we should always keep in mind that Shakunthala should not be hurt in any ways. "
Hearing this assurance, Sid smiled his best, and the men shared a group hug.
The girls had a good time with Shakunthala. All of them giggled and teased Anjali now and then.
There days passed and Sid never missed a chance to pay his regular confidential visits to his Love. And of course, whenever there was Siddharth's name taken, the gang of six would smile naughty.
One more ordinary day approached and so did her wedding with Siddharth Raichand, her so called fiancé. Having decided to clear the matter with the doctor, Anjali offered to go with her mother for the regular check-up.
*********
"Hi Siddharth!" She called out to the busy doctor.
"You must be... Anjali.." He gave her a light hand shake.
"If you don't mind, I would like to have a word with you, in person.." She whispered.
He managed the situation and gave Anjali the privacy from her mother.
"I know the wedding was planned in a hurry. I too agreed, owing to my mother's sensitive condition....but I am not... I mean I can't marry you." She disclosed with her eyes closed.
He had a drastic change in expression.
"Why? Is there some fault you find in me?!" He questioned, rather feeling insecure about something.
"No! It's...It's just that I am in love with someone else..." She confessed politely.
"You could have opposed when my name was proposed!" He seemed to be really annoyed.
"I had to but my mother was not in a position to accept my decision. You, being a cardiologist must understand this!"
His reaction was indeed appreciable when he just nodded with a smile. " I can understand. Being a woman, you have the right to take decisions about your life. I won't force you." He gave an affirmation.
**********
"Everything has took place well!" Anjali exclaimed overwhelmed. "Now we just need to find a way to convince Amma somehow."
"What! Then what about my master plan??! I planned it with so much difficulty!" Adi made a sad puppy face.
"The plan was to be executed only if that NRI refused my decision Adi, remember?" Anjali mocked.
The door clicked open and in came Sid, rubbing his slightly swollen tummy. "Must say Sweet, your dad's a tremendous cook!"
"Ohh...now that you love birds are together, I must take your leave!" Adi chuckled and announced, faking a voice.
"Heard that all is well..." Sid inched too close to her in an instant.
"Hmm.." She managed to whisper ignoring his breath on her face.
Before he leaned on her face, she pushed her way to the window.
"Hello! I haven't received my daily gift!" He held her by her waist, her back facing him.
"First let the matter settle completely." She said, ruining his mood.
"At least a little one..." He frowned.
She giggled as she pulled him closer and brushed her lips on the edge of his. "Happy now?" She raised her right brow.
He nodded negative and pulled her closer, making her bang onto him. She let out a moan that alerted him.
Looking at the cut on her wrist where he had accidently gripped, he made her sit on the bed and took out the first aid kit.
"What made this queen hide things from her beloved?" He asked, pouring some Dettol on the cotton.
"Just a little cut" she said, looking at her open wound.
Satya passed by, just to hear a loud moan of his beloved daughter.
"Aaaahhhh"
"I'm so sorry... Did it hurt? " came Siddharth's voice.
Satya now doubted on what was happening inside. He gave his ears to the door to hear more.
"Stop it Sid! You are seriously hurting me now!"
"Just hold on for a minute darling, it'll be all fine..."
These were followed by a few more of her moans and Satya was sweating profusely with worry.
He knocked the door, welcoming all his courage. "Come in!" Came his voice from inside.
He found the most relaxing sight inside. Anjali shut her eyes tight and Siddharth was gently applying some ointment on her cut, and what all had his imagination led him to! Satya sighted deeply, calming down. "Thank god!" He whispered, a bit too audible.
"Is everything ok appa?" Anjali asked, dabbing the cotton on her cut. He nodded affirmative and left the room without saying a word.
He was taken by surprise when his wife stood in front, crossing her arms in front of her chest. He smiled, nervously and before she could enter Anjali's room, he walked her back, speaking crap that made no sense.
"Whom was she with?" Shakunthala questioned.
"Siddharth (the doctor)..." He said, confidently.
"Siddharth's here?" She fidgeted her saree and fixed it around her shoulders, ready to make a move to greet her would be Son in law.
"Noo!" He yelled, stopping her. They were speaking in the phone... The generation these days you know..." He managed.
