Bureaucats Part 3: The Cat, The Demon and The Castle
Jellie, for one, did not appreciate her situation. She was an ancient entity from before the dawn of human history, and she had never done anything that caused her to deserve being carried away from her chosen human by the scruff of her neck. Unfortunately, because she was also a cat, she was limited to expressing this in angry meows, yowls, and other such noises. And it is a well-known fact that demons don't speak cat.
Eventually, Jellie gave up trying to get Kelgi to drop her and began memorising the way that she'd been taken instead, noting twists and turns and wall decorations and the like. She was brought up a flight of stairs, then it was left, right, forward, right, right- and a door. A rather large, ornate door at that. It opened into a large hall, where the other three demons were mucking about.
"You have to admit that the axe thing is kinda funny, Az." The green one, Garaa, pointed out.
"It isn't." The other two, Tango and Azin, snapped back in unison.
"Oh hey Kel." Azin added.
"Wait wait wait." Tango interrupted. "There's something wrong with this picture."
"She has a grey hair." Garaa guessed. "No, that's not it."
"Cat." Azin realised. "Kelgi plus cat. That's not right. Explain."
"Simple." Kelgi replied. "I'm leaving her with you before my murderous instincts get the better of me." Jellie hissed at the threat, and Kelgi plonked her on a chair next to Garaa. Kelgi then walked out of the room, slamming the door behind her. The door slowly creaked open, because it was that kind of horrible door that only closes if you hold your tongue right.
"Well then." Azin remarked. "We have a cat now."
"But what to do with a cat?" Garaa asked, reaching over to pat Jellie on the head. Jellie purred, liking the pats- no. She had to focus on her mission. Get out, get Cub, or another human, get Scar out. She wished the guy would stop getting himself into such predicaments, and wondered if all humans were so high-maintenance.
"In my experience," Tango replied, reaching over the table and picking Jellie up, "Cats hold great knowledge. So Jellie, pray tell, is stealing Azin's axe, the only weapon that can kill him, and then giving it back as a birthday gift funny?"
Jellie meowed.
"See?" Azin said, sagely, "The cat's on our side."
"The cat is on nobody's side." Garaa retorted, "Because we don't speak meow."
With that, Jellie decided that she'd had enough of this game, and would rather go now. She put on an act of being suddenly agitated by something, and scratched Tango's arm. He yelled, and dropped her, and she scampered off through the open door. She ran as fast as she could, hearing the three demons running after her, until she reached the balcony an entrance hall. The door was open, so she could easily get out. She didn't pause to wonder why.
She dashed down to the hall itself, and kept on running, until she collided with something: a humanoid leg. She backed up, nervously, until she saw the lab coat that fell down to just above her head level. A familiar face looked down at her, and smiled.
"Hey, Jellie. Cavalry's here." Cub grinned. He pulled out his bow, and lowered it at Tango, who'd managed to keep up with Jellie. "Now where's Scar?"
See? I'd never hurt Jellie! Stop trying to kill me!
I've been Entropy, peace out from the present!
