Chapter 18

Ari's POV

"I think we should start with my name, its Jasper. I'm a friend, which I know might be hard for you to understand right now but that's what I am."

We were seated on the couch where Xavier and I had been not so long ago but I couldn't allow myself to think of that now. I knew I had hurt him but now it was time for answers as I couldn't carry on pretending and accepting apartments and gifts left in mysterious boxes.

Jasper continued "I was sent to find you and once I found you I was supposed to observe and keep you safe- from a distance. There is so much you need to know, but he told me that telling you would be a mistake that you'd told him, long ago that if this ever happened that you had to find your way and you alone."

I tried to process what he was saying, he kept saying 'he' and I somehow knew that Jasper was referring to the face that had flashed into my mind during my moment with Xav.

"I'm getting real tired, real fast Jasper of all this cryptic bullshit. So I need you to tell me whats going on. You clearly know who I am and you clearly know that theirs something insane happening  and I need you to tell me, now." I spoke with conviction, I felt so strong all of a sudden, as though I had the power. The way he'd looked at me in fear when I'd erupted at him outside had indicated to me that I did have something over him. That it was I who was in control here and not him. That I had nothing to fear.

'When did you see him? Something must have happened, I saw the lightening too, he must be furious" He was still speaking in riddles but he was certainly getting a little more loose lipped than earlier.

I realised I wasn't going to get much out of him until I revealed something of my own so I decided to tell him what had happened.

I told him of how I was kissing someone, my cheeks were filled with blush and I left out the part about my screaming and demanding he leave.

"That's why you saw him, he was trying to remind you. That certainly explains the lightening, he's pissed, he must have felt what was happening and couldn't keep it together. I think you're going to get those answers sooner than you think. He's not going to manage to stay away for long if you keep kissing him and he needs to stay away until you deal with it."

"Him, has a name, its Xavier and hes the one who saved me so I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't say it like that." Something had riled me about the way Jasper had said it, there was venom in my tone. Considering the way I had kicked Xavier out I wondered if I had the right to get defensive about anything to do with him at this point but I felt that I should.

"Ha! Xavier. You really don't remember anything do you? You need to stop him now. Before he destroys us all. He's nearly of age and this Xavier ain't gonna be able to hold it back much longer. You need to do what you came to do. You're the only one that can."

Jasper didn't give me the chance to respond, he jumped up, walked to the door and quickly left.

I didn't speak or try to stop him because it was clear that no one I spoke to was going to tell me what was going on. There had been one constant between each interaction I'd had, the note, Ami and now Jasper. They had all said I had to do it alone.

It was time.

The note had told me to open the locket when it was time.

I walked to the spot where the locket still lay on the floor and tentatively picked it up. Thankfully it didn't burn this time but it didn't feel the same as it had before. I didn't feel comforted as I had when I'd first laid eyes on it, I felt disgusted, trapped and then the burning started again.

But this time I couldn't drop or throw it. It burned into the palm of my hand, clinging to my skin. A short scream escaped my lips until I fell to the floor and the world went black once again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Destroy it darling, please, you have to destroy it."

A velvet voice filled my mind.

"Please, its keeping me from reaching you."

A flash of the night sky, of a thousand stars littered the dark expanse that filled my vision.

"Please angel, your soul, its trapped, you have to free it or it will cease to be."

The stars began to fall like raindrops, each one settling onto my exposed skin leaving a pleasant tingling sensation behind.

"You have to choose to take it all back or it will burn you up. You're ready I can feel it but it has to be you."

The voice was so distant now and only one star was twinkling above, illuminating the darkness.

"My love, come back to me before its too late, I can't keep the balance any longer, please."

The last star fell right onto my heart, I could still feel it sinking into my chest as I slowly opened my eyes.
