*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Was this even the right decision ?"
Maka stared at her piles of books, but behind them was the window of her dorm---and the sky full of stars. She felt... Empty. It had only been three years. Three years and six months. She managed to survive through all of it---and after seven more months, she'll be back home.
To him.
"...I haven't even moved on yet..."
Time was too fast. She tried to forget him--but every little thing she saw reminded her of him.
Flowers--he never liked flowers.
Books--he snatched them away to make her sleep.
Food--they share it together.
Her bed--it was blue and so was his--although his was messy.
The window--they snuck out through it so they can lay on the roof.
The sky full of stars--she watched them together with him.
Every single thing...
And it didn't help her move on. It only made her feelings worse. She missed him so bad, even if all he did was shrug her efforts away. Even if all he did was ignore her feelings. Even if he... Didn't love her back.
"...I want to go back home..."
She mumbled, and teared up, curling up on her chair.
She wanted to see him again.
She wanted to talk to him again.
She wanted to eat with him again.
She wanted him to steal her books away so she'd sleep and rest again.
She wanted to... Be with him. Again.
She sighed deeply, and stared out at the widow.
"...I won't forget you. And I regret saying I will, and I would."
*Four year timeskip~*
"...A month's passed since the day she left---four years ago."
Soul thought with a sigh, staring up at the sky. He finished school by now--and is working in a coffee shop as a waiter. He had to pay for rent, at least. He had to stay in where they used to live...
She might still come back.
Oh, she will be back.
And he's hoping she wasn't able to move on.
Lights were slowly being switched off in the town--according to his view from his roof. It was almost midnight and, well, they're headed to bed to sleep or do something.
"Maybe she grew taller ? Maybe she wears glasses now...?" He thought with a small smile, staring at the scattered stars in the sky.
"...Maybe she's sleeping now... Or staring up at this as well ?"
----
"He's asleep, for sure." Maka thought as she stared up at the cloudy weather from her window, sitting on her desk filled with books. It was afternoon for them, and... Well, she was packing her things.
Tonight was the time she'd fly back.
"He never stood up past nine." She smiled sadly, taking a stack of her books and placing them in her bag. "...And never even tried to stay up late."
"Maka," Her father, Spirit, said from the door, holding a bright smile. "You ready ?"
Maka turned to him, and gave a nod. "Yup. Be there in a few minutes."
"Good. We don't want to miss our flight."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"...Long ride... Yeesh." Maka muttered, rubbing her eyes as she dragged her stuff behind her, walking out of the airport. Not like she cared. All she wanted was to go back. To see him. Again. After a long time.
It was a good thing she still remembered her way back. It was just a walk away ! She and Soul used to walk around to pass time so much that they almost memorized a mental map of the city in their minds...
And indeed, it was useful.
Things have changed. Not much, but they were noticable. Stores. Stalls. People. Some were still there when she left, and others were new faces to her. Maybe they transfered homes.
Maybe he did, too...
"No ! Don't think like that !"
She sighed deeply, and continued walking, staring ahead calmly.
...A blue apartment. With white outlines of windows and such. But the inside... Was dark. Really dark. Why ? It was about morning now, since she left the other country at night...
It's their apartment ! But then she remembered----Soul liked the dark so much. "It gave peace and privacy. Sure, other people are paranoid enough to think there's someone watching but to me it makes me feel alone. And I like it. Being alone meant no one had to interfere."
His exact words. Maka made a small smile. Soul... If the apartment's all dark---does that mean he's still there ?
Living... Alone...
It gave her a feeling of pity. So he stayed and lived there alone ? Why ? Maybe he knew it'd be the first place Maka would walk back to when she comes back...?
That's possibility. But Soul never missed anyone. "In life, people come and go. It's normal. But you also have to know who's worth chasing after when they leave."
Chase... Maka furrowed her eyebrows slightly. Four years back, she waited for Soul to come in the airport... Only to wait for nothing. It hurt, of course. So she just left a note.
But by the window, she saw him... Running. Chasing after their plane. The entrance.
"...So was I worth it ?"
Her train of thoughts popped away when she reached the apartment. Still the same door. And same door ornaments. Soul didn't change much, huh ?
Maka took a deep breath, readying herself. What would his reaction be...?
"...Hello ?" She muttered, knocking.
Soon, she heard shuffles. Obviously from the couch since there was a thud and a groan.
"...Ugh... Who is it...?"
That voice. Maka almost tensed up. It's still him, she was right ! He's here !
"...Maka."
Then there was silence.
The door quickly opened, and ih revealed Soul in a gray, baggy sweatshirt and a pair of pajamas. His hair was a mess, and his forehead had a bump. Maybe he fell asleep on the couch and fell to wake up ?
"...Maka ?" He muttered in a husky voice since he just woke up, rubbing his eyes and staring wide. "That's really you ?"
"It's me." Maka made a small laugh, turning away. "...Listen, Soul, I---"
"I knew it !" Soul said with a wide grin, and chuckled loudly, hugging her tight. "I knew you'd come back !" He said, obviously overjoyed.
...Soul... Used to hide his emotions so much.
But at the moment, it's obvious he doesn't care ! Maka blushed, taking in the minty scent of his clothes since her face was burried in his chest when he hugged her.
"S-soul-"
He's happy to see her ? Maka was surprised. She thought he'd hate her already !
But he didn't...
"Maka, listen," Soul pulled away, and bent over to her height, before gripping her shoulders tightly. "I-I want you to know that I---" He hesitated, and stared down, as if surprised. Maka, however, was stuck standing still in surprise.
"...U-uh..." He stuttered, and looked down. "...L-look... I'm sorry for how I was... Treating your feelings or something... I-I mean, all I did was... Not care... And I know that it hurt you..."
"...It's okay." Maka made a small smile. "...It's who you are. You tend to do that. Besides, I already know that you don't love me anyways..." She didn't want to, but a small frown formed in her lips. "And I accept that."
Soul stared down with wide, red eyes, before quickly shaking his head. "N-no, no Maka... Uh..." He took her hand and pulled her in the apartment, before sighing deeply. "...I..."
"...You what ?"
"...Y-you see... I-I find it really hard to say how I feel... And that I know I don't deserve you..."
Maka looked confused. "...Get to the point, Soul. What is it...?"
Soul sighed deeply. "...Maka... I love you. Too. I-I actually wanted to let you know... But... Y-you see, I've hurt you, and that's---"
A laugh. Soul blinked, watching Maka made giggles. "...You idiot." She mumbled, before hugging him tightly, clinging to his clothes.
"You could've told me ! I wouldn't have left, you idiot !"
Soul stood still in surprise, but... Was able to hug her back anyways. "...I-I'm sorry... I---"
"Next time, if you want to say something to me, do it, okay ?" He can feel his sweatshirt getting wet... Was she crying ?
"Maka ? O-oy, are you---"
"You meanbag ! I missed you so much !"
Then sobs. Soul made a sigh, and gently patted her back. Girls. He never really understood them.
"...I'm sorry." He mumbled, before pulling her away from him, and making her look up at him with her teary green eyes. Then, he made a smile, wiping her tears away.
"...But it's really good to have you back." He mumbled, before chuckling, and placing a deep kiss on her lips. Maka wanted to reply. But... Well, the kiss. It was one of the perfect things to ever exist ! So she just made a smile, and returned it, before pulling away with a laugh.
"Don't leave again, okay...? Not without telling me, at least."
Maka grinned.
"...It depends."
