Saving Tsubaki

Maka's POV:

After running down the longest hallway in history (seriously Soul's family you couldn't have a normal mansion with hidden doors behind book shelves? You just had to have long hallways that take forever to get through!?) I finally came across a single door way. There were no other ways Tsubaki could've turned, it was a one way path unless she jumped into one of the rooms along the way.

Instead of wasting my time, I decide to just look for her soul. (A/N: Back in episode two when this was used I cannot think of what it's called, please help me.) Her calming soul was behind the door right in front of me, but there was an older soul with her. I looked down and saw that Soul and Black Star were somewhere below me with Hilary. Okay, so that stings a little bit, but I'll live.

I tried searching for more souls it seems Kid, Liz, and Patty somehow were on the other side of the room to my left. I ignored how they could've been separated because there was only one way, it shouldn't be that difficult to follow. There must've been about 30 other readable souls in the house but I ignored them, most were just ignorant and corrupt. Instead I opened the door in front of me going back to my normal sight.

"Tsubaki?" I called out, but I was shh'd very quickly by Tsubaki who was standing next to an elderly looking woman with white hair and wrinkles folding her skin into weird patters. There were so many machines hooked up to the dainty woman.

"Ah, so you two are the new nurses? It's so nice to see the young helping the elderly." The woman laughed gently. "Unfortunately, I've reached the age that I can no longer even play the piano, and my violin and clarinet skills left me many years earlier. It hurt to play, but I did play, for as long as I could." The woman smiled and beckoned me over.

"I didn't think my son would allow me to have more nurses. I've always loved talking with them, after he fired the last ones I was afraid he'd leave me alone here."

"Oh, we're-" I started, but a pointed look from Tsubaki quieted me. She motioned to her eyes then to the woman again. I understood she wanted me to study her soul, so I did. After a closer observation I realized . . . this woman was dying. She wouldn't make it past the next two hours maybe even less.

"My family is too caught up in their own problems right now, and . . . it may come as a shock, but," The lady paused to chuckle sadly. "I'm actually dying, so you'd both be doing me some good to stick around. Maybe find my grandchildren so I can speak with them again."

"Of course," I answered nearly on the verge of tears. "Who are your grandchildren?" I asked sitting on a stool near her bed.

"Oh, they're two skilled musicians, but more than that they're so brilliant. They're the two sweetest boys you'll ever hope to meet. Both are more loyal than some old dog, and both have their faults, that's a given. The youngest . . . he ran away from his issues here instead of figuring out what he wanted . . . he went with everything that the family wanted. The oldest still has that issue, he still listens to the family instead of following his own dreams and knowledgeable opinions." The woman tried explaining.

"The youngest . . . he finally started facing his problems. That school must be helping him. He came home for the first time in years." She started talking again and starring at the door. "He told me all these stories, and it was as if he had a personality again. He was my little tyke again. The one who wasn't affected by what his parents wanted or what a horrible gold digger wants either."

My eyes widened as I began putting the pieces together. "I'll . . . I could go find your grandchildren for you, if you'd like." I offered again.

"No, thank you dear, but they don't need to come quite yet. You know . . ." She started talking again. "He was talking about a girl. She seemed really sweet. I wish I could meet her, he really seemed to be smitten. He said he was living with her and she was a little book worm, I told him 'she sounds a lot like how I was, but with books instead of music' I assume they're one in the same though, my nose in a music book, hers in a story. It's the same to me. He also said 'she's very plain and doesn't seem like much, but . . . she's pretty amazing. She's the greatest partner I could've ever hoped to have gotten'. So, you two girls . . . if you could get my little Soul with this girl who he's in love with . . . I think that'd be my final wish." She finished talking and crossed her arms.

"Who's the girl?" Tsubaki asked smiling secretively.

"A young dirty blonde girl, her name was Maka Albarn. I told Soul though, 'You'd better hold onto that girl, make sure she knows what she means to you'. That only made him blush though." She finally answered, which made Tsubaki smile triumphantly and me blush like no tomorrow.

The woman, I mean Soul's Grandmother, kept rambling about all the adventures that Soul and I had been on. It was quite embarrassing, but still . . . really sweet. Soul told all of these things to his grandma, and most of the things she said were about me saving him or him saving me.

"Would you like if I went and got Soul?" Tsubaki finally asked after Soul's grandma took a break between stories. After a moment of silence she finally started speaking again.

"It seems that it's about time to go and get him." She finally answered quietly. "It's . . . it's quite strange . . . I can feel myself slipping away. I think it's about time my family came together and finally put aside their differences, but it'd be a shame either way."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Well, it's my being on the death bed, being the only thing that could bring my family together in peace for one more time, and this might not even stop the fighting. I doubt Wes will stay for long after I'm gone. Thankfully that witch Hilary will be gone after Soul finally gets with that Maka girl, and my son and his wife may finally realize that money wasn't everything in the end."

"I-I-I'll go get Soul and your family." I announced standing up, tears gathering at my eyes. "I promise I'll get everyone together so you can see that it didn't take your death to get them together, just . . . just your words." I wiped my eyes and made my way to the door.

"Stay here, Tsubaki. I'll be back soon with everyone." I decided, Tsubaki nodded and sat back down.

"Right." Tsubaki whispered.

Soul's grandma looked up at me with grateful eyes. "Thank you, Maka."

"You knew it was me?" I asked surprised.

"I'd be a fool not to. You're exactly how he described and you were blushing the entire time, I'd be a fool not to." She winked.

With a new maroon red color painting my face, I went to find the Evans family for a meeting, but I'd only have about an hour and a half before the oldest Evans would no longer be able to attend.
