Not Chara
My eyes snapped open to the familiar black landscape that I'd seen too many times. Black smoke encompassed my hands as I spun in a circle, looking for the intruder.
Cherry please, don't panic.
The voice was familiar in the worst of ways. My face fell on a child that had become the very image of bloodlust. Chara's small body was positioned a few feet away from me. Their stance held no hostility but my guard was still up. In my gut I knew this would happen, but it didn't make this any more enjoyable.
"What the hell are you doing here Chara?" I hissed the words like venom.
Please don't hurt me yet! I want to speak to you, honestly.
I laughed. "And I'm just supposed to trust you?! Do I look like a fucking idiot?" I sneered.
I know you hate me. But please-
They were cut off by a swift kick. If anyone had seen it, they'd panic. I mean, how else do you react to a lady in her early twenties roundhouse kicking some kid in the stomach. Chara crumbled easily and sat on the floor, coughing violently.
They didn't fight back though. In my hot headed rage I punched them again and stood back. "Okay, I'm done." I muttered, turning my back.
Chara coughed violently, red smearing her pale lips.
I deserve way more than that.
I smirked. "Yeah, you do."
There was a lull in the conversation and I stared at the child, waiting for them to do something unforgivable. They didn't. After a bloody coughing fit they merely curled with their legs under their chin. Guilt nibbled the back of my consciousness, turning into confused frustration.
"What's your problem?!" I snapped. "After what you've done, even though you know you can do so much more than this, why aren't you fighting back?! Are you trying to drive me insane?!"
Chara looked at me with tearful eyes and buried their head in their sweater.
I'm sorry.
Chara's voice was muffled, even though it technically came from all around us. Even more frustration poisoned my already boiling blood. I grabbed Chara by the collar and lifted them to my eye level. My eyes bore into the depths of them, trying to find even a glimpse of malicious intent. Nothing.
I dropped Chara and released an annoyed growl. My feet took me away from the child, walking aimlessly into the blackness. Eventually I'd end up back with the brat but right now I needed to escape.
Thoughts raced through my mind, confusion fueling anger and frustration. My face was as red as my hair by the time I found Chara back in my view. They looked at me sheepishly but quickly broke their gaze from mine. Something in my soul tugged at the motion. My heart sank and I sighed.
"I'm leaving." I said curtly, not looking at Chara.
Okay, I won't stop you.
I grunted in response, closing my eyes. And tried to wake my conscious body, but failed miserably. Another vicious growl tour my throat. Chara kept their gaze on the ground. Something was nagging me, something I had to understand before I left. I paced a bit before plopping on to the ground in front of Chara.
"Okay kid, talk." I instructed.
Chara seemed startled by my sudden interest in them.
What do you want to hear?
I looked at them with the 'duh' look and their face reddened.
Oh, I guess it's kinda obvious. Chara laughed nervously. You wanna know why I'm still around.
"Well no shit Sherlock! I thought destroying the things keeping you anchored would completely destroy your spirit and send you to the burning pits of Tartarus."
Chara's expression saddened.
I'm sorry to disappoint you. What you did, did destroy me... Just not all of me.
"Elaborate."
Well, it's true. You did destroy to things keeping Chara anchored, and you destroyed her. But you didn't destroy the person that keeps Chara Dreemur anchored.
I raised a brow. "Are you telling me that I didn't destroy your brother? Because I made sure he burned."
Chara flinched at my cold words.
Asriel, he's gone. He's waiting for us all on the other side. But Asriel wasn't the only person that kept me here.
"Who? Who else did you attach to?" I said shortly, feeling chills down my spine.
Please forgive me-
"Who?!"
Silence...
I'm attached to Frisk's soul.
My face flushed and my fist swung at Chara. "HOW DARE YOU?!" I screamed.
Chara curled away from the blow, withholding a wail. The same wave of guilt hit me and I drew back. "Explain."
Chara nodded and sat up slightly.
I attached to Chara when he fell down here the first time. I'd been down here for years, alone, when Frisk came along. Frisk was so, so happy. He was open-minded and energetic and determined. He never gave up on any monsters. I thought maybe he'd give me a chance...
So the second time he fell, I went to him. But when I tried to talk to him, I reached out and he absorbed my spirit. I was a monster. All the bitter hatred and resentment I had for humanity made me a monster, a real one. So his soul took mine in, and I was in his head. At first we were good friends, Frisk accepted me. But then my evil affected him. It was just a random reset and we both felt... Wrong. Something happened and the badness I had was amplified. It scrambled my sense of right and wrong. I took Frisk's body and.... And...
My face was hot in anger. Chara's voice broke and they started to sob.
I didn't mean to! It was a mistake! The evil scrambled my mind and took us both!
My eyes were steely and unforgiving. My magic had faded to no use but my entire body was rigid. "You couldn't control your own demons..." I muttered.
Dizziness hit my head and I instantly felt mad. "Waking up now?! Seriously?!" I growled. My eyes swept to Chara and my brows furrowed. "Will you be here tomorrow?"
Chara nodded.
I'm a part of your consciousness. I'll be here for a long time.
I shook my head and closed my eyes gently. "Be prepared to talk. I'll sleep another week if I have to."
Chara nodded mutely and my vision scrambled. When my eyes opened again, I saw Sans shaking me gently. "There you are." Sans smirked. "You looked like you're about to blow a gasket."
Deciding it to be better to keep to myself, I pasted a smile on my face. "It was one of those weird puzzle dreams. Like I did something and it undid something else I did, ya know?"
Sans chuckled. "Those are the only kinda dreams Papyrus has."
I faked a laugh. "Yeah, they're stressful as fuck."
I sat up groggily and looked around. It almost slipped my mind I had stayed at the Skelebro's house. I giggled, remembering my first 'visit.'
"What so funny?" Sans asked.
"Remembering my first time here. I literally spent the night in a wet sweater on a dust covered couch with a dish towel as a pillow. Now I get to sleep with you like it's always been that way." Another snicker escaped. "And to think, you used to hate me."
Sans laughed. "I didn't hate you. I was just overly protective of my first house with Papyrus."
I rolled my eyes and rolled out of bed. The electronic alarm clock read the time: 8:34. Speaking with the voices in my head always seemed to take way more time than I thought. Stretching widely, a yawn shook my throat. Sans watched me as I stretched, with a blank expression.
"See something you like?" I teased.
Sans shook his head and refocused on my image. "Oh, sorry! I was just thinking."
I giggled. "About?"
He shrugged. "I'm curious about what flesh feels like."
I raised a brow. "You've never felt Frisk's skin before?" I asked.
"Well, he's held my hand before and he's hugged me but I've never really had a chance to really feel human flesh."
I rolled my eyes. "You're such a nerd. Just ask."
"Would you go around asking monsters to feel their scales or fur or whatever they have?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Just a harmless question."
Sans chuckled and appeared inches from my nose. I jumped and braced my arm behind me. "Hi there, you're close." I said shakily.
"Can I feel your skin?" He asked, a low rumble in his voice.
My face blushed deep red. Deciding for a teasing approach to avenge him scaring me, "Hmmmm, no."
Sans was still a moment, not expecting that answer. A mischievous grin crept across his bony features. "Maybe I didn't asked correctly..."
His arms pinned me to the mattress, my back now against the bed with Sans hovering inches above me. "Can..."
His invisible kiss brushed my forehead. "I..."
His hands crept closer to my sides, cold bones jolting my warm skin that was exposed between my jeans and shirt.
"Feel..."
His bony thumb drew circles on my stomach and my face saturated, now resembling the very fruit of my name.
"Your..."
He lowered his head towards mine and he grinned evilly. His teeth hovered mere centimeter above my lips. I could feel his hot breath on my face.
"Skin?"
It took all my will not to squeal. "It's seems you already are Blue." I purred, bringing my lips against his teeth.
He kissed me back tenderly while his hands climbed my stomach. They brushed my skin tenderly, like if they were too rough I'd break. It was starting to heat up, Sans's hands slipping around my back, when a loud thud pounded against the door.
"SANS! TORIEL WANTS TO KNOW IF CHERRY SLEPT OVER AT OUR HOUSE. SHE WAS NOT IN HER BED WHEN FRISK AWOKE."
Sans sighed and slowly got off me. I pouted immaturely and he suppressed a laugh. "Yeah Paps, I've got her in here with me." Sans said loudly.
The door swung open, me sitting cross-legged on the bed and Sans sitting in his chair. "GOOD MORNING CHERRY! HOW DID YOU SLEEP?"
I hesitated a moment, having to recall my prior excuse. "Had an annoying puzzles dream. You know, the kind where one action undoes another?"
Papyrus nodded vigorously. "I GET THOSE DREAMS! THEY ARE ESPECIALLY FRUSTRATING!"
I grinned and stood up. "Sans, do I still have any clothes in this house or do I have to go home to change?"
"YOU WILL HAVE TO GO BACK HOME I AM AFRAID! SANS AND I WERE UNSURE HOW TO CARE FOR WOMEN'S CLOTHING, AND WHEN I TRIED TO WASH THEM, I CAME ACROSS SOME CLOTHING SANS SAID YOU WOULD NOT APPRECIATE ME MESSING WITH."
I blushed slightly, knowing exactly what Papyrus was talking about. "Well, thanks for trying," I chirped. "Imma head back and change. Toriel's gonna have my ass for an hour for using my magic. Welp, R.I.P. Me. See y'all later!"
I winked and blew a kiss to Sans before teleporting to my room. It was identical to when I had last seen it, not even a speck of dust. Toriel was a master at keeping tidy! I stripped away my clothes and walked to my closet, opening it wide to look for an outfit. My eyes scanned over the shirts and hung up jeans, eventually deciding on a pair of camouflage shorts, a black tank-top and my jacket (now dry and warm).
First I pulled on my pants, strapping a belt around them securely. I changed my bra for a simple black one and was just grabbing my tank-top when I heard a sharp snap outside the door.
"Sans?" I called. "Did you just teleport?"
"Yeah, figured I'd have your back if Tori went all out."
I smirked and slipped on the rest of my clothes. Sans walked in as I was finishing lacing up my combat boots. His eyes scanned my body and I grinned. "You like what you see?" I asked.
He faked a snort of laughter. "I like what I see no matter what you're wearing." He flirted.
I winked at him and stood up. In a hefty tone, I yelled, "Toriel! I'm home!"
"Uh, kid... It's Monday. Tori's at school teaching."
I made an 'oh' face and my hand fluttered to my back pocket, wanting to retrieve my phone. When I AGAIN remembered I no longer had a phone, a quiet curse spillt over my lips. Sans raised a brow.
"You missing your phone?" He asked.
I shrugged. "Yes and no. I don't really need it but it's something I like to have to toy with."
Sans grinned and grabbed my hand. "Come on. Let's go get you a new one."
I laughed. "Sorry but I'm not letting you buy me a phone. That's more than I can repay."
"In time you'll pay me back. Especially if life continues like it was this morning."
The last part put an opaque blush on my cheeks. "I swear I'm literally becoming a cherry..." I muttered.
Sans nudged me playfully and we were suddenly in a new place. Looking over the sea of people, I realized the last time I'd openly been around strangers was when I was pushed into the Underground. I squeaked quietly and hid behind Sans, throwing my hood over my face.
"I forgot about people!" I whispered loudly. "Last time I was out no one knew it was me! I was under a hood!"
Sans chuckled. "Don't worry Cherry. No one's gonna give you trouble."
Sans pulled my hood down and put a skeletal hand around my cheek. He pecked my lips and I giggled.
"If this goes south you owe me dinner, without using a tab!" I teased.
"So not Grillby's?"
"No, not Grillby's."
He took my hand and led me through waves of people. Several people would look at me, stop, do a double take then whisper. Sans didn't seem to notice but I slowly wanted to shrink into my hood.
After a few right turns, Sans brought me to a door. The sign over the shop read: UNDERTECH. Monsters and humans alike milled inside the store, looking at a variety of different technology. We were looking through the selection when I heard a familiar child's voice. I turned with Sans and looked down at my armless buddy, Monster Kid.
"Hey kid!" I greeted. "Long time no see!"
Kid smiled and jumped up and down. "I didn't know you were out of the hospital! We missed you!"
I chuckled. "Whose we?" I asked.
"Your fans! You even have a fan club in my neighborhood instead of a book club."
I grinned. "That's surprising." I admitted. "How've ya been kid?"
"I've been having a few bullying problems lately but Frisk has been helping me out with it. Mom and Dad decided to home school me so that's why I'm here now."
I rubbed his head affectionately. "Well I hope you can get the bullies sorted out. Come tell me if they're giving y'all a bit too much trouble."
Kid nodded. "Can I ask you a question, not including this one that is?"
I smirked. "Smart wording. Sure, ask away."
Kid shifted from foot to foot. "I wanted to know if you and Sans were, uh, canon."
I raised a brow before realizing what he meant. In response, I planted a kiss on Sans teeth and wrapped his arm around my waist. "Yes, we're canon." I smirked.
At those words Kid's face grew with happiness and ran away, running straight into a group of children. I could catch his words but based on the other children's squealing, I'm guessing they were all part of the fan club. Snickering, I turned back to Sans.
"I swear that kid kills me. He's too adorable!" I gushed.
"I don't know, you could probably make a cuter baby." Sans countered.
I winked at him. "In time we'll see." I teased.
