Goodnights

I stuffed my face until my stomach couldn't take it anymore. "This is magical after sitting in the dark for hours, crying." I sighed, patting my stomach.

"Geez, Cherry, do you plan on having a food baby?" Frisk asked.

I stuck my tongue out at him. "Don't judge me. Before this I was running on a hot dog and a water bottle."

"You ate my hotdog?!" Sans gasped.

"Yes, and it was delicious. Even if it was cold." I teased.

There was a sweep of laughter over the table and Toriel stood. "Well, I hope you can eat a little bit more. I looked around in your old things and found something to make for you."

In curiosity I looked over at her. "Was it a craft or something?"

Toriel shook her head and walked to the fridge. She removed a covered pie tin and brought it toward the table, an old paper laying on top. Taking the paper, she handed it to me gently and uncovered the pie.

My eyes skinned over the top of the paper and my eyes widened. "You found this!" I cried in surprise. "I thought I lost this years before I even fell down here."

My heart felt heavy and light at the same time. Memories of my parents flashed in the back of my mind and I grinned. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes as Toriel displayed the pie.

I looked down at the surface of the scratch-made pecan pie. "My mom used to make this for my birthday instead of a cake." I reminisced. "Wow, it's been too long mom..." I added, though too quiet for anyone to hear.

Toriel placed a piece in front of me. As I looked up at her to say thank you, my heart stopped. She was backlit heavily, making only her grin and silhouette seeable. I could see the silhouette of my human mother in the monster in front of me. Even when I could see Toriel clearly, the feeling of my mother's presence lingered.

A finger slid across my cheek and I snapped from my daze. "Wait, what?" I asked bewildered.

Sans snickered. "This pie must be good if you're already crying." Sans teased.

I grinned and wiped my eyes. "Sorry. It's just nice to see my mom. Both of them."

Toriel grinned happily and dished pie to everyone else. The first bite had so much nostalgia I almost had to stop. "God Toriel! Did you resurrect my mom to make this?" I asked.

Toriel giggled. "Thank you for such a compliment dear. I'm glad you like it."

I ate the rest in a few bites, and took my plate to the sink. After rinsing, then I retired to the living room and turned on a movie. Slowly people joined me on the couch, all watching the movie intently.

"What is this movie anyway? This chick is super badass!" Undyne said.

"It's called Underworld. It's my FAVORITE movie. If I was this badass, you'd all die of badass overload."

"Says the girl that died, resurrected, has powers greater than Sans AND forced the universe into creating a soul." Frisk replied sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and curled up against Sans. "Hey, the kid isn't lying." Sans whispered as the movie resumed.

"Shut up ya Blueberry. I'm watching Underworld."

He chuckled and wrapped an arm over my shoulders. The movie came to an end and I sighed. "Do y'all wanna watch the next or..."

My eyes drifted over my friends and I fell silent. A majority of them slept soundly, even Sans. Undyne and Mettaton remained awake, both waiting for me to finish my thought.

"Maybe we should get everyone to bed." I said sheepishly. "Mettaton, Undyne get Alphys back home safely. I'll get Frisk and mom."

"Aren't you on no magic right now darling?" Mettaton asked.

"I'll be fine. I used magic earlier and didn't die."

Undyne shrugged and grabbed Alphys gingerly. Mettaton followed close behind them and closed the door quietly. "Goodnight Darling~"

"Night you three. Get back safe." I chirped quietly.

They closed the door softly and I turned towards Papyrus and Sans. Starting with Papyrus, I lifted them gingerly and placed them on their beds accordingly. I then teleported Toriel to her bedroom, her waking up just enough for me to usher her into bed without her nagging me about my magic. Lastly I teleported back and looked at Frisk.

The child was curled in a blanket on the couch, his head propped on a throw pillow. I hoisted him on to my hip and let his head rest against my shoulder. He groaned lightly but didn't seem to mind. I teleported to his room and tucked him into his bed. "Night Li'l' Nug." I whispered.

As I turned to leave, deciding it'd be best I slept in my own bed, a tug alerted me of the still awake child. "Frisk?"

"Cherry, you still owe me a story." Frisk groaned.

"Isn't it a bit late? Maybe you should just sleep..."

"No, I want a story."

"Frisk-"

"Story or I'll yell for mom."

After a moment I sighed. "Fine, don't go waking anyone up."

He sat up slightly and I took a seat at the end of his bed. "Do you have a specific choice?" I asked.

"No, I wanna hear something original."

Groaning, I took a few minutes to think of something. "Okay, I think I've got one."

I cleared my throat and sat up straight.

"There once was a girl that lived in a house with a family. And though the girl lived normally, she was not a normal child. At school the girls talked about their crushes or favorite celebrities, the girl did not. The girl stayed in her seat, quietly and would read or write... Sometimes draw. Most girls at her school also dressed in dressy clothes or in trendy outfits. The girl didn't do this. She wore baggy clothes that made her feel more comfortable, much like a boy.

The girls made fun of the girl for her clothes and odd behavior. Even the boys made fun of her, despite the way she enjoyed the things the same as they did. This is why the girl felt lonely and sad. Her parents knew about the teasing, but could do nothing. This all led to the girl becoming very very sad."

"This story sucks." Frisk mumbled.

"Patience Freakazoid!" I nagged. "Anyway, the girl was very sad. So slowly and slowly she becomes more isolated. She didn't talk much with her family. Did not have friends to talk to. And only spoke when spoken to.

As time passed, the girl became a young lady. Now with her new life as a young woman, she tried to look at the world more broadly. So when the girl went to college, she tried to make new friends. However, her isolation made it difficult. It didn't take long for her to feel hopeless. She again faded into the background.

As she started to completely give up, she spiraled into a hole. A hole of regret and loneliness. Instead of facing her torment, she let it slide and now paid the price. And though you might think the story is too bleak to end happily, you are wrong.

You may not know, but sometimes it takes hitting the bottom to see what you need to get to the top. When the young woman hit her bottom, people around her noticed. Though she never really spoke, people started to realize what she meant to the environment around her. As she wallowed, people mourned the loss. It was a brave few that saved, for a few saw that to save the light they had once teased with water, was now dying.

Those brave few came through and went to the girl. At first the girl was cold and distant towards the newcomers, not knowing when they'd be genuine or just another trick.

But they did not give up. These select few grew to know about the young lady, even better than she herself could ever say. They grew to love the way she was.

As they accepted her, she returned to her original spirit. They watched her grow into her old spirit, and they saw her for her, not the surface that they'd once thought of her. This brought them closer than anyone she'd ever met. And she was happy, because, though it had been long since she'd known the comfort, she found people that saw her for her. And she finally had her family."

Frisk looked at me and smiled. "I like that one." He yawned.

I giggled and tucked the covers under his chin. "Okay, that's one story down. About 89 left..."

He snickered and snuggled into his blankets. "Night Cherry. Remember to return Sans's jacket and Pap's scarf." He reminded me.

My heart leaped and I mentally face-palmed. "Thanks for reminding me."

I teleported out, reappearing in the Skelebro's living room. I unwrapped the scarf and left it on the corner of Papyrus's bed. It was hard not to giggle as he snored almost louder than Sans. Next I went to Sans' room and slipped the jacket away from my arms. Folding it in half, I draped it over his office chair and turned towards Sans.

I pecked his forehead lightly and smiled down at his sleeping form. I moved the blankets so they covered him more and turned to leave. As the door closed behind me, I heard my name softly. My gaze fell to the living room and my heart leapt from my skin. The glowing form, like a body made from mist, stood swaying. It turned away and walked through the couch, leaving the home.

A mixture of fear and curiosity filled me as I rushed after the creature. I was careful with the door as I left the house and quickly spotted the creature again. It floated gracefully into the forest, their aura illuminating the trees just enough. My feet flew as I chased after the form. Without my jacket or Sans the cold nipped my skin aggressively but I didn't care. This felt important.

About half an hour, I was following the mist-like body. Soon coming upon a small clearing, tucked away from civilization. A majority of the clearing was a frozen pond. The spirit danced gracefully to its center.

"Hello~" I greeted quietly. "I won't hurt you, I promise."

The body came to a stop and turned towards me. I approached it slowly and reached out. "My name is Cherry, may I have yours?" I asked.

There was silence. The ice beneath my feet seemed solid, but my legs still shook. I waited patiently, until another spirit arose. This one seemed bigger and taller than the first, though gender was still unreadable. It joined the first and both looked at me. A rush of wind blew my hair in my face and I was momentarily blinded. Dark overtook my left eye and I knew it had activated.

When I could see again, the two misty bodies had taken more defined forms. It was like looking at ice sculptures that had been frosted. The first one now appeared the be a woman, in her late 30's. She had long hair, crafted from soft snow, that spilled over her shoulders. The second spirit was still bigger and taller, though it now seemed more tame. It was a man with large broad shoulders and a soft wavy locks of hair. The larger one wrapped my arm around the woman's shoulder and pulled her close. They were lovers.

"Hello..." I said again, more sheepishly.

The woman pointed to the ice and I looked down. Below the ice, an invisible hand painted words into the frost.

Hello Cherry

"Who are you? Why did you bring me here?" I asked.

We are not upset you do not know us. But we have met before. I visited earlier if you remember.

I felt confusion in my stomach. "We've met? I'm so sorry... I can't remember."

The man stepped forward and knelt down next to a bank of snow. In his hands, he made a picture. It was crudely made, definitely not an artist this one. But I could see it vaguely.

"A girl... eating something?" I asked.

The man made a motion for me to keep going. The woman took snow from the man and pressed it into a shape. She then handed it to me and I examined it. It didn't melt in my hands incredulously. It just seemed to be a malformed shape. The man tapped where his lips would be. I held it like I was gonna eat it and it hit me.

"This is a nugget?"

They both nodded and the man pointed again to his small drawing. "A girl eating nuggets..." I repeated. "Is that me?"

They both nodded.

They were always your favorite.

I felt confused as I looked at the writing. I felt like I knew who they were but the woman claimed to have visited me earlier. But I hadn't seen anyone other than my monster friends, and I guess m-

I looked at the two quickly and gasped. "Are you my parents? O-Or at least versions of them..."

The woman nodded and opened her arms to me. I wrapped my arms around the woman, hugging ice was not nearly as comfortable as hugging the real thing... but acceptable. The man wrapped his arms around both of us and squeezed lightly.

"But you're both dead... You've been dead for so long..." I choked.

Mom pet my hair gently and laid her forehead against mine. A wave of chill went over me and I passed out.
