•Kaila's POV•
Service was really good tonight. I took in everything that Pastor Sean said. I loved it.
After service, Hunter, Amber, Alex and I went to the snack shack. I was worried about Amyra and Asia, though. This was their first year and they probably didn't know where they were going. But, I decided not to worry. Maybe they'll find Jordan and Claire and they can help them.
Us four decided to get a couple snacks and then had back to our cabins.
"I'm so hungry, I could eat an entire cow." Alex said, rubbing his stomach.
Amber rolled her eyes. "Alex, you need to not be so loud about your hunger pains."
"But, babe, I barely ate anything at dinner."
She held a finger up, shutting him up for a minute. "First of all, none of this 'babe' business. I didn't say you could call me that. And second, you ate all of your meal and half of mine."
"It's true." Hunter cut in.
Amber gave him a glare, and I laughed. Hunter had crossed a line he wasn't supposed to.
"Babe," Alex continued, Amber cringed. "I'm a growing boy. I should be able to eat as much as I want."
"Alexander James." She scolded. "You can get one thing. One!"
A couple guys in front of us, started to gawk and got involved in this conversation.
"You just got told, son!" A darker skinned guy said. His friend across him agreed.
"Yeah?" Alex said, making a big deal out of it. He went over to where the other two guys were sitting.
"Yeah!" The guy stood, towering over him by at least half a foot.
"Aight, I see how it is. You're takin' her side."
Amber cleared her throat. "The side that's right."
"Yeh, I am. And if you want to maintain this relationship, you're gonna have to listen to her."
Amber crossed her arms and cocked her hip. Smiling because, she was obviously right.
This guy was taking it too seriously, though. They didn't know Alex like we did. We didn't want a remake of last year.
"Yeah," Alex slumped. "I guess you're right. This time."
Then both of the boys started laughing hysterically. This was so fun to watch.
"What's your name, man?" Alex asked, taking the guy's hand.
"Compass, yourself?"
"Alex, as you probably heard my girlfriend tell you."
"Alexander James." Compass laughed.
"Yeah, well what's your middle name."
"Technically, Compass, is not my real name. It's actually Samuel Marcus. My buds just call me Compass."
"And why's that?"
"I am, Samuel Marcus Northeast. At least, that's what my birth certificate says."
"That's cool man. I'm Alexander James Kennedy." Alex had so much pride in his name, I'm glad he did. . .sometimes. "And this is my girlfriend, Amberl—" He paused, looking at the death glare she was giving him. "Amber Gale." He finished.
"She don't have a middle name?"
"Oh, she does. But, that is for me to know, and you to not." She then grabbed my wrist. "Excuse me, my friend and I are going to grab some snacks."
"Bye!" I said, as I was dragged to the line. This place was almost always crowded, so being weaved through people just standing and talking, wasn't fun.
We finally got to the front of the line, because no one was there. "I'll have a soft pretzel and a gatorade, please." Amber ordered. She then paid, then I got some ice cream.
Amber and I weaved our way back out of the snack shack and into the brisk summer air.
"So, why did you—" I attempted to ask.
She shushed me. "Not here. Let's go back to the cabin."
"Oh, okay."
So, we walked back to the cabin in silence. We heard people talking around us in the slightly lit pathway to the cabin. We then went into our cabin, and she pulled me into our dorm.
She looked around, checking the area. To her luck, no one was here.
"Okay, you have to promise me not to tell anyone this okay?"
"Of course."
"Not even Hunter."
I stayed silent for a minute. But I realized that my best friend meant a little more than him. "Okay."
She nodded, and then braced herself. "So, last year, you remember when I had that dream about two guys, one being Alex and the other being some African-American guy?"
I tried to remember. "Hm, vaguely."
"Well, in this dream I had chose him over Alex. And everything felt, strange and then pineapples grew in the ocean."
"What?"
"Nothing, that's beside the point." She sighed. "I realized that, that's him. Compass, is the guy."
I covered my mouth. "No way, he's real?!"
"Yes!" She looked around again, and then dropped her head. "Look, Kaila, I love Alex undoubtedly, but if this dream is true. . ."
I took her hands. "Look. I will try to make this not happen. Okay? Let's just remember that you're dating Alex. You've worked your tail off to try and make this work, after all the little complications both of you have been through. I love you, and I don't want you to be with Compass." She nodded agreeing. I continued. "Whatever you do, ignore him best you can, okay?"
She nodded again. "Where would I be without you?"
I smiled and hugged her. I needed to protect my friend, and protect Alexamber's relationship, no matter how hard it would be.
