8.) Weekend Antics

"Dylan," I call out, whipping my head into his room as I hang onto the doorframe.

"What?"

"We need to get some lead to line my masks. I don't want to take any chances of having my identity found out because they have x-ray vision."

"So? What do you want me to do about that?"

"You're the one with the super strength."

"You got your own super strength," he retorts. "I'm sure you can find and bend your own."

"Ugh!" I huff. "Well, I'm heading out to the base if you wanna come."

Today is Saturday, finally. I made my debut a few days ago and haven't gone out since then. I have a feeling when I do go out, someone is going to take interest in me. Be it my soulmate, Ironman, or SHIELD, or someone else like a villain or something, is making me a bit nervous.

He looks up at me for a second. "Yeah, sure, give me a second."

I nod, heading back to my room to get into my hero leggings and covering them with sweats and throwing on a hoodie. The rest of the outfit I stuff in my bag. I give Luxray a few pets. He uncurls from his spot and stretches, looking at me curiously.

"You be a good boy," I tell him, giving his head a kiss. "I'll be back later."

"Raor?" He blinks at me in reply before snuggling back down on the bed.

"Ah! You're so cute!" I coo, burying face in his fur, giving him kisses and squeezes. "I love you!"

"Meroowww!" he protests, wiggling around and making me grin in amusement.

"Mels, I'm ready. We going?"

I leave Luxray be, turning to Dylan. "Yeah," I reply, flinging my bag over my shoulder. "Let's go."

We head out and get to the hideout on foot.

Over the past couple weeks, we have continued to add needed things to the base. Things such as computers, weapons, training equipment, tech, etc. We've done a lot of dumpster diving too which is more fun than it should be.

"I'm going to go find some lead for you to squish down for me."

"We're going to have to make a foundry to melt it down first."

"MMm, very true," I think then groan. "Sounds like a lot of work."

He rolls his eyes. "I'll make it." He looks up how to make one on his phone. "Looks like I'm going shopping. I'll just go ahead and buy some lead nails or something we can melt too. You can go out and patrol while I make one. Should take me a few hours."

"I don't wanna patrol unless I got the masks lead lined," I complain.

"Just go," he huffs, shoving me to go change. "Go and see your soulmate too."

"That's only if I can find him."

"I'm sure you will. You're soulmates, you're naturally drawn together."

I grab my bag and change into the hoodie, slipping on the masks and pulling the hoodie over my head. I strip off the sweats hiding my leggings. "I guess we'll see." I take a sticky note pad, writing down a list. "Get these things as well. It's all I need that's left, so we can get communication between us in the mask."

He looks over the list. "Alright."

I salute two fingers as a bye and leave the hideout into the city. I fly up above the buildings, looking around for any trouble.

"Hey! Watch out!"

I dodge to the left, hearing something coming towards me fast. That something zooms by with a web attached to the back of said thing and attached to the end of the web is Spiderman. The two fly by me in a quick second.

"What in the world?" I question, dodging out of the way again. "Who?"

"His name is the Beetle!" Spiderman shouts out as I follow them. "He's—ugh—a mercenary for hire!"

"Alright," I respond, dodging a punch from Beetle. I grab Spidey and pull Beetle back with the web from flying away again.

Beetle's suit strains a bit before he turns and blasts the web off of him.

The two of us fall back a bit before I steady us.

"Thanks," Spidey says.

"Who was his target?" I ask, flying after Beetle while carrying Spiderman.

"Some reporter, Urich, or something," he responds.

"I have an idea," I say, adjusting the boy in my arms.

"Wha-What are you doing?!"

"Just trust me," I respond before throwing him straight at Beetle's back. "Yeet."

Spiderman releases a scream before adjusting and tackling Beetle in the air.

"Did you just yeet me?!" Spiderman huffs, folding up Beetle's wings with webs. He wraps him up like a real spider to his prey. They begin to plummet to the street before he shoots out a web and swings up.

I fly after him, grabbing Beetle's helmet and crushing it. He cries out in pain a bit as I pull it off of him. "Nighty night," I scream out the pitch to make him fall asleep.

Spidey hangs him by a pole with a note for the cops. He signs his hero signature at the bottom.

He holds the pen out to me. "Sign it."

"Huh? I... I didn't really do anything."

He shrugs. "You helped. Sign."

I sigh. "Yeah, okay." I take the pen and sign Lyric beside his.

He blinks. "Whoa. You made it so pretty! Now mine looks lame next to yours."

I shrug, smirking. "You should work on it then, Bug boy."

"Spiders aren't bugs."

"Yeah, yeah, they're arachnids like scorpions and ticks."

He owlishly blinks at her. "Y-Yeah... that's right..."

"I know."

He snaps out of his awed daze and awkwardly rubs the back of his neck. "So, uh, wanna like... talk... or something?"

I look at him a bit suspiciously. "About what specifically?

"Uh, like get to... know each other a bit?"

"Why?"

"Well, I figured cause we seem to encounter each other a lot and work well together... Maybe we can be hero partners or something? Like the Avengers, but like, just the two of us."

"There's... no other reason for why you want to talk?"

"Uh, no? I mean, uh... should there be?"

I huff, crossing my arms. I guess he really hasn't realized I'm his soulmate... Unless he thinks Melody is his soulmate. Maybe I should ask? Would that be weird? "Yeah, sure, whatever." I take off to the top of a nearby building.

Spiderman swings up and lands beside her. The lens on his mask seems to shine. She seems to realize that he's bursting with questions. "Uh..."

She sighs, sitting down on the ledge of the building. "Go ahead. I know you're about to explode if you don't ask whatever you're curious about."

He gives a small squeak of excitement as he sits down beside her. "How old are you? Are we like partners now? Can we be partners? That'd be really cool! What all can your powers do? What pitches do what? How are you able to fly? How are you able to only let you're intended target hear your sonic screams? Are they sonic screams? How'd you get your powers? I was bitten by a radioactive spider."

"Holy crap you talk a lot!" I groan.

He sheepishly laughs. "Ah sorry... I tend to do that when I get overly excited..."

"I'm not telling you how old I am. You can figure that out yourself."

"Well, you used the word yeet, so I assume you're a teenager to at least late 20s."

"We can be partners if you want. I'll make us some communicators like cell phones, so we can contact each other."

"Whoa! You can make phones? That's awesome!"

"Can't you?"

"Uh, I... maybe? I haven't exactly tried. I probably could."

I hum, trying to think what else he asked about. "I'm able to fly by manipulating the sound waves around me. So, if I was in space, I wouldn't be able to fly. Same for how I only make who I want to hear. Uh... I don't know all the octaves of pitches. I'm scared to test some of them... It's possible a certain pitch could kill whoever hears it. Uh, imagine a piano... I've only done the middle octave C to C. I haven't tried any other note just in case."

"I understand. So, what does each note you do now cause?"

"Middle C causes low level anxiety and shortness of breath, D causes high level anxiety and panic attacks, E causes dizziness and vertigo, F causes nausea and stomach cramping, G causes severe headaches and fatigue, A causes blindness, B makes them fall asleep, and high C causes the listener to visually hallucinate. I usually use E, G, B, and middle C. By rapid oscillation between two notes, I can combine effects. Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and durability. Can lift 5 tons. Enhanced senses so much so I can hear and feel vibrations coming towards me."

"Wow, cool!"

"How much can you lift?"

"Uh, I... haven't exactly tested it... I uh... lifted an entire warehouse off of my back when it collapsed on me..."

My eyes widen. "Spiderman! That's ridiculous! How did you end up doing that?"

"When I was taking on my first big villain," he admits shyly.

"Wow... cool..."

"So, uh... How'd you... get your powers?"

I tighten my fists, knowing how everyone feels about mutants. He... well? Doesn't the public think he's a mutant anyway? "How... do you feel about... mutants?"

"Well, Scarlet Witch is a mutant and so was her brother. I like her, she's cool. Are... you a mutant?"

I turn my head away from him. "Yeah."

"Oh. Well, that's cool! I've never actually met a mutant before! I think they're really fascinating! I think it'd be pretty cool to be born with superpowers! Anyway, most of the public think I'm a mutant anyway."

"Alright, how about soulmates? You met yours?" I ask.

"Ah, no. I haven't. Have you?"

"I have. Met him a few weeks ago."

"Ah, dating?"

"No, he doesn't know we're soulmates."

"What?! Are you going to tell him?!"

"Nah," I answer. "I'll give him time to figure it out on his own."

"That's kinda mean."

I shrug. "He's kinda stupid too."

"I'm surprised. Aren't soulmates both supposed to click at the same time?"

"Usually. Hey, you said you were bitten by a spider? So, can you talk to spiders? Command them? Can you naturally climb walls or is that just your suit? Same with your webs, suit or organic?"

"Uh, I wish I could talk to and command spiders! That would be so cool! Like, could you imagine?! Nobody would commit crimes anymore! I can naturally climb walls. And my webs, both. I typically use my suit webs because they're stronger and cooler, and I can do more with them. I do have natural webs too, but they're only strong enough to carry myself. Anything heavier or stronger easily tears through it."

"Please don't tell me your natural one comes out your butt. I don't think I could be partners with you then."

"NO! No, they come out my wrists! Same place as my suit's webs."

"That's good," she sighs, chuckling. Maybe this whole soulmate thing isn't so bad after all.

"Ah, would you really not be my partner if I did?"

"Yes."

"Killing my feelings here!" he fake cries. "So, how about we get a meet up spot and time settled?"

"Uh, yeah sure."

~~~
She returns to her hideout.
"So, anything interesting happen?" Dylan asks.
"Met up with my soulmate again."
He chuckles. "Of course you did. Fate is going to keep pushing you two together until you are together. Anyway, I finished what you wanted and got what you needed."
"Great! I'll get started then."
