Catch-ups

Gaster looked between us with both curiosity and enjoyment.

"Well this works perfectly. Cherry, I wanted to know if you would take Jace out into the world for the next few days to reacquaint them." Gaster asked.

I chortled and raised a brow. "How long have you had him cooped up?" I asked.

"Two months." Jace interrupted.

My jaw dropped and I sent Gaster a dangerous look. "You've had him locked up for two months and you still didn't tell me?!"

Gaster shrugged. "It never came up."

I rolled my eyes and brushed my hair back from my eyes. I turned and grabbed Jace's sleeve, smiling. "Come on freak. I'm taking you to the best places I know."

I left briskly through the door. Immediately meeting the exit to the void, I shouted a goodbye to Gaster and swung the door open. Jace fell through first, making me laugh. "You're such a klutz, as usual. God, Sans is gonna love you." I chirped.

Jace stood and dusted himself off, sending me a look of annoyance. "Are you talking about the doc's son?" He asked. "How do you know him?"

I laughed quietly and rubbed a hand against the back of my neck. "Yeah, you could say I know him pretty well."

I had decided not to tell him right away that I was in a serious relationship. Last time he'd seen me I had been a nearly emotionless husk. It might be a bit of a shock seeing me suddenly lovey-dovey with the monsters I used to be accused of being.

He followed me, struggling slightly to keep up as I pulled him. Naturally, I made a beeline for my second home, Snowdin. Not knowing if Jace was stable enough for teleportation, I aimed for the scenic route.

He groaned loudly as I led us head on into snowfall. "Wasn't there another way to get wherever we're going. A less snowy way?"

I shook my head smiling, laughing to myself. Soon we were at the doorstep to the Skelebros' home and I was brimming with excitement. Excitedly I pulled my keys from my pocket and twisted them in the lock. Swinging the door open, I saw Sans with his back to the door, watching one of Mettaton's programs.

"I'm home!" I called, pushing Jace into the house with a giggle. "And I brought someone with me."

This peaked Sans' interest. His eye was glowing, but his expression was at piece. Next to the television, the remote was floating in a blue haze. I rolled my eyes but Jace stiffened and threw an arm over me.

"He activated his magic! Stay behind me." Jace ordered.

"Jace no-"

I stopped mid-sentence as a purple magic rippled over Jace. The blue in his hair was pushed to the tips and concentrated into a deep, cobalt color. The roots of his hair blossomed with the original blood red hair that only I and a few others had seen. His fist morphed, becoming malformed and skeletal. The bone bent in an almost sickening way until it fell into a familiar shape of a Gaster Blaster. Fucking Gaster Blaster fists. His magic eye blazed as he stood in front of me protectively.

"Wow Jace! Calm your man tits, Sans was just lifting the remote." I explained, stepping around his arm and pointing to the floating device. "The asshole's too lazy to stand up and get it himself."

Jace's face fell and and his face reddened. "Oh... Uh, right."

His magic started to release and I threw up my hands. "No! Don't revert yet! I wanna look at you."

Jace groaned. "You're not my mother." He complained.

"But I am your sister! Give me your hands."

He groaned. Complying sluggishly, he offered his transformed fist to me. As I 'OOed' and 'AWed' over his transformation, Sans sat, confused as hell.

"Uh, Cherry? Who is that?" He asked, tugging on the back of my shirt slightly.

I looked between the two then laughed. "I almost forgot about that part. Sans, this is my brother, Jace. Jace, this Gaster's eldest son, Sans."

Sans wrapped his arms around my waist and peered at Jace. "Also her boyfriend."

My face reddened as I mentally face palmed. Jace's jaw dropped as he stared at me. "YOU GOT A BOYFRIEND?!" He yelled.

I covered my face and screamed internally. "I was hoping to tell you after you knew about my developments."

"Wait," Sans interrupted. "Since when did you have a brother?"

I unwrapped his arms from around my waist and threw an arm around Jace's shoulders, despite him being so much taller.

"Not a biological brother, but the closest thing I got to it." I paused and jumped up, catching my arm around his neck and pulling his head down as I fell. His head tucked under my arm, I noogied him. "We sorta grew up together."

"You haven't mentioned him before." Sans said monotonely.

Jace elbowed my side and faked a hurt look. "How could you Sheryl?" He feigned.

I released him and snorted. "We both know no one calls me that anymore little brother."

Jace's face twisted in annoyance. "Don't call me that!" He whined.

"Then use my name. Sheryl died before my parents did. My name is Cherry, eat it sucker."

Sans chuckled. "Is it normal for the older siblings to be shorter?" He asked.

I sent him a glare and he laughed. "Oh come on Cherry, I know you have a short temper but that was good."

Jace snorted with laughter as you roared. "Okay, that was good." Jace sighed, offering a hand to Sans. "I'm Jace."

"Sans." Sans greeted likewise, taking Jace's hands and shaking it. "So how'd you guys find each other?"

I fell silent and laughed guiltily. "Well ya see Sans... I was visiting Gaster and-"

"What?!" He snapped.

Jace jumped back a bit as he groaned. "You're not supposed to go with him unless you're with someone."

"I was with Jace!"

"That was after you got there!"

I pouted and crossed my arms. "I'm not a child. I can handle Gaster on my own. I know you have daddy issues but he's not as unstable as he was. He's actually sane and applies ethics before most of his experiments!"

Jace looked between us, confused. "Doctor G isn't stable?" He asked.

"Wasn't stable!" I corrected. "After he reduced to the void he had a... lapse. But he's fine now! He even helped me when Chara had possessed me!"

Sans rolled his eyes. "He also risked your life with the injection. You could've died if your body hadn't accepted the Determination."

"Wait, you got possessed?!" Jace exclaimed.

We both looked at Jace. A laugh broke from my lips and I covered it quickly. "I keep forgetting that you weren't there."

I motioned to the couch and dove on to it, taking up most of it. "Pick a seat. We'll explain it to you."

Both Sans and Jace approached the couch, lifting me to make room. My back sat against Sans back and I sat between his legs. Jace sat at the other end, acting as my foot rest. "Okay, let's start with when I fell. Sans! Find my first interview."

Jace was in awe as he looked at you. "Wow, the doc never explained that part of it." He said quietly.

I shrugged. "You're missing traits too, or trait. Since only two soulless beings have been recorded in history we can't really tell. The fact that we already know each other is one in a million. The fact we're both gingers is one in infinity!"

"Okay, so which traits am I missing?" He asked.

I raised a brow and cocked my head to the side. "You don't know?"

He nodded. Thinking back, I pulled all of our memories together. Immediately I identified one emotion he was missing, but I combed through and found the second.

"If I'm remembering right, I'm guessing you're missing two emotions, like me. One, the more obvious, being sorrow. You lack the ability to mourn loss."

"How can you tell?" He asked.

"When we were kids you never stopped to think about how shitty we ended up. You never talked about how we could've changed it like I did ALL THE TIME. You didn't even feel upset when we found a baby bird that had died when pushed out of its nest."

Jace frowned and had a look of concentration go over his face. "Hmm... that appears to be sad...?"

I nervously chuckled. "Based on your reaction I'm guessing that's not the emotion your experimentation retrieved."

"What were yours?" He asked.

"Fear and Love." I said frankly.

He faked a spit take and looked at me. "So you're saying this is the first time you're actually viewing me with love?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yep! Up top I stuck with you as a matter of resourcefulness and a way to keep from being alone. I couldn't love but I still enjoyed the company of a friendly face."

"And I'm guessing the lack of fear is why you didn't hesitate to stick up for yourself, then take the beating when I was there:"

I smiled obnoxiously. "Yep!"

Jace rolled his eyes and returned quickly to the subject. "So what was the other trait?" He asked.

"I think it was admiration or jealousy." I pondered.

He raised a brow. "What?"

"You were never wow'ed by anything. You've seen famous works of art and shrugged them off like nothing. In a way, I guess it's a lack of love. You seemed to care enough about me, so I can't actually say it was a lack of love but some form of it, yes."

He nodded and smiled. "Yeah... looking back on it, I've realised that I've always envied you for being able to stand in the face of danger with a sliver of fear. Okay, now, one last question."

"Shoot!" I smiled.

"Can you summon your dog things from the second interview?" He asked with a pleading tone.

I rolled my eyes and the magic ignited. Sans jumped as Geeby bounded to life next to me, followed closely by Jinkies. Jinkies curled up leisurely as Geeby bounded towards Jace. I cackled as he was assaulted by Geeby's fluorescent tongue. Red, flowing slobber was left streaking on his face. He laughed, storming Geeby's head with a hand.

"Aw! He's like my fist!"

One of his fists morphed and floated a bit away from his wrist. It seemed to detach and floated a few meters away from him, teasing Jinkies. Jinkies looked at it dully and went back to sleep. Sans chuckled, petting the skelemutt. "Good dog."

The small Gaster Blaster floated in front of me and I held back a squeal. I hugged it tightly, squeezed it almost to death. Jace winced and you released the blaster.

"Relax Cherry! That's still my hand, I'm just morphing my flesh to allow Gaster Blasters to inhabit it."

My face dropped and I looked at him slowly. "Jace, don't say that." I said quietly.

"Why?" He asked.

My face broke into a grin and I patted his head. "Because it's too smart for you!"

He groaned. The tiny Blaster disappeared and as it did, Jace's hand reappeared. He flexed it and showed it off like a prize. "See? Easy!"

"So you punch stuff and it's like a bone attack?" I asked.

He nodded. "I can also do the laser-blaster thingy if I do the Gaster Blaster fist."

"Lucky!" You whined. "I share all the abilities that Sans has. Gaster Blasters, red attacks. The whole shabang. By the way, what did you name your Blasters?"

Jace cocked an eyebrow. "You named yours?"

"Just the main ones. Geeby and Jinkies."

Jace glanced at Sans. "And you name yours too?"

He shook his head and I threw up my hand happily. "I did!"

Sans sighed and rolled his 'eyes.'

"She named my biggest, deadliest Blaster 'Heeby.'"

"HEEBY GEEBY!" I cheered. Jace chuckled at this.
