Chapter 1

Gissel walks alone slowly under the willow trees covering the sidewalk. She felt the cold Autumn breeze rush by her. She bundles up in her jacket trying to stay warm she gets showered with red and orange leaves as she walks, her golden hair flowing behind her. She looks up at clouds and the crystal blue sky.

As she turns the corner she sees Washington High, the best school in California, she has lived in Hamilton village all her life and dreamed of adventure. There has been talking going around about a new kid but, new people come every year and many people leave but no one talks about that. When she walks down the long stone pathway passed crowds of kids in their cliques. The popular girls Amanda and her squad of goons Emily and Cassandra surrounded by the football guys. The cheerleaders the almost to preppy and happy girls who cant stop chanting. The Freaks, Geeks, Nerds,  Goths, Hipsters, and the oh so important Wannabes. And that leaves the weird kids who sit in the back of the class that no one talks to, Gissel and her 2 friends Jake and Carolina.

"Hey, guys," Gissel slowly walks up to them she is bundled in fluffy coats and waddles like a penguin. "What did you do last night?" Carolina looks at Gissel for a second and pulls out a frozen waffle "You didn't eat breakfast again!" Carolina scolds her. "You seriously know me too well." Gissel smiles and takes the frozen waffle. "You two know each other too well I swear its creepy sometimes." Jakes then tries to take part of the waffle. Just then one of the football guys walk by and bump into Jake making him fall "watch it, dude." Jakes blushed as red as a strawberry and mumbled "Senpai noticed me," and jumped up with joy!  I probably should have mentioned this earlier but Jake was gay and he had a long time crush on Pedro the football guy.

The first bell rang and Gissel grabbed her stuff and said goodbye. to her friends and started down the path to her class. Lucky for her the path was shaded with a few trees but, as she walked along the path she stopped and looked at a boy a boy sitting alone under a tree. She had never seen him before "He must be the new kid," She thought. She wanted to walk away and get to class before she would be late but something kept her there staring at this boy, he looked her age 15 but maybe he was 16. The more she looked at him the more this feeling grew inside her. A Longing like all her life she had been searching for something and she found it. Her heartbeat raced and she felt the urge to talk to him. Her legs started to move slowly like a baby deer learning to stand. He looked over at her and his deep brown eyes sparkled in the sunlight. You could see he felt the same way like they had finally found the light in a dark room. Like nothing else cared they would fight for each other and never stop thinking about the other one. The late bell rang and the two of them remembered where they were. By now Gissel would be rushing to her class shoving helpless Wannabes out of the way. Well, they aren't helpless they know they will get pushed out of the way if they stand in the path when the late bell rings. Her piercing green eyes turn away from him and she slowly walks to class.

She walks down the deserted hallway and opens the squeaky door, "You are late Gissel." Her teacher Mr. Brown scolds her. "sorry, I got distracted." It wasn't a full lie only half she wasn't sorry, not at all. She heads to her desk and drops her stuff with a loud bang her teacher looks at her again in annoyance. "As I was saying," Mr. Brown glares at her. "to find X you must first isolate Y" The rest of the class was a blur to her all she could think about was that boy, she had to find out his name but she had no idea when. She didn't even know what classes he was in. "Ill track him down at lunch!" She silently mumbled to her self. Unfortunately, it wasn't all that silent they boy next to her gave her a "You weirdo" look and moved his desk away. She let out a sigh and tried to focus on her work.

When the lunch bell finally rang Gissel rushed out of her seat and raced toward the door. leaving trails of papers behind her. She ran as fast as she could and met her friends at their usual table. Far away from the Jocks and Popular girls and wannabes. "Carolina," She panted grabbing her water and taking a big gulp. "I was drinking that!" Carolina protested but she soon saw the look in her friend's eye and said: "Spill it!" Jake put down his sandwich and leaned forward interested. "The new kid, I saw him and," She stopped for a second and looked at her wrist a lightning bolt appeared she didn't remember drawing on her hand "and this appeared. But I couldn't take my eyes off him! I was drawn to him!" She let out a big happy sigh and sank into her seat. "Gissel," Carolina began but Jake finished her sentence for her. "Gissel that's the mark that Genevieve had before she disappeared! She hasn't been seen since and that was what?" Jake asked Carolina. "Two years ago!" Carolina spat. "What? I must have drawn it on me! I don't remember anything in class, only him. But! I am not going to disappear!" She started to freak out. She tried to remember every class and she never had a black pen out. She never HAD a black pen before!

She barely ate and when the final bell rang to signal the end of the school day she just wanted to get home to sleep but, before she could start her walk home she bumped into him again. "Sorry," She said without looking up. "uh, Its fine. Wait? aren't you that girl from this morning?" She instantly looked up the rest of the world went in a blur and she could only see him. "Y-yeah," She stammered trying to get her words out. "I'm Gissel Foyer." She was quiet but he could hear her just fine. "I'm Jake Porter, im-" "The new kid." She interrupted. "Is it that obvious?" He asked and gave out a nervous laugh. He blushed slightly and gave her a crooked smile. He invited her to go to the park and just chat for a while. When they got there they just talked for hours and when the sun was starting to set he asked her, "Hey uh I know I just met you and all but there is a dance 2 weeks from now and," He fumbled over his words to embarrassed to say anything. "I would love to go!" She finished his sentence and ran off to her house. She was exhausted and went right to sleep.
