The Kiss

I was looking forward to seeing Abby today. I had been so caught up with Greg that I hadn't seen her all of spring break. It was kinda strange, and I missed her.

"Wake up sleepy head, we gotta go to school." I shook Greg lightly.

He screamed gently into his pillow. "Augh."

"Better hurry if you want bathroom privileges."

His head shot up and he screeched again. "What do you mean bathroom privileges, Micah we're dating not siblings."

"Thank goodness, that would be awkward."

He look so very confused. "It's to early for this."

Ten minutes later we were off to school. We ended up being late because my mom was busy, so we missed Abby. I bit my lip, this wasn't a good start to the day.

She wasn't at lunch either, which is when I started to get worried.

"Do you think she's avoiding me?" I asked Greg, picking at today's macaroni in a stressed fashion.

"Abby? That's ridiculous." Greg frowned. "Do you think Julia would avoid me?"

"No...?"

"There you go. Neither of our platonic girlfriends are going anywhere." He reasoned.

"Huh. I guess you're right." I realized.

Greg suddenly looked over my shoulder, an I heard footsteps approach. I glanced behind me to see Arthur hesitantly standing there, looking extremely unsure of what he was doing. He tensed up when I turned around.

"Hey..." He started, awkwardly, glancing between me and Greg uncertainly.

"Hello, come sit." I patted the spot next to me.

He relaxed, somewhat, and set his lunch tray down next to mine. He started to eat, still looking very embarrassed.

"Sorry." He started. "I don't really have anywhere else to sit. My friends kind of ditched me after I broke up with Julia."

"Their loss." Greg said only a little less blunt then usual.

Arthur smiled, just a bit. "So is he...is he like...with us?"

He glanced to me, and it took me a while to decipher. "Queer? Oh yes. Greg?"

"I'm gay, and willing to accept you into our friend group." He started. "but if I find out that your using this information to ruin our reputation, well, my reputation-"

"Ouch." I snorted.

"-then I'm going to personally make sure you regret it." Greg finished, throwing him a look.

Arthur looked slightly stunned. "Y-yes sir."

"That's what I want to hear." Greg nodded, he smirked slightly at being called 'sir'.

Arthur fiddled with his fingers, lunch momentarily forgotten. "Well...I guess since we're doing this....I should...like come out or something. So, um. I'm bi."

Greg's prickly facade softened a bit. "That's cool."

"I'm bi as well, but like both of you already know that." I added helpfully.

Arthur let out a sigh. "That felt really good."

I couldn't help but smile as I realized I was becoming some sort of queer yoda, teaching youth in the ways of the gays.

"So we should set some ground rules." Greg started. "Micah's completely out, both his parents know, and all of us. I'm completely out, but the two of us are keeping it quiet at school. You probably get it."

Arthur nodded. "I haven't told my parents, um, I don't really think I ever will."

"And that's perfectly fine. You don't have to do anything you're uncomfortable with." I added.

He grinned sheepishly. "Thanks."

"So keep it inside the circle." Greg finished.

"Who else is in the circle?" Arthur asked curiously.

"Abby, and Julia. Julia's just an ally though. Abby's completely open about it and will answer any of your questions." I established.

He nodded. "Cool cool."

"You seem excited." Greg remarked, somewhat dryly.

Arthur grinned again but toned it down, desperately trying to keep his too-cool-for-school facade up.

"I'm just really glad I have a circle now. I um..." He blushed. "I kinda have a crush."

I blinked and glanced t him. I ooooed, and poked his shoulder lightly. "Oooo are you gonna tell us who it is?"

Arthur stammered. "M-maybe? It's kinda new. Or I think it's new. I'm not exactly sure how long I've had a crush on him."

Greg was done playing bad cop and had scooted closer. "We won't tell we swear."

Arthur glanced around. "Okay...it's Alex."

My jaw dropped. Greg smirked and sipped his box of orange juice.

"Yeah he's cute." Greg agreed.

Arthur buried his face in his hands, blushing madly. "I know."

I didn't want to burst Arthur's bubble, but Alex had already told me he had a crush on someone else. I decided to keep quiet about it. Alex was no Gregory, but I guess I can see why Arthur would find him attractive.

"I know I've been acting like kind of a jerk lately, but I've been trying really hard not to mess up around him." Arthur sighed. "Is it obvious?"

"Not at all." I blinked. "Like really, not at all. Or maybe that's just me. Whenever we talk about you it's him trying to convince me you're not a terrible person."

Arthur stared at me. "He...he really says that about me?"

"I would be more concerned with the fact that Micah thought you were a terrible person." Greg mused.

"Oh I know I'm a terrible person. I'm just...Alex doesn't think that?" Arthur asked again.

"Definitely not." I confirmed.

Arthur hid a blush again and we enjoyed our lunch together.

I was starting to really worry about Abby though. I texted her a few times, but not a lot because I didn't want to seem overbearing. It made me feel kinda sick though. I almost skipped play practice because I felt like I was gonna throw up.

Oh God, the play.

"Just a week left of practice until we move to tech week people, time to perfect your pronunciation." Mrs. Frieda sang and she danced into the auditorium.

"Are you okay? You don't look to peachy." Alex commented as we hoped up onto the stage.

"I'm...I'm doing okay." I half lied. "I've never performed like...on a stage before."

The thought of it was absolutely terrifying.

Alex nodded in sympathy. "Yeah, it's really unnerving the first time. I find it goes away once you actually start your first few lines."

I nodded, unconvinced. Alex noticed this and patted me on the back helpfully.

"You're gonna do great. I know it." He encouraged.

"Thanks." I smiled weakly.

Arthur was watching us from across the stage. Or he was probably watching Alex. I was wrong, he was definitely staring at Alex.

We did a good run through and finished up. I felt a little better afterwords, especially when I found Abby waiting for me backstage.

"Abby!" I said relived to see her at last.

She glanced up at me. "Oh, hi Micah. What's up?"

"I haven't seen you in forever." I sighed happily.

She gave raised an eyebrow. "It's been like, a week. Sorry about that by that way, I've been busy preparing for tech week."

I noticed something was off. She seemed...tired.

"You okay?" I asked, concerned.

She nodded. "Overworked, that's all. Do you-?"

"Abbigail, we need you over here!" Another guy shouted, they were putting away sets.

Abby sighed. "Sorry, maybe we can hang out later."

I waved as she walked away. "Yeah."

That took me down a few notches mood wise. I feel like I should do something for her, maybe throw her a small comfort party. Of course I have no idea how I would do that, but the idea seemed nice.

"Is Abby doing okay?" Julia asked me, she must have been watching from afar.

"I think so, just tired. How have you been doing?"

Julia smiled weakly. "I'm doing okay. My parents are still being maniacs, but I'm dealing. Thanks for the support, Micah."

"Aw, it's no problem." I scratched the back of my head. "I'm just glad you're okay."

"Yeah me too." She sighed.

"What up, giants." Greg approached, I assumed he was referring to him being the smallest member of this trio.

"Greg!" Julia said happily. "I heard everything, I'm so happy for you!"

She shrieked a little more and wrapped her arms around him. "Congratulations on starting T!"

Greg gasped for breath. "Julia, air."

She let him go. "Sorry, I'm just, so happy for you."

Greg smiled, "me too."

"You ready to go home?" I asked, as I picked up my backpack.

"Yeah." He nodded, as we walked out of the auditorium. "Just one more thing."

"Wha- mph!"

He cut me off with a kiss, smiling into it as he wrapped his hands around the back on my head. Cheeky move, Smith, cheeky move. He didn't let me go either, my head was spinning when he finally backed away.

"You wouldn't be half as hard to kiss if I didn't have to pull you back down to earth, you darn behemoth." He shook his head.

I laughed, and leaned down again when Greg suddenly pushed me away, looking over my shoulder. I spotted someone behind us.

Isaac was standing there, staring.

"Oh, this is rich." He commented.

I felt a stab of fear ram itself into my stomach as I realized he was implementing blackmail again.

"Who are you?" Greg demanded.

The door opened again, and Abe poked his head through. "Isaac! I'm so sorry, what is he trying to do now?"

I blinked, trying to keep control of my nerves. "It's fine Abe."

"Abayomi!" Isaac taunted. "Greg kissed Micah."

Abe frowned. "I know. They're dating."

Isaac smirk faltered. "Oh."

He jumped from Abe's grasp and scuttled back into the theatre to do who knows what.

"I'm sorry about that, don't let him bother you." Abe sighed, before chasing in after him.

"That kid is a little-"

"Greg." I interrupted.

He looked at, noticing I wasn't feeling one hundred percent. "What's wrong?"

"He knows? What if he tells?" I breathed. "I don't know if I'm ready for that."

Greg reached for my hand. "I don't think it'll be that bad."

I shrugged. "I guess. It's just...this is personal."

"Well no one else is going to start dating me Micah. I'm yours only." He pointed out.

"Yeah. Yeah I guess you're right. I'll just worry about it tomorrow." I decided.

"Let's go home and watch superhero movies, Captain America is the best not to mention the hottest out of Avengers, so one with him in it."

I rolled my eyes. "Sure thing Bucky. It's not like we have homework or anything."

"Homework can wait two hours. And what did you just call me?"
