The Wonderful Julia Woods (Reprise)

I stared at my phone in shock when my dad's phone number suddenly lit up on the screen, he was calling me.

    Crap, what do I do?

"Is that your dad?" Greg asked, seeing as I had frozen up and he was leaning against my shoulder, where he could easily see my phone.

"You're dad's calling you?" Abby piped up, frowning.

"What should I do? He hasn't tried to call me before now!" I panicked.

It had been almost a week, and the bruise on my face had almost gone away, but it was still there. More importantly the feeling was still there. Did I even want to forgive him?

"You gotta hear what he has to say." Abby gasped.

"Yeah, and if he's starts talking trash you can tell him to suck-"

"Greg." I interrupted, not wanting to know where that was going.

I tentatively pressed answer and held it up to my ear.

"Micah?" It was his voice all right, he sounded serious.

"Yeah?" I replied, trying to sound annoyed.

There was a but of silence before he continued. "I'm sorry, I've been thinking about what you said and...about you a lot. I still love you, you know that?"

"You have a funny way of showing it." I was surprised when it came out of my mouth, I usually wasn't this...confident.

Greg made eye contact with me and he squeezed my hand gently, which gave me a surge of happiness.

"What I did was disgusting and wrong and if I had the chance to regrow it I would in a heart beat. It shouldn't matter who you love, you're still my son."

My mouth was dry, my heart was beating. My hands were shaking and I wished I had taken some valium before he called. I couldn't think of anything to say.

"You've made me realize I'd rather just have my son back, safe and happy, then straight and never see you again. I mean that. I'm sorry it took me so long to realize this. I love you so much, and I'll support you in everything you do. I'd love to have your boyfriend over for dinner if that's okay." He finished.

I was drowning in waves of relief. I'm so glad.

"I love you too Dad." I managed. "Um. Thank you. Thanks a lot. I'm not sure if he's ready for dinner yet though, Dad."

Abby and Greg's eyes widened in excitement. It sounded like it was going okay so far.

"Is he with you right now?"

"You wanna talk to him?" I frowned, glancing over at Greg, who shrugged.

    "If that's alright, yes."

I shrugged and passed my phone to Greg, who looked like he had no idea what to expect.

"Hello...yeah that's me. My name's Gregory." He started nodding gently.

Greg turned bright red. "S-sir! We've only been together for a few weeks."

He nodded a few times before handing the phone back to me, looking mortified.

"I approve." My dad said cheerfully. "Now, you probably have class to get to now don't you?"

    "Yeah." I replied.

"Well it's a relief to talk to you again. You wouldn't mind coming back over to this house would you? I wasn't kidding when I said I miss you."

"Yeah I'll talk to mom about it. Bye."

    "Bye."

I hung up and glanced at Greg, who was retreating back into his hoodie in a mortified fashion.

"He was very insistent that we do not have sex, just wait until they find out I'm trans." Greg muttered, pulling his hoodie strings tight so you could only see his mouth.

I blushed. "I'm so sorry about him."

    "You're trans?" Abby asked, curious.

Greg flinched. "Crap, well. Three people know now."

"No it's fine." Abby shrugged. "I'm just pleasantly surprised."

Greg stared, pausing for a moment. "Okay. Thanks."

Abby grinned and leaned over to hug him. Greg made fake gasping noises.

"Gregory?" A new voice called suddenly.

The three of us turned to see Julia holding her lunch tray, and looking very confused. Greg stiffened, and inched away form me, to make sure we weren't touching.

    "Hey Julia." He said nervously.

"I didn't know you were friends with these guys." She observed, sounding unsure.

Greg looked uncomfortable, he did that a lot. "Yeah, sorry I haven't caught up with you in a while. You want to sit here?"

"Yeah, sure." She agreed, hesitantly, taking her lunch tray to sit next to us.

There was a bit of an awkward silence for a bit as none of us knew what say. Greg looked down at his now extremely interesting lunch, uncomfortably aware of how close we were. Julia didn't know, I had gathered that much. I didn't like this. Especially now that he had been leaning against me just minutes ago, and now my mind was free to tell me all the ways this conversation could go wrong.

"The play's doing really well." I commented, trying to break the silence.

"Yeah." Abby followed up, taking the conversation form my hands as I breathed a sigh of relief. "I've been dropping in on some of your practices and you guys are doing really good. I'm backstage by the way."

Julia's eyes widened. "Oh are you? That's so cool, I've always wanted to try out for backstage, but I usually go for acting because I like it more and looks way easier, I don't know how you guys do it."

They started chatting and Greg seemed a bit more at ease now that the attention was no longer on him. I bet he felt bad for keeping us a secret from Julia. Especially if they were as close as I thought they were. I caught Greg's eye, he had pulled up his hood and smirked at me slightly, then reached over for my hand, brushing his fingers over mine lightly, under the table. Thank goodness it was broad daylight and you couldn't see the glow from the neck of my t-shirt.

"How did you guys meet?" Julia suddenly asked me.

Greg's hand disappeared and I pursed my lips.

    "Uh...detention." I spit out.

Julia raised an eyebrow. "Detention, you?"

"There was a misunderstanding, it was my fault. Turns out we have a lot in common." Greg played along, nodding along with my story.

I couldn't believe I was lying to her. I was lying to Julia. Sure I didn't have a crush on her anymore, but I still respected her. She was still one of my idols. I hated this. I felt sick. I wanted Greg's touch again to make it go away but I couldn't while her attention was focused on me.

Greg met my gaze for a second and I could tell he knew.

Julia snorted in a non-threatening adorable Julia way. "You two? What kind of things do you have in common? I'm so curious now."

Well for starters we both really like kissing each other. My hands were shaking now, I didn't want to out either of us. There just wasn't anyway I could lead this conversation. Did I leave my prescription in my locker? I think I did.

    "Chocolate milkshakes." Greg said proudly.

I swelled with relief. That part was true.

"Oh, that's oddly specific." She observed.

Her phone buzzed and I almost sighed with relief. She picked it up and frowned, looking extremely dissatisfied.

"My mom's calling. She's always get's on my tail for not picking up the phone. I'll be right back you guys." Julia informed, holding her phone to her ear and rushing away to somewhere quiet.

As soon as she turned a corner Greg whipped around and grabbed my hand, squeezing it. "What's going on with you?"

Abby gave me a look of realization as her little prophecy came true right before her eyes.

"I'm s-sorry." I stammered, staring at his hand as I felt myself come back down to earth. "I really like Julia okay, lying to her feels so wrong, and she doesn't deserve that."

"I know, I don't like it either, but I'm not sure if either of us are ready for that yet...right?" He assured.

I shook my head. "You're right. I just...I used to have a crush on her and it's just...weird."

Greg's eyes widened, but only slightly. "Oh. I was wondering why you were always so nice to her."

"What are you talking about, Micah's nice to everyone." Abby pffted.

Greg turned to look at her, he still had my hand. "Yeah but you always went out of your way for really small things."

    "You noticed that?" I blinked.

Greg raised an eyebrow. "I'm gay, I notice all the sweet, handsome, guys."

That made me blush, so I stammered and looked away. He was still holding my hand. I didn't want him to let go.

Julia never came back to our table. I didn't see her for the rest of the day, I mean we didn't share any other classes. Not until play practice. Greg jumped me in the empty school hallway outside the auditorium.

"Abby wanted me to tell you that should couldn't make it this time, family emergency, something about her grandmother trying to move in again." Greg explained.

"Oh geeze." I snorted. "I guess that means it's just me and you."

He looked up at me slyly (I did kinda tower over him at times) before looping his arms around my neck so fast I nearly fell over. It had the desired effect however, it made me low enough to kiss. Which Greg did. Though it was cut short because I was laughing so hard.

Then all of a sudden the auditorium doors burst open. Greg and I jumped away from each other, but there wasn't a human standing there gasping at us. It was just a blur of a person.

Julia Woods ran past us, sobbing violently.

Greg and I both glanced at each other for a moment before we both headed after her.
