Chapter 3
Thank you to everyone who is reading! You just made my day :D.
All Marinette could think of was the words Adrien had said to her. It bounced around inside her head, banning her from watching the movie. She sat there sadly for the the rest of the movie, and didn't move until the credits rolled. She bolted up from her seat and ran out of the theater.
Tears streamed down her face as she sprinted out of the cinema. She called Alya, again and again, but her best friend and only comfort did not pick up.
Marinette sniffled as she walked home, her usual skip was gone to her steps.
When she reached home, her parents were out, and a small note was on her table:
'We'll see you at 8:00. Gone off for a meeting. See you later sweetheart. We left some food in the fridge. Love, maman y papa.'
Marinette sighed as she slumped onto her bed. Her red kwami flew out from her purse.
"Don't be discouraged, Marinette. By the way the words are sorted and arranged, I don't think Adrien would have sent that message." Tikki said softly.
Marinette sobbed into her pillow, "But Tikki, no matter how much I think, I just know that everything that he said is true. I'm a loser, and I'm nothing compared to him."
Tikki sighed, and said, "Marinette, you are the sweetest, kindest person I know. I have a reason I chose you for Ladybug, you know?"
"Thanks, Tikki. I don't know what I'll do without you." Marinette sniffed.
"Get some sleep Marinette. It's the masquerade ball tomorrow. You can't let him ruin it for you."
"I hope Alya likes the dress I made for her...." Marinette said as she drifted off.
Tikki stared at Marinette, and sighed.
"Of Course she likes it, she practically fainted when she saw it. Remember? Oh Marinette. You care for others too much."

When Adrien reached the cinema, it was 6:10. It was a long drive from the photo shoot to the cinema, so he knew Marinette would be there no longer. He kept sending her text messages and attempted to call her, but she never replied or picked up.
Adrien was panicking. What if she had seen Chloe's comment? What if she thought that he had actually written it?
He knew where Marinette lived, but like the gentleman he was, he thought it was rude to go barging into her house.
People pointed and took pictures as he ran into the cinema, but he could never care less. He ran up to the ticket man, and said in a rush,
"Have you seen a girl, with pigtails, and a pink purse, and big blue eyes, and-"
"In fact, I have. She looked very sad, and she had two tickets. But only she went inside. Why do you ask?" The ticket man said.
"Oh no. Oh no, no no no. She saw the text message. Did she leave?"
"She left a while ago."
"Thank you."
Adrien ran out of the cinema and into his car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"No! I'm not a loser!" Marinette gasped as she sat up.
Her hands were clammy and her forehead was wet from sweat. The words, 'Loser' and 'Nothing' kept ringing inside her head, as she blocked her ears and rocked backwards and forwards.
"It's not true, I'm not nothing." Marinette quietly sobbed.
A little black butterfly slowly ascended from nowhere, and squeezed through her window sill.
"I'm Marinette. I'm a somebody. I am not loser." Marinette was too distracted to find it coming closer.
She opened her blue eyes to find a black butterfly, landing on her heart.
"No! I don't want to be akumat-"
Her innocent face turned into a smirk as a dark voice boomed inside her head.
"Soul Stealer, I am Hawkmoth. I will give you the power to get revenge on Adrien at the masquerade ball tomorrow, as long as you promise me one tiny little thing. All you have to do, is get Chat noir and Ladybug's miraculous. Can you do that?"
Marinette grinned, eyes glinting in the moonlight.
"Of course."
The black cloud consumed her.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adrien was uncomfortably sitting on his seat, glancing at the door. Marinette had still not come in, even when Alya arrived. Alya looked pale and overworked. She gave Adrien a look of disgust as she settled in her seat.
"Hey dude, why did Alya just look at you like that? She's super scary if you get on the wrong side of her." Nino shuddered.
"It's just that I promised Marinette to see a movie with her, when Chloe stole my phone and sent her a weird comment. I think she thinks I sent it to her." Adrien whispered.
"What?" Alya shrieked.
"Eavesdropper." Nino sighed.
Alya stood up and marched over to Chloe.
"Let me ask you something Chloe. Did you send Marinette something yesterday?" Alya asked, looking down at her classmate.
"Erm, no. I would never waste my time on somebody as useless as her." Chloe retorted.
Alya was raging, and the other classmates that were watching the conversation almost could see steam pouring out of her ears.
"Listen you snob." She poked a finger into Chloe's face. "Stay clear of Marinette, or I swear to god, I will punch your pretty little face in, until even your daddy will run away from you. Understand?"
Alya stalked away to her seat, not saying a single word until school was over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole class was buzzing with excitement, and by now, even Alya had softened a little, smiling as their teacher announced the time and place for the ball.
"It will start at 6:30, students. Please arrive at the gym on time. You are dismissed."
The class erupted in cheers as they bustled out of the room, trying to get home first. The girls in the class had all decided to meet at Alya's to get ready for the ball together. (Apart from Chloe.)
"Where's Marinette Alya, is she okay?" Rose asked.
"I don't know, Rose. I hope she is. When I saw her texts, they were crazy. Something about Adrien not coming, and some weird, nasty text message." Alya sighed, "But when I heard Adrien talking to Nino, I found out it was Chloe who has done the entire thing. Stealing Adrien's phone, then sending a mean message to Marinette."
Sabrina nodded.
"Although I'm not supposed to say this, I have to admit it. Chloe is nasty at times. She called me a dumb chicken yesterday. Just because I dropped her bag!" She groaned.
When they arrived at Alya's house, they shut the door of her room, and pulled out their dresses and masks.
"Well, looks like we'll all know who everyone is." Juleka said.
"Who cares? We can back each other up." Alya said.
Everyone smiled and nodded.
Alya took out her hanging dress from her closet, and everyone gasped in delight.
"Wow, it looks amazing! Where did you get it?" Rose squealed.
"Oh, this? Marinette made it. Isn't it fab?" Alya gushed.
"Marinette is awesome! I want one, too" Alix said.
"You should see Marinette's. She made her's too, but her one is white and has a flash of Chinese in it. I mean, she is half Chinese." Alya said.
The girls happily chattered on.
