•Hunter's POV•
I was sitting in the cafeteria with the guys from my youth group. My water games were after this, so I was trying to put myself together to endure the rain. Needless to say, the rain didn't stop.
I looked over my shoulder to the front doors where the smattering sounds of rain filled the space. I noticed Kaila walk in with Amber and few other people. I smiled widely watching my girlfriend, soaked from the rain, laugh with her friends.
I quickly got up and dumped my tray. I was dying to talk to her. I hadn't seen her since morning chapel, I wanted to know how water games were.
I walked in her direction, and Amber noticed me first. "Hi Hunter!" She blurted.
Kaila turned around and smiled looking at me. "Hi cutie."
"Hello gorgeous." I cheesed. I got this intense feeling to hug her, kiss her, anything. Her eyes said so many things, I tried to understand them all.
I walked with them as they got their food and sat down next to Kaila. Something wasn't right; I knew her better than I knew myself, and she didn't seem okay.
I grabbed her hand, and that small ounce of touch seemed to release whatever tension she was holding in her shoulders.
I was still dying to know how games went. "Hey Lah?" She turned to face me, our hands still touching. "How were water games?"
She seemed to be uncomfortable by the question. "Um, they were okay. Cold as usual. Especially in the rain." She laughed awkwardly, taking another bite of her food. I rubbed the backside of her hand, comforting her a little more. She continued eating quietly until it was time for me to leave for water games.
"Hey sweet, I have to go now." I said, smiling softly.
"Okay, I'll go with you." She said standing up. Our hands dropped back to our sides, and we walked out of the cafeteria. Amber joined us in our little escapade. The rain had lightened up a bit, but it was still a bit cold.
Still concerned, I snuck a little kiss on the top of her head. She gasped loudly and instantly looked up at me. We weren't allowed to do that, but she was down about something. I didn't know what it was.
"What's your midday?" I asked, skipping over the fact I had kissed her head at camp.
"It was going to be volleyball, but it's rainy. I guess I'll go over and check it out. But wait a second," She smiled, "You broke the rules."
I smiled sheepishly and looked away. How could I not have? She was obviously sad and I knew that would make her happy. "Come on, you know you loved it."
I looked over at Amber, she wasn't looking at us though. I noticed her looking at someone. I didn't know who it was, but she seemed to be watching his every move. "Amber?" I called to her. She didn't seem to hear me. "Amber!" I called again. Still she didn't answer. I was kinda concerned, I mean, shouldn't she be looking at Alex? They were dating after all..
I leaned down to Kaila, "Do you know who she's looking at?"
She looked in Amber's direction. Confused, she turned back at me. "Um, I think his name is Compass?"
I'd heard that name before.. I couldn't remember from where tho

Later that day, during free time, I decided to find Alex and go to the game room. It was always a blast being in there when it's rainy. The rain hadn't really let up at all.
"Yo!" Alex called, walking over to me. I was standing next to the entrance of the game room. I smiled seeing my boy. "Dude, this rain is gnarly."
I laughed. "True." We did a little handshake before going inside. In there were a bunch of people. Just playing carpet ball and sitting around talking. There was one empty table that Alex and I snatched before it was taken.
"Alright, so," Alex said, rubbing his hands together, "Once one of those carpet ball tables are empty, then we can snatch one and play a couple rounds."
I laughed. "Dude, you and I both know that thats not gonna happen. People are relentless when it comes to carpet ball. We have to dominate them, and then we get to play."
"Aight bet." He jumped to his feet and went to one of the three carpet ball tables. We watched for a little bit, and soon it was Alex's turn. We'd been coming to camp for some time now, so he was really good. Honestly, if this was a team game, his team would win every time.
"Come on! Is that all you got?" A kid, I would say in seventh grade, mocked.
"I could mop you up; you play too dirty." Alex came back. It wasn't a very good comeback but, it was Alex. What you gonna do?
They went back and forth until Alex won. Of course he did. He couldn't play any sport, but it came to this game? Unstoppable. Alex shot his fists up in the air and walked around. The kid looked defeated, he walked away disappointed.
Alex chased after him. "Hey, wait!" The kid stopped. "What's your name?"
"Caleb."
Alex smiled, "Nice to meet you Caleb. I'm Alex." He extended his hand for a handshake. "You got game, little dude. Before you know it, you could beat me!"
Alex's character I have to say was one that perplexed me. He always had seemed like a tough skinned guy, but his love for children ran deep. He attracted a lot of ladies, because he showed kindness towards kids. He still had a year left, but he said his plan was to go into kids ministry. Had to give him props.
The kids who were at the table with us played more rounds of carpet ball. I sat at one of the tables next to a window and admired the rain.
