•Amber's POV•
"Amber! Oh my gosh! Are you okay?!" Kallen immediately rushed over to me, but he limped his right leg.
"I'm fine! Are you okay?"
"I'm not positive. The officer said I'll need some stitches. And Ellen. . ."
Then I remembered the other person, with a little protruding stomach, sitting on the curb. "Ellen?"
"Yeah, she got a head injury." His voice choked. He darted his head down. He softly cried. "I did everything possible for me to be the one who got hurt. It was my stupid, careless driving that got us into this wreck! And now, that you got hurt too, I. . . I don't know if I—"
I immediately wrapped my arms around him. Though he was taller than me, his body felt limp, and I just held him. He cried into my shoulder. I'd never seen him so upset before. He'd always been such a strong person.
After he was done crying, he stood up, wiping his eyes. "Please. Whatever you do, please don't tell Kaila. I don't want her worrying on the best week of the year. Especially since it's Hunter's last year."
I nodded. Then I remembered, after all of this commotion, I had forgotten that it was in fact Tuesday, and camp was today.
I gasped, and grabbed my phone. I had missed seven called from Kaila, four calls from Alex, and two calls from Hunter. They must be worried sick.
I then called Hunter. He picked up after two rings.
"Amber! Where are you?"
"Um, still at home. We got into a little. . . predicament, and I don't know how I'll be able to get there."
I heard a muffled noise from the phone. "I'll be there in five." Then he hung up.
"Amber, sweetheart, come over here." I went over to where mum was standing. "Let me see your arm."
I turned my arm for her to see. It honestly didn't hurt. "Mum, it doesn't hurt. Plus, we were supposed to be at the church twenty minutes ago and—" I took a deep breath. "Hunter is coming to pick me up."
Kallen gasped behind me. I heard him mumbling. "No, no, no. I can't let him see me like this!"
"Kallen, honey, you are hurt. You and Ellen need to go to the ER. I will call your mum, and let her know."
"The paramedics have been trying to get me into the ambulance for about ten minutes. I just can't."
This was so unlike the Kallen I knew. He's so paranoid, scared about something.
"Sir. You really need to get in. Your leg is bleeding out of its bandage. Please get in, or else we will have to put you in there."
"No, I—I just can't!" He hid his head in his hands.
I marched over to him, and lifted his head up. "Kallen Jorden! Get in the ambulance or I will tell Kaila what happened. Do you want that on your conscience?"
"No." He replied softly.
"Get in."
Fearfully, he nodded and got in the ambulance. Ellen had already gone in a different one.
Right after they had driven away, Hunter arrived. Thankfully, Kaila was not with him.
"Hunter! Thank the Lord on high you are here."
"Yes, but I told everyone that they could go on without us. I'm driving us to camp."
"Kaila is okay with this?" I replied smiling.
He smiled. "Yes, she is okay with this."
"You'd better get going if you're going to get there on time." Mum said from behind me. "I had to climb through the entire car to get your case, but I've got it for you."
I smiled, hugging her. "Thank you mum!"
"Of course." She smiled, pulling away. "Now go! I wouldn't want you to miss the best week of your life."
I smiled. "Love you mum!"
"Love you too! Now go!"
I grabbed my things, and put them in Hunter's car. "Shoot! I forgot my camera!"
I quickly ran as fast as I could inside my house and up to my room. I grabbed the backpack with my camera in it, running back downstairs.
Out of breath, I finally got into Hunter car.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Yep. Now let's pray that nothing else will happen."
I waved to my mum as we drove down the street, away from the mess that just happened. I just hoped that this wouldn't ruin this camp experience for me.
